I wondered around yesterday evening looking for something interesting to photograph... Stumbled across this field full of milkweed and a few indian paintbrush blooms and believe it or not the light cooperated with me!!!! I thought it turned out kinda nice. Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great week!........This is one of those shots that really does look better when viewed large!
A lone barn and tree stand against the rolling hills, as dark clouds gather and a curtain of rain sweeps across the valley. In this fleeting moment, light and shadow collide — a landscape caught between calm and the full breath of the storm.
A monochrome portrait suspended between glow and shadow — the subject leaning into a window’s soft mercy while the darker room pulls at the edges. The light traces the cheekbone like a memory trying to return, while the curtain breathes its own quiet story. This is a moment of stillness that feels like a threshold: half confession, half invocation. A study in contrast, vulnerability, and the quiet power of being seen without armor.
I.
The window keeps its vigil, patient as an old friend,
letting the morning spill its truth across my face.
Shadow gathers behind me like a history I’ve outgrown,
yet still I lean toward the light, unafraid of its naming.
II.
Some rooms hold their breath when you enter,
as if waiting for the version of you that never arrived.
But here, the silence feels earned,
a soft throne carved from the ache of becoming.
III.
I tilt my head toward the brightness,
letting it map the terrain of my unspoken thoughts.
Every highlight a confession,
every shadow a promise I haven’t broken yet.
IV.
The curtain whispers its thin voiced blessing,
a veil between what I was and what I’m willing to claim.
Even the dust seems to rise in reverence,
catching the light like tiny, wandering saints.
V.
There is a tenderness in leaning,
in letting the world hold you without resistance.
The window frame becomes a quiet altar,
and I, a pilgrim of my own unfolding.
VI.
The dark behind me is not an enemy,
only the echo of rooms I’ve already survived.
It clings out of habit, not hunger,
and I no longer mistake its weight for destiny.
VII.
Light sketches me with deliberate hands,
as if sculpting a future I haven’t dared to imagine.
I feel the shape of myself returning,
slow, steady, sovereign.
VIII.
So I stay here, between glow and shadow,
letting both claim their rightful place.
For this is the portrait of a life in transition—
a face learning to remember its own radiance.
Fish Lake is about 15 kilometres southwest of, and 300 metres higher than, Whitehorse in southern Yukon. Downtown Whitehorse is, itself, approximately 640 m (2,100 ft) above sea level. Fish Lake has an average water depth of about 16 meters with a maximum depth of about 37 metres. At only 11 kms long, it is a relatively small Lake. All of that said, Fish Lake is big on beauty, especially when the sky gets as dramatic as it was today. An approaching rain storm, along with lots of spring colour made for a spectacular scene. Note all of the yellow flowers (Marsh ragwort (Senecio congestus)) growing along its margins.
This photo was taken using the Canon EOS R and RF 24-105mm f/4.0 L. The finished image was processed from raw in Adobe Lightroom.

Ortaköy (literally Middle Village in Turkish) is a neighbourhood, formerly a small village, within the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, located in the middle of the European bank of the Bosphorus. Ortaköy is a cosmopolitan area, with communities of Turks, Greeks, Armenians and Jews. The neighbourhood hosts many different religious (Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox, and other Christian) structures. It is also a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, with its art galleries, night clubs, cafés, bars, and restaurants.
Ortaköy's most famous landmark is the Büyük Mecidiye Camii (Grand Imperial Mosque of Sultan Abdülmecid), usually called simply the Ortaköy Camii (Ortaköy Mosque), almost in the water on the Bosphorus European shore. It was originally built in the 18th century. Later, in the 19th century, the current mosque, ordered by Sultan Abdülmecid and designed by architects (father and son) Garabet Amira Balyan and Nigoğayos Balyan in Neo-Baroque style, was edificed between 1854 and 1856. The Neo-Baroque style Ortaköy Mosque is a beautifully ornate structure, right on the jetty of Ortaköy, bordering the waters of the Bosphorus, and thus highly visible from the passing boats.

captured at the riem arcaden in munich, this shot encapsulates the interplay between architecture and human movement. the striking geometry of the glass bridge, combined with the silhouettes of the figures, creates a scene that feels both structured and fleeting. reflections in the glass and the sharp contrasts of light and shadow add layers of depth, making the viewer pause to consider the unseen stories of those crossing paths. it’s a moment that embodies the rhythm of city life—where every movement is framed within the urban canvas.

There are few more enchanting places than the boardwalk along the citadel in Quebec City. There are few buildings that I have ever seen with the charm of the Chateau Frontenac. It is known as the most photographed hotel in the world...and hopefully you can see why here. We were blessed with wonderful light after a thunderstorm that made for a magical scene.

This photo holds the moment when the lines begin to move, not just across your skin, but into your spirit. They mesmerize, like whispers of a pattern you’ve known. It’s as if the light is sending a message to your future self, a quiet reminder to align, to be present, to flow with the rhythm of life. In these shadows and stripes, there’s order, there’s chaos, and there’s you, somewhere between, becoming whole.
she holds the cigarette like a thought not yet spoken — suspended, unfinished. the smoke curls into the dusk with the grace of something that remembers how to vanish. it’s not about rebellion. it’s about time slowing down just enough to breathe in stillness and exhale a whisper.

Wrapped in layers of fabric and time, this enigmatic figure carries the weight of untold stories. His gaze, hidden yet piercing, speaks of resilience, survival, and a life woven with mystery. Every texture, every thread, and every shadow tells a tale—one that invites the viewer to look closer and wonder.
(Over the next two weeks, I'll be sharing a series of street shots, featuring both portraits and street scenes, from my past visits to the Philippines where I immersed myself in street photography.)

Sinister lighting conditions on the remains of the now derelict High Stonygill Farm, also marked on a 1964 Ordnance Survey map as Stony Gill High House, near Middleton in Teesdale.
The lights spilled softly through the room,
turning darkness into bloom.
Across her skin the shadows played,
like living patterns gently made.
No paint was needed on her face,
the light itself became the trace.
Lines and curves in silver streams,
painting her softly like a dream.
She moved beneath the glowing rays,
wrapped in shadows’ quiet maze.
Sensual, still, yet full of fire,
a body shaped by light’s desire.
And in that room of black and white,
the shadows learned to dance with light.
Until the model, calm and slow,
became the art the darkness chose.
A silent meditation on memory, transmission and human fragility.
Beneath the elegance of the staircase, the sculpture appears suspended between strength and sorrow, as if carrying the invisible burden of generations.

beneath the heavy folds of crimson fabric, the light filters in like a muted fire. it burns against the wall, painting it in soft, fleeting hues, while the shadows linger below, stretching across the desk. the camera rests in the dark, quiet and forgotten, waiting for its moment to capture the world outside this glowing barrier. there’s a stillness here—a kind of pause between the closing of curtains and the opening of stories untold. the air feels dense with warmth, the kind that speaks of solitude and secrets. it’s not just a curtain; it’s a threshold, holding back the world as the light leaks through.

A study in light, shadow, and structure — this monochrome portrait captures a mannequin’s face and shoulders as if sculpted from marble. The sharp side light highlights the contours of the cheekbones and lips, while the rest gently fades into darkness. The image evokes a sense of quiet introspection, stillness, and timeless elegance. There’s an almost classical quality to it — a modern nod to ancient statues and the tradition of chiaroscuro in Renaissance art.
This photograph explores the boundary between the inanimate and the human, between realism and abstraction. Despite the mannequin’s lifeless material, the lighting and composition bring out an expressive, almost sentient presence.
