This is an amazingly restored McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II fighter bomber on the flight deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier museum which is located in San Diego bay. No longer in active service with the U.S. military, the Phantom was an all weather, two seat, twin engined aircraft used extensively during the Vietnam war. This aircraft is located in the landing area of the flight deck. A volunteer docent who was a former F-4 pilot with over 600 carrier landings was available to explain how Navy aircraft are recovered aboard.

A recent trip down to Weston-super-Mare (just for a change!).
This is beside the famous Grand Pier, which dates back to 1904, and in it's current guise with the pavilion on the end from 1932.
This shot actually had a big signpost right through the middle of it, and wouldn't have worked, so I took it anyway and gave myself lots of cloning work to do.
I don't think it shows too much.
Update:
Little did I know this would be the last time I would photograph this great pier.
Destroyed by fire 28/7/08.

Deck U houses the Warp Core. Next are two massive storage/conversion units for hydrogen, to convert it into usable deuterium. Next is an air recycling room, with a hatch to the sub-deck below. This is followed by two communications arrays, and finally the single turbolift station.

I was able to revisited the decks at the end of the summer. The leaves have just started to drop so the stairs are still wrapped in the green of the trees and vines. The bright hot sun of our September is still able to reach down and kiss different areas. This angle is looking across the deck of the gazebo at the very end of the stairs.

These things are called "Deck Prisms." They were inserted into the decks of ships to allow sunlight to shine through to the lower deck levels. The prism dispersed the light. (I'm not sure if these are authentic)
