The above inscription was on the lower bridge of Greenhill built in 1772.When the bridge was replaced in 1861 by the present bridge, the inscription stone was saved and built into the north east wall of the building behind this stone. Over time the inscription has eroded and been covered with harling.
The mason James Armour was the father of Jean Armour and fatherinlaw of Robert Burns.

Very fine 1694 date stone with the date and initials set between barley-twist columns and surmounted by a broken pediment with a central cherub. Looks incongruous on what appears to be a small cottage. The coursing of the front stone wall suggests that that an earlier date, this and the building to the right as far as the scaffolding, formed a single structure. It is possible that the date stone relates to this earlier building which at a later date dropped in status and was converted into labourers cottages. Photographed 27 Nov 2009

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I was so excited when I spotted this pink and striped dress in the "Storage Sweeties Lot" of 2024. Admittedly the presence of the vintage Dawn case was one of the reasons Colleen and I splurged on the pricey doll lot. It's not everyday we encounter Dawn things at the flea market. I had seen this in my internet travels in the past, when researching Topper Dawn stuff. I even found the tiny boots in the bin, as well as the mannequin and hanger. The rest of the items were long gone. None of the stuff from this bin was anywhere near complete. This was my very first Dawn mannequin. It was repackaged with oodles of her fashion packs. I only have one, but I borrowed it for several of my photos. This dress held up really well to the test of time. It's still vibrant and it didn't need any repairs.
