The remote isolated hill farm at Lingy Hill, Harwood, Upper Teesdale. A hole in the cloud cover lights it up together with meadows coloured pale from recent haymaking. More cutting is in progress to the right of the black and white barns.
Silhouettes.
Earlier this summer I was lucky enough to be taken over to a small island in a gravel pits complex, where Little Egrets and Grey Herons had successfully hatched young. The LE chicks had all fledged and were 'branching', wing flapping and having a few noisy spats with each other.
The small hide I occupied was built on scaffolding overlooking the main nesting area. It was a dream come true to be sitting at the same height as the birds. I had a clear view of these two adorable heron chicks as they waited patiently for food - BUT.........
unfortunately, the light was against me making images, being either ominously black or flaring into a harsh brightness that hurt the eyes. Then suddenly, from nowhere, there was a massive storm with torrential rain and savage gusts of wind. The trees I was up amongst shed foliage, twigs and deadwood. More scarily, the hide did some serious swaying and creaking that had me questioning its construction.
I considered the predicament I was in = up a ladder, up a tree, in a hide, on a scaffold (swaying dodgily), in a storm, flying tree debris, on an island, in a huge body of water, stranded until the boat returned, completely alone.
All a bit 'Swallows & Amazons' on the one hand but extremely stress inducing on the other.
Fortunately, at the point of blind panic (mine), this adult heron flew onto the nest. Recklessly...(or sensibly), I decided to try making images - at least I would be occupied! This is the best I managed, a 'poor passable' but it will always serve to remind me of yet another predicament wildlife photography has got me into!

Really stacked the filters on this one, out of like 100 frames I had about a dozen with “frozen” boats that I could choose from. This was my favorite frame at the end of the session, with a lot more contrast than the other shots, as the clouds were farther rolled out to the ocean.

I wanted to capture that precious moment when the fading day's low light sublimely enhances the Cime des Torches in all its splendor. By choosing this clean framing, my intention was to highlight the power and solitude of this majestic summit rising proudly above the Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves domain. The contrast between the pristine snow illuminated by the sun's last rays and the purplish sky creates the almost mystical atmosphere I was seeking. I patiently waited for this precise moment when the mountain seems to gently ignite while the rest of the landscape begins to darken, revealing all the subtleties of the relief and the different textures of the snow. Through this image, I wanted to share that special emotion one feels when facing the silent grandeur of the Alps, that suspended moment when nature reminds us of its timeless beauty and quiet strength.
Between shadow and light, something breaks… and something begins again....Soy Evaristo, el rey de la baraja, me resucito....

Sometimes,
we feel the pull
a quiet ache to speak
with ourselves.
We reach inward,
fingers trembling with wonder,
trying to slip our hands
into the folds of our own soul,
to touch something true,
to find the voice beneath the noise.
But guess what
it’s only an attempt,
a whisper against the storm.
To truly reach that place,
we must walk a path
not paved in ease,
but in questions.
Not straight,
but spiraled,
winding through shadows and soft light.
It is a journey
not loud, but vast.
Not always kind,
but sometimes zen.
Where silence becomes a guide,
and stillness,
a key
As the intensity fades, the landscape settles into a softer palette.

A striking editorial portrait bathed in hard directional light, casting dramatic shadows across the subject's face and décolleté. The warm golden tones of her skin and terracotta lace top contrast sharply against the deep black background, while her blue eyes hold the camera with quiet intensity. A Roman numeral tattoo — XXV — marks her collarbone, adding a personal detail to an otherwise timeless composition.
Deep within the abandoned Liat mines, I captured this moment of solitary contemplation as a fellow explorer stood silhouetted against the mineral-painted walls of this forgotten gallery. The rich palette of blues, oranges, and earth tones that time and oxidation have created transforms this industrial space into an unexpected underground cathedral.
My intention was to convey the profound sense of connection between past and present that these mines evoke. The lone figure represents all the explorers, photographers, and curious souls who venture into these depths, drawn by the same fascination that once drove miners to carve these passages through solid rock. The vibrant mineral deposits tell their own story - decades of chemical processes creating art from industry.
This image embodies the spirit of modern exploration photography - finding beauty and meaning in abandoned places that whisper stories of human endeavor. Standing in these galleries, surrounded by the geological artwork that emerged from mining's aftermath, I'm reminded that sometimes the most powerful legacies are the unintended ones. These tunnels, once purely functional, have become galleries where industrial heritage and natural artistry converge in ways their creators never imagined.

Jökulsárlón (lit. "Glacier Lagoon") is the largest glacier lagoon or lake in Iceland. Situated in south eastern Iceland, at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier branching from the Vatnajökull, between Skaftafell National Park and Höfn, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the Icelandic glaciers.
I guess every and each landscape photographer is dreaming of capturing Jökulsárlón - Glacier Lagoon at least once in his/hers life and of course we all dream about perfect conditions... and I call myself very lucky to have experienced several stunning sunsets over this amazing place !!
Timelapse movies had become my new way of capturing my travels besides regular photography.

In South Africa’s Kruger National Park, we followed him at a respectful distance as he moved through the thorny bush — slow, silent, almost weightless. From behind the branches, his eyes held that unmistakable mix of wild focus and exhaustion. He looked thin, weak… and when he came a little closer, the truth was hard to ignore: deep wounds, likely from a fight with another leopard or predator, and a body that seemed to be running out of time.
I was there with my safari company, GoThombi, and moments like this are why we do what we do: not to chase “the perfect shot”, but to witness nature as it is — beautiful, brutal, and profoundly human in the way it can hit your chest without warning.
That look through the bushes is one I’ll carry forever.

Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is one of Icelands most spectacular sights, located about 60 km east of Skaftafell National Park and almost 400 km from Reykjavik. Jokulsarlon borders south and east part Iceland, at the roots of Europe's largest glacier Vatnajokull. Breidamerkurjokull, an outlet glacier of the great glacier Vatnajokull, crumbles down the steep mountainside of the glacier and big icebergs break off into the lagoon where they float around before melting. This is a very popular sightseeing attraction, widely regarded as the most picturesque scenery in all of south Iceland. At the time when the first settlers arrived in Iceland around 900 AD, the edge of the glacier tongue of Breidamerkurjokull, is thought to have been about 20 km further north than it is now. Many commercials and several major international motion pictures have been filmed at this exotic location, including James Bond's “Die Another Day” and “Batman Begins”.
We were very lucky with the amazing weather and light during whole trip in Iceland. This was particularly very magical moment which I have enhanced with longer exposure time.

A very brief burst of sunshine provides backlighting for the mist lifting off Crossthwaite Common and creating an eerie effect around Kirkcarrion.
Mid April. A storm system passed through this area yesterday and it really was beautiful. I would have loved to have gone out early in the morning to take pictures as the snow managed to coat the north-east side of every tree - spectacular! Alas, it was not to be, but I did capture this eerie light illuminating the blowing snow on these drifts later on in the day.
Best on black. Please click 'L'.
I cannot say exactly when it happened.
Perhaps long before I became aware of it.
The city was only beginning to wake up.
Novara still carried that suspended atmosphere of early morning, when the streets seem to belong more to silence than to people. I was walking without truly searching for anything, letting my eyes choose the direction, as I always do.
Then I looked up.
Between the motionless buildings of the city, a fracture had opened in the sky.
The clouds looked torn from within, as if something had carved the light with an invisible blade. Birds circled around that opening in restless movements, as though they already knew something was about to cross through it.
And not long after, he appeared.
I saw him sitting between stone and shadow, as if he had always belonged there.
Yet something about him did not belong to that place, or perhaps to that time.
A figure suspended between different eras.
Chains, worn fabrics, metal, symbols, a sword held in his hands like the last fragment of a distant memory. He did not look like a man in costume. He looked like someone who had survived another world.
For a brief moment, I had the absurd feeling that the fracture in the sky had allowed something through.
Not a warrior in the ancient sense of the word, but a wandering presence, lost between dimensions that no longer align.
And yet there was no violence in his eyes.
Only a strange calmness, almost melancholic. The kind carried by those who have crossed too much time to still belong to a single place.
The city kept moving around him without noticing.
People passed by. Stones remained still. Facades watched in silence.
But I saw him.
And that is the moment when photography stops being an aesthetic search.
It becomes testimony.
Because certain apparitions last only a few moments.
Then the sky closes again.
The light changes.
And the world returns to pretending that nothing ever happened.
Non saprei dire con precisione in quale istante sia successo.
Forse molto prima che me ne accorgessi.

A patch of very strong autumn sunshine lights up a barn in the distance in this view looking towards Keld, Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
I captured this iconic bronze sculpture on the jetty of Palavas-les-Flots, where a group of fishermen point towards the open sea. The black and white treatment emphasizes the dramatic poses of the figures and the textures of the bronze against the clean lines of the lighthouse and railings. I love how the small silhouettes of people sitting on either side give a perfect sense of scale to this powerful monument. A timeless scene from this little Mediterranean coastal town just minutes from Montpellier.
She looked straight through the dark.
The feathers crossed the frame like smoke.
The red burned deep.
For a moment, the makeup felt older than the room, older than the stage, older than us.
