Before anything is said, I have to give credit for this photo to my mother. I simply did some post-processing to help match the mood. I will forever be so severely jealous of this shot. I absolutely adore it.

Be it for reasons of religious fervour or something of a more superstitious nature these shrines are important in the culture of people

My grandfather has gone into nursing care, so the process of sorting through and rehoming all his possessions has begun. In doing this my aunt discovered a lock of my grandmother's hair folded in a 100 lire note. It turns out Papa took it with him when he fought in Europe in WWII, carrying it with him through multiple battles in Italy and North Africa. He has kept it in his dresser drawer for almost 70 years, including the 20 years since Nanny died. None of us knew of its existence until now.
This was my favourite picture I took at Woofstock. The teacup poodle is being held so gingerly. In such a chaotic enviroment the tiny dog knew Mom would take care of her. That's the bond I love so much:)

The October Devotion of the Society of Mary started with a Solemn Pontifical Mass in St Agnes and St Pancras Church, Toxteth Park, celebrated by Bishop Ladds, and sung to Mozart's Spatzenmesse. After lunch, a decade of the rosary was said, led by the parish priest of St Clare's, Father Prescott. We then processed with a statue of Our Lady through the streets to St Clare's, for a sermon by Father Beresford Skelton. After processing back to St Agnes, we had Exposition & Benediction, followed by tea and cake. Heaven on earth!
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. ~ unknown.
Dedicated to my boy, 2005 - 2013. My heart is broken, until we meet again.
Umayyad mosque is considered one of the holy shrines for Shiite Muslims (mostly Iranian) as they believed the grandson of Muhammad was buried in the mosque, whom they held highly.
Are Syrian religious? I am not very certain as a 10-day trip can't give us such deep comprehension. I would say the younger ones probably a little less, and they normally cover themselves with head scarf only. However, we also bumped into very modern Syrians -- pictures later.
