An Ndebele-inspired piece: designed in Corel Draw and created and produced by me in vinyl on aluminium composite panel.
Made the vector design in Inkscape. Insulation foam sheets are super cheap and easier to work with than I realized.
MOVING IMAGES
Thursday, April 28 until Saturday, May 28, 2011
Atelier Open, Keizersgracht 429, Amsterdam
Opening on Thursday, April 28 at 20:00
Maartje Jaquet (1963) makes short videos, photos, paintings, poetry.
She graduated in 1999 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.
Her latest project was "Urban Animals", that was to be seen at Selexyz Scheltema bookstore in Amsterdam and right now (April 2011) at Gallery “Le Poulailler" in Wannehain, France, near Lille.
In Gallery ‘Atelier Open’ Maartje Jaquet will exhibit new work. She made a series of almost abstract moving images (films). Among others, the view from the car window along the same stretch of highway. In summer, winter and early spring. Flying trees, dancing branches, creeping images of green foliage, dripping gray rain. She felt like transforming these moving pictures into series of actual paintings. On widescreen wooden panels, 19.5 x 33.5 cms each. Altogether the paintings as a series give an impression of movement, as if you are watching a film.
The exhibition is an installation of movies , film stills and paintings.

Inspired by Cupcake's design. I had tried to design a colour changed poppy several years ago, but the result was ugly and thick. This one works much better.
A minor revision to my own brand logo.

This fabric, on display at IMMA, (designed for Brown Thomas in 1953) is part of the exhibition, Patrick Scott: Image Space Light, which brings together the most comprehensive representation of this remarkable artist’s 75 year long career. Scott had his first exhibition in 1941 with the White Stag Group. The exhibition brings together more than 100 pieces that illustrate the breadth and longevity of his career as an architect, designer and artist. The exhibition at IMMA concentrates on Scott’s early works from the 1940s to the early 70s while VISUAL displays works from the 1960s to the present. Patrick Scott began a full-time artistic career in 1960, after first training as an architect, eventually becoming a partner at the renowned architecture firm, Scott Tallon Walker (STW). During the course of his career he also worked as a textile designer for Brown Thomas in Dublin, Tabard Frères et Soeurs, Aubusson, France, and with the village weavers of Oaxaca, Mexico; as a graphic designer for Coras Iompair Éireann; and as a carpet designer for Kilkenny Design Workshops.

While at Penn State I got the wonderful opportunity to design this postcard. Being a Dad of three girls, I thought deeply about this design. Although my girls were only pre-schoolers at the time, I considered how would they feel if they were being bullied at school and did not want to tell me. (this design along with a suite of accompanying designs was recently awarded with an Inhouse award from Graphic Design USA see the award here ( the website based on the postcard I designed ). Thank you Herbert....
Remnants of my previous life as a kitchen designer :)
(This is a shot of the top corner of a stove alcove and shelf - a bit abstract I know! lol)

Design wall made by using a staple gun to cover an artists' canvass
with wadding and then white flannelet. I can 'stick' fabric onto the
flannelet just by smoothing it on with my hand. I can also pin
addtional items on as needed.
