The clouds eventually lifted late morning around Govetts Leap, Bridal-veil Falls & Pulpit Rock nr Blackheath & our lodge. A few batches added to the set at different times an using a mix of cameras but mostly Canon 5DII with lenses Canon 17mm TSE, Carl Zeiss 35mm f2 and Canon IS 70-300. Some Leica DLux4 mixed in as well as some 3D images (one side only!). Minor raw balancing and some Topaz treatment.

Sitting at the top on the left (see photo note) are local youths. Those kids are not much smarter than the dogs that followed them. The boys went across the brink and allowed the dogs to follow them. One of the dogs slipped and fell over the 100 foot waterfall. After the incident, those kids acted as nothing happened and did nothing to prevent the remaining dogs from crossing over. Fortunately, no other dogs fell. The one that fell over survived but didn't seem to be in good shape.
Format is the term for how a book was imposed on the press, i.e., how many leaves were printed on each sheet of paper. The type would be set up in such a way that once the sheet was printed on both sides, the sheet could be folded, allowing the pages to line up in the correct order when bound. The symbol for the simplest format, the "folio", is 2°. Each sheet in a folio is imposed to consist of 2 leaves (4 pages).

This is a picture I have to give credit for. I was looking through the "24 Hours of Flickr" photo pool when I came across this lovely little composition of matchsticks by Nadiobolis. For some reason (possibly my recent poem about time ...) it made me think of clocks, and given what time it happened to be, this is the image that came out.

The main priest of the festival is tied with the pole and the pole is rotated by the devotees.
During it's preening session, the Pardalote did some stretches and provided a very different look to what you normally see.

visiting a castle in the summer i thought i try something different than just your usual "sight-seeing-photo"
i like it.
I had a different idea for this years family picture. Since this is the first year I'm in control, I decided on a different approach. instead of the traditional everybody in the same picture, I thought of doing individual shots, then making huge 24x36 prints of each, then hanging them all side by side in the living room. I might go B&W with them, not sure about that yet. I also took a traditional style picture too for good measure ... lol. First project of the New Year, kinda stoked!!! .... Happy New Year!!! ... Cooper's Hawk is a medium-sized hawk native to North America, found from Canada across the United States south to Mexico. As with many birds of prey, the male is smaller than the female and birds found east of the Mississippi River tend to be larger on average than the birds to the west.
It's a member of the goshawk genus Accipiter. The bird was named after naturalist William Cooper, one of the founders of the New York Lyceum of Natural History (later the New York Academy of Sciences) in New York. Other common names include Big Blue Darter, Chicken Hawk, Hen Hawk, Mexican Hawk, Quail Hawk, Striker and Swift Hawk.
The breeding range of the Cooper's Hawk extends from southern Canada to northern Mexico. They are generally distributed more to the South than the other North American Accipiters. Birds from most of the Canadian and northern-U.S.-range migrate in winter, and some Cooper's Hawks winter as far south as Panama. The Cooper's Hawk prefers to nest in wooded areas adjacent to wide open fields that provide hunting opportunities along the edges.
Cooper's Hawks capture prey from cover or while flying quickly through dense vegetation, relying almost totally on surprise. Most prey are mid-sized birds, with typical prey including American Robins, jays, woodpeckers, European Starlings, and doves. Cooper's Hawks also eat small mammals, especially rodents such as chipmunks and tree squirrels. Other possibilities are lizards, frogs, snakes, and large insects. They are increasingly seen hunting small songbirds in backyards with feeders and birdbaths. They will perch in trees overlooking the feeders, then swoop down and scatter the birds in order to capture one in flight.

National Moth Night - Balls Wood - Hertford - 11/06/16
Our fouth trip of the year saw eleven keen mother's descend on Ball's Wood for our effort for National Moth Night.
The target was to be Hawk-moths of which we saw very few, in fact just one species which was Poplar Hawk-moth, 4 specimens were observed.
When we all arrived the weather did not look very promising and rain put a slight dampener on the night ahead, the only saving grace was that it was cloudy, still warm at 20 degrees and still...maybe we would do ok despite the rain?
Lots of lights were set-up and I myself ran four traps with different bulbs in to try and tempt different species to be attracted to them.
We covered a few of the rides and made sure everything was water-proofed to avoid any accidents.
As the rain continued into the night I was confident that we would do well, famous last words I know but with the ambient temperature not expected to drop below 14 degrees it would be perfect if the rain stopped, and it did! At about 11pm the rain ceased and the moths seemed to be spurred on by this and more were arriving to the traps.
We stuck it right out until the bitter end and as the time was approaching 3am we were still going through the traps!
There were many superb moths found in all of the traps and several uncommon species that just aren't found in your average garden. Species such as Poplar Lutestring, Great Oak Beauty, Cream Wave, Grey Arches and Gold Swift to name but a few of the Macro's.
And then there were the Micro's...there were quite a few! And I nearly ran out of pots for them all.
One species in particular Choristoneura hebenstreitella, a very large Tortrix reminiscent of a bigger variety of Pandemis cerasana I don't recall seeing before, there were several to my lights.
Another good moth confirmed today was Epinotia tedella, only my second example, my first one was recorded at Roughdown Common in July 2013.
Other Micro's of note included a stunning Spatalistis bifasciana and plenty of the pretty Tortrix moth Ptycholoma lecheana, one example was so brightly coloured with yellow, it looked like a piece of shining gold in the trap.
All in all 152 species was pretty good considering the amount of rain we endured before it got dark leaving the vegetation soaking.

Home to 23 different ethnic / linguistics populations, São Gabriel da Cachoeira is a geographically complex municipality located in the State of Amazonas in the North Region of Brazil and has reported among the highest incidence of malaria cases in the country. In 2018, a malaria outbreak was declared as cases reached more than 15,000. Through strong collaboration with various partners such as the Army and integration of efforts into the Primary Health Care system, key malaria interventions such as early diagnosis and treatment, vector control, and real time case mapping have been effectively carried out resulting to an approximate decrease of 50% in cases in 2019. This malaria champion demonstrates that the appropriate implementation of current malaria tools and interventions, leveraging on key partnerships and optimizing the reach of Primary Health can successfully reverse the increasing incidence of the disease in complex environments and strongly position communities towards subsequently eliminating malaria.
