Bicknell, IN The devastation continues.

This shot is for a scavenger hunt on the topic decay.

This was taken as part of the HooHaa52 Challenge. This week's topic was Rust/Decay.

I knew exactly what I wanted to shoot for this week, but it had a limited window of opportunity and I was unable to get the shot. Several alternatives came to mind, but I suddenly got an idea that fit the decay aspect. So I went outside and took some shots of the decaying mounds of snow.

I had a tough time picking a photo as there were two I really liked. This one was the winner.

Every once in a while I get the urge to look back through some of my older shots to see if there are any that I may have skimmed over or possibly just to give a different take on the processing.

This photo is a good example of that.

We saw this wonderful barn along side the road in Northern Arkansas back in February when we drove down to visit our friends. Originally I didn't like this shot as the sky was a bit murky and the contrast wasn't great. I love the barn so much, though, that I decided to give it another shot and I was quite happy with the result this time around.

Frankfort, Alabama

Frankfort is about 10 miles north of Belgreen. In the 1840's, it was the county seat of Franklin County but now is a very rural community.

The mould and decay is quite evident in some of the corridors now of the abandoned asylum buildings. Since the removal of the welsh slates from the roof the rain has poured into the buildings causing substanial damage to ceilings etc. The wooden floors are begining to buckle and warp as a result of water and much of the wall paper etc has now gained a healthy growth of mould etc.

We were making our way across the island to one of the beautiful beaches that Curacao has to offer when I saw this wall along the deserted street, we stopped the car to take a closer look. Each section of the wall contained a mural - different portraits framed in a circle. It's not the decrepit walls that symbolized the decay to me, but the manner with which each face was crossed off. Made me wonder about the nature of the conflict that took place and the story of people behind it.

Decay for the Scavenger Hunt

I am fascinated by how beautiful the death and decay of a flower can be. Every time I watch it happen I feel a message of peace and acceptance being delivered straight to my soul.

This photo is currently the desktop image on my second monitor (my laptop screen). I can't stop staring at it. Since the first trip I made to the museum, I haven't forgotten the lion.

It took me a long time to figure out why.

I work on the web. Nothing I create will be around for over two thousand years. I'm lucky if the things I work on live for a year, maybe two. The person who carved this lion lived over two thousand years ago, and the work is still "alive" and being enjoyed.
