Sitting on the side of a supercell at sunset in Nebraska! What I was about to witness was going to be epic! True Thunderstorm Eye Candy! Tons of ambient cloud to cloud lightning! Erupting over the spacious Nebraska Skyline..
Front row tickets to the show and this was going to be a double creature feature!

The dark early morning skies begrudgingly gave up some color and light just prior to the sunrise. Thatcher Island's north lighthouse keeping an eye on things.
Loblolly Cove, Rockport, MA
A dramatic wide-angle view of heavy thunderstorm clouds building up early in the evening after a beautiful, hot day in Drenthe, Netherlands. The massive, textured cloud formations loom over the flat green meadows and distant tree lines, capturing the broeierige (stifling) and tense atmosphere just moments before the summer storm officially breaks.

NWS had the severe weather events for that day were to be about 200 miles to the east of south central Nebraska. Though we still had a risk of severe weather, but with the 100 Temps and lots of moisture to work with... it was bound to happen.
We had to pull east due to the hail core was right behind us. Didn't take long for it to catch up either. Now past Guide Rock interchange on Hwy 136 East we stopped again to reassess the storms movement and our location. The storm was starting to weaken and loose its hook, but it was still worth time to get these snaps!
This was simply the best structured cell that I have caught up this season for tornadic activity. This cell did not produce a tornado, but it had rotation, hail, and torrential rain. Eye Candy for the Storm Chaser in mind....

My fascination with Mont Aiguille goes back to the moment I first laid eyes on the mountain ten years ago. It felt like finding Shangri-La in the middle of Europe. I have been drawn back for a second and third visit and I am still trying to produce a photo that reflects how I felt seeing the mountain for the first time.
Weather rapidly changed on my trip on 281 to Nuevo Progresso and I found myself driving from a perfectly sunny and pleasant area to a dark patch of rain. Fortunately after less than 10 minutes, the clouds dissappeared and it was sunny again.
Texas weather... go figure.

-The Houtribdijk is a flood defense in the Netherlands. The dam was built between 1963 and 1976, and separates the IJsselmeer from the Markermeer.

I had a few hours left before I had to be at work. Sun was setting and I made my choice to follow this storm cell north... or should I say catch up to this storm again. It had significantly gained speed & strength, and I was no longer in good position for storm pics.
I had to back track to Lexington, then north on Hwy 283. Stopping briefly, capture these incredible mammatus clouds forming in front of the storm. I was under the base of this developing cell and it was producing some incredible Nebraska Skyscapes!

Sharrow Point is roughly half-way between Rame Head and Portwrinkle in Whitsand Bay in the far south-east of Cornwall. The land around Sharrow Point is owned by the National Trust. At low tide in Whitsand Bay beautiful sandy beaches are revealed, but at high tide these are completely covered.
Climbing the two-percent ramp out Leyden, Colorado, under stormy skies is Union Pacific’s westbound MDVRO manifest freight on the afternoon of October 29, 1999. Six locomotives power the train, led by EMD SD45T-2 No. 4795. Trailing is a nice assortment of power that includes SD40-2, SD60M, SD45T-2 (SP), AC6000CW and SD9043MAC models—only one GE! On the far right, still shadowed by the dark clouds, is downtown Denver, its tallest buildings silhouetted against the distant horizon.
I noted a great shot of the moon whilst having dinner, by the time I got everything set up on the verandah it set into clouds. I took this one and I think it actually turned out OK. I tried to get more shots but the moon was absolutely racing to that horizon and they blurred with the long shutter speed.

Now about 30 miles north on Hwy 21 north of Lexington Nebraska. I seriously really wanted to stop several times to watch this storm develop, it had some incredible structure. But I knew not to. I would be rewarded for my patience....
This storm had significantly developed south of my location and NWS also just reissued severe thunderstorm warnings on these cells
3rd and final storm of my chase that day. Some nice gems in this set of captures! Enjoy!

I'm gonna have to be honest here... This one made me pee a little. Shook the truck and everything in it. So the least I can say is this dramatic storm clouds formation was looming over this rural landscape. Brilliant lightning illuminates the scene, contrasting with the dark sky.

I stopped at Fort Dunree this morning at first light in the hope for some sun. Not much luck but I took the steep steps down the old pier which I have found out is going to be a new pier soon
Stratus clouds quickly turned to nimbostratus clouds and an eventful evening thunder storm began continuing into the late night hours.
See what happened 6 minutes later if the following photo.
The ancient woods stood in a heavy, suffocating silence, as if the very air were made of leaden clouds. Under the thick canopy of emerald leaves, the shadows stretched long and hungry, threatening to swallow the meadow in an eternal twilight. But then, as if the heavens themselves had finally shattered, violent beams of amber light pierced through the foliage, stabbing the damp earth with a divine and terrifying brilliance. It was a momentary truce between the storm and the sun, a gilded wound in the heart of the forest that revealed the hidden spirits of the moss and the cold, unyielding stones.
Each ray felt like a ghostly finger reaching down to touch the memories of the soil, illuminating secrets that were meant to remain buried in the gloom. The contrast between the bruised, stormy sky and the sudden warmth on the grass created a gothic tension, a beautiful yet unsettling reminder that nature's most majestic displays are often born from the clash of light and darkness. In this fleeting instant, the meadow was no longer a simple clearing, but a stage for an epic cosmic drama where the day refused to surrender to the coming night.

Last few weeks of chasing was extremely fun... though its good to be close to home. It's of course where I'm most familiar with the terrain and most of all the atmosphere. This would be one of my beginning phases of Lightning photography for 2018.
Lightning is the main reason why I started storm chasing. EVERY opportunity I can get, and folks the formula has to be perfect...its not easy capture Epic lighting shots. As many as you see, I have about 30 that you don't. Shooting lightning over the past 30 years... I have my own way to capture it. A learning experience that is still in session.

How menacing is this sky over Port Philip Bay in Melbourne this morning? These intrepid folk were determined to keep fishing no matter what Mother Nature threw at them. The photographer wasn’t so brave - he packed up and went home shortly after taking this photo.
