At Christmas Island, a small community in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, it’s all about the postmark. The Christmas Island post office is now famous for bringing a festive feel to holiday cards around the world with wreath postmarks that say “Christmas Island.”
Postmistress Hughena MacKinnon has been delivering holiday cheer with the stamp since 1994. Ms. MacKinnon forwards holiday letters around the world after postmarking them with the famous holiday stamp.
“They add a little extra holiday flair,” said Canada Post spokeswoman Anick Losier.
“The stamp has been altered for 2010,” said Ms. MacKinnon. “They’ve added some extra decoration to the wreath [on the stamp].”
She said that during the summer months the post office receives around 100 letters a day, yet during the holiday season that number escalates to around 1,000.
Mail is sent through the office — with postage enclosed — to be stamped and forwarded, by the postmistress, around the world. To have your holiday cards postmarked, send your addressed cards with proper postage in a larger envelope, and address to:

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Busy B.B. has one of my personal favorite outfits ever made for an O.M.G. Her country pinup theme is quirky, unique, and versatile! Don't get me wrong, I love the punky, edgier doll designs. But something about Busy B.B.'s denim and red getup always caught my eye. These pieces are all impeccably made, which is no surprise given MGA's recent reputation. Just an aside, hats off to MGA for actually TRYING to put out quality products when most other doll brands have seemingly given up (and have just resolved to put out dollar store quality items in lieu of making an effort). This denim jumpsuit reminds me of something a pinup mechanic would wear out in the country. Maybe I'm thinking of some America's Next Top Model episode I used to watch as a teenager or something...I don't know. Anyways, Busy B.B.'s little underwear set actually fits under this tight jumpsuit quite well. Some of my other O.M.G.s cannot wear all their layers. The little paisley undie set is darling and could dual as some sort of swimsuit. I love the pops of red this outfit has...fabulous for my Spicy Babe doll (aka Cola-ette), who will probably borrow pieces of it in the future. The work boots were the perfect footwear to put with this ensemble. They are practical, yet somehow chic! My only complaint is the darn surprise packaging element. Despite how careful I was, I ALMOST threw away the necklace. I had washed the four dollies the night I opened them (to get all the gross hair product out of it). I was dressing them the next morning, when I realized that there was supposed to be a necklace for Busy B.B. when I was using someone's photos of their doll fully dressed for reference. I had to find the necklace in the tissue paper (that luckily I set aside for recycling or crafting purchases). Then I had to undress the doll and retake this photograph to include the necklace. I HATE how easy it is to accidentally throw something out you've missed when opening these dolls. At least I caught my mistake in time, and Busy B.B. is complete (poor Miss Royale cannot say the same).

PERSONAL FUN FACT: My dad's friend Steve found this Cooking Center, our Mini Mart, and our third Camp Barbie at a yard sale. He grabbed all three items, knowing that my sister and I are huge doll collectors. This was sometime in 2011 or 2012. When we saw him a few months later, he gave us the gifts, which totally floored us! We greatly appreciated his kindness--words really can't express how grateful we are, even to this day. The Cooking Center and the Mini Mart were still fully sealed in their boxes. They smelled very moldy though, even after I washed everything. Of course, they weren't as rank as Camp Barbie. She had mold all over her legs and body...and was quite stinky for a few years (even after many baths). I know for a fact that Colleen and I would have adored this stove when we were younger because making our dolls cook was one of our favorite pastimes! It was one of those simple separately sold kitchen appliances, that were so common in the 90s. I had a separately sold stove/oven as a kid. It was a very different mold and had starkly different accessories. I like that this one is unlike any other stoves I have in my collection. It's compact, but has a ton of unique features. I took a separate photo of it converted, so you can really appreciate how versatile it is!
Date unknown, but judging from the road vehicles believed to be late 1960s.
Yarmouth Beach was the eastern terminus of the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway and was closed, along with most of the rest of this system, in 1959. The old railway terminus was converted into a coach and car park, as seen here, but the station building remained in place for many years afterwards.
