I wanted a diffuser for my flash, and I was feeling crafty. So, I built one. It's made of cardboard, nice white paper, gaffers tape, duct tape and glue, and it took me about 3 hours to design and build.
For the back, I used the good stuff: gaffer's tape. This is what duck tape looks upon with envy. It's got real fabric, and the glue doesn't dry out like on the crappy sliver stuff. I folded the bouncer into position when I put this tape on, then used my fingernail to press the tape into the seams when it was flat. I then covered the entire back in gaffers tape. After I taped it, I went around the outside with a black sharpie, `cause I'm a wanker.

Canon 430EXII on stand camera left, 33inch shoot through umbrella, 1/4 power
All light sources shot through typing paper as that is all I have at the moment.
One 20W desklamp at left, a Canon 270EX ii Speedlite GN27 at right, one 13W CFL pointed at ceiling.
I guess this explains why I had to do long exposures (20-30 seconds).
Need more POWER! R R R!

This photo accompanies Figure 47.—Iron concentration with a diffuse boundary. [Field Indicators of Hydric Soils in the United States].
Inset: An iron concentration with a diffuse boundary exhibited by bright colors in the center of the concentration and a lighter color away from the center. The descriptive term "diffuse" is used to describe redoximorphic features that grade gradually from one color to another. The color grade is commonly 2 mm or more wide.
Soil Profile: This soil qualifies for indicator A11.—Depleted Below Dark Surface and S5.—Sandy Redox.
Note: The term "dark surface" is used with many indicators. Each indicator should be reviewed for a specific definition. Color requirements for a mollic or umbric epipedon most often does not meet the specific requirements of a "dark surface" indicator. These diagnostic surface layers used with Soil Taxonomy require a moist color with value or 3 or less and chroma of 3 or less.
"Dark surface" as used with the field indicators commonly requires a value of 3 or less and a chroma of 1 or less (or in some indicators 2 or less with increasing redox features).
This soil is in the Osier soil series (Typic Psammaquents). The Osier series consists of very deep, poorly drained, rapidly permeable soils formed in sandy alluvium.
Landscape: Osier soils are on flood plains (wooded area in photo background) or low stream terraces (photo foreground) of coastal plain river valley systems. They formed in recent sandy alluvium. They are subject to frequent or occasional flooding for brief to very long periods. They are classified as Typic Psammaquents. Most areas of Osier soil are in forest. The vegetation consists primarily of sweetgum, blackgum, water oak, red maple, swamp holly, bay, slash pine, and longleaf pine. The understory vegetation is mostly briars, vine, canes, myrtle, and gallberry.

Using Fstoppers diffuser on the key light. The reason for the need for the massive minus correction is of course the dark background, that will confuse the TTL matrix metering. Even the Fill Flash will contribute to lowering the output from the key light flash, provided that also this flash delivers a preflash for measuring - which I believe it does.
NiTEC’s diffused nickel plating process is the highest standard for corrosion resistance via the plating process. This method of nickel plating is so resistant to corrosion that it is suitable for marine environments. Mild steel plated using the diffused nickel plating process can be given a 30 year sub-sea guarantee.
First shot with my latest homemade flash reflector/diffuser. It reflects the onboard flash so that it lights up right in front of the lens as needed for these shots, and diffuses the light to cut down glare.
An amazing and weird foggy morning on my way to work the other day. I could've spent hours shooting the sun this way, but I could only afford to spend just a few minutes......definitely worth being late to work!
Trying to learn lighting basics but shooting anything that is transparent or clear glass is, the, most challenging. You need to get right background, highlights, edges of glass etc. Trying to learn from Strobist blog and plenty of other videos from Youtube.
For above shoot, used white paper behind & at base plus on camera right and left as well for reflections. Used Stofen Omni bounce diffuser on SB-600. Flash is held above bottle just outside frame and beam targeted behind on white paper. Although used custom (preset) whitebalance on D80, somehow image came out with bluish tint so need to find something else which is more pure white. I am definitely looking for acrylic sheet now....

Heading toward South Buffalo and saw this fog rolling in off Lake Erie and Bathing the City in this great fog. The buildings were ghosts that appeared and disappeared. The lake was warmed and the air was cold and the fog gelled into a great diffusive mass. I had to stop and capture even if a few pictures. I try to imagine City when it was still a swamp, Native American villages or its earliest days as a City. A weather event like this would have been spectacular (maybe not if you are piloting a ship ). Would have been very pretty though. Primarily the old Rand Building (former radio building) was particularly pretty phasing in and out of the fog. From South Buffalo, near the Buffalo River and Cazenovia Creek you could look back and see see the fog dissolving the city in a big white cloud - it was clear down there. Very cool.
