Definitely one of my favourite finds of the holiday. Very rare now, and even when new probably struggled against the domestic competition?
The pedestal falls and the guiding light of the nation slips over the edge and into the darkness..
for the purge.
Enjoy!

For the Definitely Dreaming theme week 49 of only 3 colours. Which of these wigs would you choose?? At the Victoria Market with a small group of Flickr Friends Melbourne. Get well soon Friends who weren't able to come today.
Taking in a Wintry Landscape at the Lake Agnes Teahouse. The original image I captured with my D800E Nikon SLR camera was a place in Banff National Park that I’d wanted to hike to see for many a year. All the hikes in the Lake Louise area that I’d been to the Plain of the Six Glaciers and teahouse, which is definitely amazing! That trip though, a friend and I hiked in the snow up to the Lake Agnes Teahouse and experienced a magical wintry but turning into Spring wonderland. That image can be found online here on Flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/markcstevens/23767483344/in/album-7...).
For the digital painting, this was done as a sketch, and then I added colors later in pencil, using Adobe Fresco app on my iPad Pro. I started out sketching how I wanted to lay this out, using the original image as a "scaffolding" to help me along. I considered doing the live brush oil painting brush in the Adobe Fresco app, but something drew me to try out pencils and seeing what I might be able to do with that, especially as the sketching was done with a pencil brush. I practiced many different styles and strokes in order to get that brush like look but not have it look like I was using a pencil.
A little right of center In the foreground of the digital painting, you'll find that stick figure image of me "hiking" with my Cubbies hat, truly loving my time exploring Alberta and Canada once again!

Fairy Pools, Glenbrittle, Isle of Skye, Scotland. This place became one of my favorite places I ever visited and definitely one of my favorite places in whole Scotland. There is something magical about the clear waters which flow through the Black Cuillin Mountains. The light was very harsh (Mid day) yet the beauty of this place allows some beautiful photographs to be made. That said I feel deeply sorry I did not hang around until the sunset when the light would have been truly special litting those mountains...

Definitely Dreaming - Week 30 Strange
I took this earlier in the week, just in case I couldn't find anything really strange on the beach ... I didn't!
Whilst it's not a strange sight to me, it might be to others. It's a Martello Tower, built in the early 1800's, to look out for Napoleon invading. There are still several of them along the coast, most like this one are just ruins, but a few have been converted into homes. This one only houses pigeons.
Definitely Dreaming 'something borrowed' theme.

I borrowed this little elephant from my friend Rachael for the Definitely Dreaming 'something borrowed' theme. For the background I used an image that I took at the zoo last year, it's a glass screen (part of a door) with diffused light coming through.
Elephants are known for their incredible capacity to remember, and for their paramount intelligence among other species of the animal kingdom. And did you know? – they are one of the only mammals apart from humans that cry tears in response to emotional triggers. Separated from her young, a mother elephant has been known to cry tears of sorrow; freed from captivity or reunited with his herd, an elephant has been known to shed tears of joy and relief. We humans share a connection with elephants in this way.
Over many centuries and in lots of cultures, the Elephant has symbolised good luck, as well as strength, wealth and prosperity. In Asian culture, they place elephant charms (or little statuettes) in the home, with their trunks up, near the door to attract good fortune into the home. For Hindus, the elephant is a form of Ganesha who is the God of luck, wealth and protection. In popular culture a lucky elephant is thought to bring you good fortune and wealth.

A stitch of 6 horizontal pics. Camera handheld. Time 8am, descending from the summit to head home.
i walked up in the dark setting of from rowardennan at 9pm. moonrise was 11.30pm. made the summit ridge for 1am (my pack was heavy & i kept stopping to get the tripod/camera out for photos). the moon had gone by this point and at one point on the ridge the path crosses a steep slope, the snow was hard and i couldn't see properly. i didn't fancy turning on my headtorch in case anyone lower done saw it and phoned the MRT. so i stayed put on the ridge between the south and middle tops & bivvied as intended. it was fantastic.

Montenegro is a country in Eastern Europe bordering Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and the Adriatic Sea. It used to be a part of Yugoslavia. The capital is Podgorica. The name Montenegro is Italian and means Black mountain. Montenegro was an independent princedom between 1878 and 1910 and an independent kingdom until 1918. That year Montenegro became part of Yugoslavia. In 2003 Yugoslavia was transformed into the new country of Serbia and Montenegro, but this fell apart in 2006 when both countries went their separate ways. Montenegro is therefore the youngest country in Europe. Montenegro is not a member of the European Union, but it is a member of NATO. Despite the fact that Montenegro is not yet an EU Member State, people do pay with the euro. Montenegro may be small, but this beautiful nation has a huge array of natural and man-made wonders. Once overlooked in favor of more famous Mediterranean countries, Montenegro is quickly gaining a reputation as a great place to travel. It's easy to see why. The mountainous hinterland is home to deep gorges, flowing rivers, glacial lakes and old-growth forests, popular for adventure activities. Petrovac is located on the coast between Budva and Bar, where the old mountain road from Podgorica reaches the coast. It has a 600 m long sandy beach and it is a popular tourist destination. Petrovac is seen as a somewhat "calmer" resort. The pier and the Kastio Castle, which served as a storehouse for wine and olive oil in the past, and now is a historical monument with historic cannon guns. Also a beautiful terrace that offers you a great view of the sunsets.
Montenegro’s most iconic destination is the tiny islet of Sveti Stefan. Graceful 15th-century stone cottages set on a pink sand beach. Sveti Stefan was an island but is now connected to the mainland. Initially, the island with its fortress had 12 families. In the 1800s, a village was established on the island with a population of about 400 people located at the coastal area around Budva. The coastal area around Budva, called the Budva riviera, is the center of Montenegrin tourism, known for its well-preserved medieval walled city, sandy beaches and diverse nightlife. Budva is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast. Petrovac is located on the coast between Budva and Bar, where the old mountain road, with slopes of the hills surrounding, from Podgorica reaches the coast. Kastio Castle is a very nice sightseeing and photo spot in Petrovac. Not really a fortress, but rather a small fortification that would protect the Venetians when freighting goods in the boats. You can see almost all if Petrovac from here. Not crowded at all. Definitely recommend for the view and atmosphere and you can jump into blue sea from there as well.

"Alps on Ice"
There has been very little time processing and uploading pictures the latest days due to very hectic activity.
Here's one I shot on March 7th. It was cloudy in most parts of Scandinavia, but managed to find an opening at this epic location stanind on crystal clear ice. The mountains in the background are "Siedde" raging 1km up into the sky, and the other top to the right is "Piggtinden" about the same height. About full moon lightning up the surroundings from the right.
This sequence will definitely be featuring in my new aurora video.

For some of us locals and old-timers, this shall forever be known as the Sears Tower. Kids and foreigners know it as the (shudder) Willis Tower
Sadly, there's not much left of the great retail empire other than a website and a handful of stores.

PD: Gràcies pels vostres comentaris. Només afegeixo q el desenfoc del vaixell el vaig fer expressament perquè sino semblava massa un "collage". He de millorar la tècnica!!
Well, that's what I told myself. I think my resolve may have been a little weak on this occasion. Maybe next time. :)
Definitely check this out Large...........I uploaded a 1200 pixel version so you can see all the crisp detail.
I normally don't post 2 images in one week, but I was getting comments saying that they would have like to have seen my previous image with all the ice cracks and patterns as an abstract. So here it is. This image is a five image focus blend for depth of field. I can only imagine this printed as a 30x40 or larger with all the detail here. Hope you guys enjoy this image. Happy shooting this weekend, looks like the conditions may be good around here in the SW. Peace!

happy easter!
thanks for another explore everyone! :D
This bison and its compadres were "feasting" if you can say that about dried grasses that in warmer times form the "floating" islands on Floating Island Lake. Lake is a significant overstatement, it's definitely more pond-sized, and so shallow it's like it was frozen solid under the beast's feet, making for safe passage on this very cold day in Yellowstone National Park
A lone greater yellowlegs was trolling the shallows at North Shields Ponds Natural Area, Ft. Collins, Colorado.
This was definitely THE shot (at least in daylight that is) of my two days out chasing the famous CPKC Holiday Train for my first time. After photographing them crossing South Bay we headed here to wait at this beautiful and peaceful spot along Lower Road.
They are northbound crossing the little causeway over Charter Marsh just north of the hamlet of Wright. They are about to cross from Washington into Essex County and enter the town of Ticonderoga at about MP 97.9 on CPKC's Canadian Subdivision which traces its history back to 1875. Across the cold blue water of Lake Champlain is the state of Vermont and 25 miles to the east rise the 3000+ foot peaks of the southern Green Mountains.
Leading the way is CP 2249 an EMD GP20C-ECO built in 2013. This is a model unique to the CP (they own 130 of them) which are prevalent system wide in yard and local operations.
To learn more about CPKC's Holiday Train and see some of this year's performers as well as learn about its mission raising money and awareness to combat food insecurity check out the company's site dedicated to this continent wide event:

A hollowed out F40 carbody decorated in a veterans memorial paint scheme leads a northbound Pacific Surfliner along the coast of the Pacific Ocean in San Clemente, California while a P42DC provides all of the muscle on the rear. The state park ranger in the orange Kubota may have kicked me off of the bluff via megaphone, and I definitely may have hid in the bushes and shot the next several trains from the same spot, maybe...
it definitely looks like its snowing over here in ash-y southern california. if you step outside, it looks like a sunset and little ash flakes are falling all over the place. i woke up in the middle of the night freaked out because my room smelt like smoke. i think i have a sensitive nose because in order for me to get back to sleep, i had to cover my mouth in my sheets like a gas mask. haha.
the sheet around me is my filter for air. hehe
i feel terrible for all the families who have lost their home. i was worried i'd be evacuated, but thankfully it went east. sorry eastern side!
