Study in half-light

Description:

Study in half-light: some faces feel likea a whole story, without saying a word.

In my eyes this portrait carries that quiet history.

Camera: Canon EOS 2000D — Lens: Jupiter-9 85mm (85mm, vintage Soviet glass)

Stepping inside Hagia Sophia feels like standing at the crossroads of empires, faiths, and centuries of history. Beneath its monumental dome, golden light dances across ancient mosaics and calligraphy, blending Byzantine grandeur with Ottoman elegance.

A place where architecture becomes emotion, and time seems to pause in reverence. ✨

Rannoch Moor as a place of wonder, one of the last really wild places in Scotland. Imagine a triangular area, stood on its apex, about 10 miles across its base and about 10 miles from top to bottom. Imagine that this 50 square mile inverted triangle is a roughly level plateau that sits at an altitude of a little over 1000ft. Imagine that its surface is dotted with innumerable lochs, lochans, peat bogs, and streams; that it is surrounded by mountains that rise to over 3000ft to the south-east and the west and to over 2000ft in the north. And, finally, imagine that this area is crossed by a railway line, running a little inside the south-east side of the triangle, and a single road, running a little inside the south-west side of the triangle. Congratulations: you've just invented Rannoch Moor.

Most people first see Rannoch Moor when driving north from Bridge of Orchy. Near Achallader the main road and the railway line diverge and the road makes a sweeping climb up to the Rannoch Moor plateau. What you find there can be a glory of heather and lochan surrounded by distant mountains. Or it can be a grey cloud-shrouded landscape through which you catch occasional glimpses of an other-worldly landscape. If Achallader marks the southern apex of Rannoch Moor's triangle, then the other two are equally distinctive. In the north-east lies Rannoch Station and the end of the public road in from Pitlochry, 40 miles to the east.

A selective-color and tonal-blend study built to let the climber’s shadow rise as a second presence—quietly shaping the moment more than the climber himself.

EN In the darkness, a presence emerges.

Masked, it becomes a symbol.

Around it, figures gather as if drawn by an invisible force. Their outstretched hands do not seek to possess or restrain; they seem to invoke, to transmit, to awaken.

Light rises from the center of the circle like an ancient flame.

Is it a ritual? A transformation? A revelation?

Perhaps all of these at once.

Faces vanish beneath hoods and masks, giving way to something more universal: the energy of the collective, the power of belief, and humanity's enduring fascination with mysteries beyond explanation.

Suspended somewhere between theatre, dance, and imagination, each figure becomes a reflection of a hidden part of ourselves.

For behind every mask lies a truth, and within every shadow sleeps a light waiting to be born.

EN The gaze takes hold before anything else.

It settles in,

calm on the surface,

yet carrying something

that refuses to be ignored.

Light shapes the face,

carving shadows,

but the eyes remain untouched,

present, precise, unavoidable.

Everything converges here,

along that invisible line

where attention can no longer escape.

A father and his two boys share a moment in the family barn that's about to be torn down. This barn has been in their family for over 40 years! They have made so many memories together for now three generations to remember and enjoy. I was honored to be able to create these portraits for them as they realized that they were going to miss this old, rustic barn. What an amazing family.

He knelt not as a coward, but as a soul burdened by questions no life could answer. Jack Skellington, the master of fright, faced Death not to bargain — but to understand. What lies beyond the screams, beyond the bones, beyond the endless Halloween? And in that stillness, as the scythe shimmered in silence, even Death seemed to listen.

EN Her gaze lingers, carrying a silence that no longer needs words.

The pose gently encloses her face, as if protecting something fragile within.

Light brushes past and fades, leaving behind a quiet melancholy, an emotion held back, almost whispered.

Spring in Tashkent carries the scent of renewal and sunlight. In the heart of Navruz Park, amidst the festive bustle of the holiday, the light itself chooses where to set the accents. This shot is a quiet ode to the Tashkent sun, which feels especially brilliant and sharp during these celebration days.

A dramatic architectural photograph showcasing the magnificent façade of Manchester's iconic Refuge Building, captured from a low angle that emphasizes its imposing Victorian grandeur. The ornate red brick and terracotta detailing is beautifully highlighted against the moody, storm-laden sky, with the building's elaborate carved stonework, classical columns, and decorative friezes creating a stunning display of 19th-century craftsmanship. The "REFUGE" lettering is prominently displayed, identifying this historic landmark that once housed the Refuge Assurance Company. The dramatic lighting and atmospheric clouds add a sense of monumentality to this architectural masterpiece that dominates Manchester's Oxford Street skyline.

A combination of rain clouds and intermintent sun made for dramatic skies over the sandstone cliff formations in the Sedona region. A painters dream lasting only moments as the light would then disappear as it played hide and seek. Photographers had to be patient and awake to the moment which is just how I like it to be. The one formation does resemble a penis well some of them anyway. And other high towers are given fancy and funny names as well. Its a land of wonder, awe, wow as well as a dream come true for hikers, nature lovers, and artists of every kind.

As I was posting this and remembering my sessions and interactions with these ladies, it occurred to me that since I began shooting in this genre I have met so many cool people! Allow me to gush a bit over these two: As both photographers and models, Keira and Jacs are two extremely talented people, who do some amazing stuff, and they are very easy to work with.

OK, Love Fest is over! lol
