Abandoned and open to the elements, this place is stripped of anything, Empty floors are overgrown with moss, and the walls tagged and scarred, the beams charred with the damage of long ago fires. Empty rooms drip with water. Even the rats have moved out of a partially flooded basement. And yet, amongst the decay and the empty shadowy rooms and staircases are beautiful colours and textures. I liked this place a lot.

I took these for the Hertfordshire monthly comp "Decay", not sure which one to use.

I used HDR with +/- 1 EV in Photomatix to bring out some extra detail then converted it to mono in CS3 and used some dodge and burn.

sorry for the unsharpness but it was quite diffucult to hold it steady in the air xD ;) :)

Urban decay in the hill district of Pittsburgh. Take a wrong turn down a street and the city life turns into a dump. The remnants of a building that used to stand is left imprinted on the one next to the site.

The building was a grain mill for the early convict settlement on Norfolk Island. The longboat was used to ferry supplies from ships offshore as there are no harbours on the Island. This method of transport is still used to this day with a similar design of lighters.

There is one corner of my neighborhood that always seems to accumulate old pumpkins.

If this pumpkin is from Halloween, it has been decaying for several months.

The piece of wood leaning at an angle looks like the decayed remains of a utility or telegraph pole. To the right of it an attached cable can be seen inside trees that have literally grown around it. Tribes Hill, New York.

The pretty pattern in this decaying fallen leaf caught my eye when I was out rummaging through the leaf litter looking for springtails. Taken in a field near my house.

Urban Decay Foundation - Illusion. The lightest shade.

This still life caught my eye and whilst I was framing it with my camera I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. An elderly gentleman was looking at me in amazement and when I had moved away I caught him looking closely at what I had just photographed. He looked puzzled!

Taken on the Shropshire Community meet in Ellesmere.

We met up to go to the regatta but ended up having a bit of an adventure around an old decaying cottage which is obviously much more interesting altogether.

This is a shot of the back room where the plaster had crumbled partly off the wall.

False friendship, like the ivy, decays and ruins the walls it embraces; but true friendship gives new life and animation to the object it supports.
