a very severe storm that cracked over the gold coast a few years back..

Today’s post is another view of the broken jetty at Loch Gelly at sunset.

The shot is a little less HDR than my usual fare with only two frames capturing foreground and sky so that means that the sun is a little burned out and losing detail whereas the shadows are a little deeper than I would normally like. However, I was taken by the depth of colour in these frames which was too dark for the lowest exposure and too bright in the highest. So I chose to use only the middle two and concentrate on pulling out the nice tones in the water and the lower clouds.

I’m still trying to figure out how to capture long exposure but still see some movement in the turbines. Perhaps I’ll get that worked out for the next visit.

A place where you can witness both the sunshine and moonlight ...

This place never fails to impress me .. 2018 what a year.. travelling 4 countries in a span of 6 months and capturing amazing moments.

In the late afternoon of last Wednesday in the fields of the Wittlich Valley, also known for its fertile soils, as here for potato cultivation. Anyone wondering about the color of the soil is so reddish here, I suspect it is from the red sandstone that occurs in the region.

" ... The tired earth , under the snow,

sleeps the silence of a heavy sleep.

Winter collects its labor

of a thousand centuries,

from an ancient dawn …. "

" .... La terra stanca, sotto la neve,

dorme il silenzio di un sonno greve.

L'inverno raccoglie la sua fatica

di mille secoli, da un'alba antica … "

MANY THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! :)

A common sight in March here in the Ozarks....a barn set against the backdrop of dark clouds and a possible tornado.

We stayed in a wonderful little hostel called Hostal Capac in the lovely city of Ayacucho. In Peru you often see people making use of the roof areas of their houses for various things, washing, playing, relaxing, storing... it makes perfect sense! Our little hostel was on a hill and we had this huge 270 degree view over the city from the roof. And how wonderful it was to sit up there as the storm thundered by. This is a particularly special memory for me. I was up there for hours, smelling the rain as it came rolling over the hills.

As the escaped Larry Lamb and his gang of ne’er-do-well crims gather to plan their next heist, the heavens darken in ominous portent. As you can see, since my last ‘breakout’ photo their numbers have swollen due to strategic lightening strikes they have executed to free like minded felons.

You see the little guy front centre - the one with the mean, too close together squinting eyes staring brazenly at me? That’s kingpin and mastermind Larry, Larry Lamb. He has a distinctive bleat, sounds just like Pacino in Scarface - he wasn’t a big guy either .

I know many of you find it hard to believe this dispicable, motley crew are a hardened bunch of criminals, so to prove it, I have set myself the dangerous task of trying to get a photo of them red handed right in the midst of a major felony heist - hopefully I can pull this (yet another) scoop off if they don’t get wise to me. No worry of them being apprehended, Larry’s always several steps ahead of the authorities, I often wonder how plod manages to dress himself in the morning……probably an app or something. Sigh.

The more closer I got the more darker and powerful the water current felt. My obsession with this waterfall dates back in 2015 when I first saw Skogafoss in an advert.

Can't get enough of this beautiful waterfall in Iceland. Taken at a dark time when the sun was almost gone and the light was absolutely not present, this is one of my favourite composition.

" ..... And the snow is falling, taking me away.

Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams,

Reflecting the sound of my heart; it's my taste of freedom.

Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams......

... I've escaped from reality, dancing in the snow...

....The world seemed so clear, like a wonderful diamond,

Can't imagine there's meaness. Can't imagine one lie ... "

Heading back to Denver from Rocky Mountain National Park, we encountered a fairly heavy snowfall. We didn't stay long enough to find out how much snow actually fell ; -) It was steady rainfall in the lower altitudes.

I increased in LR mainly the contrast, blacks and clarity which intensified the colors of the sunlit mountains.

It was cold (42 degrees, 5.6C), and windy( 30mph sustained winds), with a wind chill of 38 degrees (3.3C), dark and rainy.

But the brilliant orange, reds and yellows of the foliage kept our spirits warm.

My wife and I, and my Flickr friend Janet (jlst2i) enjoyed the blazing colors on Old Mission Peninsula, Traverse City, Michigan.
