The Luna Cube is a small hand held synth that uses light to make a large range of electronic noises.

started as a geometry experiment, but it looks fairly pretty.

Kubuswoningen, or cube houses, are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in The Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom in 1984. The houses in Rotterdam are located on Overblaak Street, and beside the Blaak Subway Station. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. There are 38 small cubes and two so called 'super-cubes', all attached to each other.

As residents are disturbed so often by curious passers-by, one owner decided to open a "show cube", which is furnished as a normal house, and is making a living out of offering tours to visitors.

The houses contain three floors:

ground floor entrance

first floor with living room and open kitchen

second floor with two bedrooms and bathroom

top floor which is sometimes used as a small garden

The walls and windows are angled at 54.7 degrees. The total area of the apartment is around 100 square meters, but around a quarter of the space is unusable because of the walls that are under the angled ceilings.

The cube now no longer exists in Bergen. Some miss it, some hated it, that is how it is with art. The leftmost guy is the artist BÃ¥rd Breivik overseeing the work. Is going to become wall art in the University Of Oslo.

[Wikipedia]

Putting up the cubes is a bit tricky. As the magnet is really strong, if you hold the cube with the backside up, the magnet will attract the screw and you have to disassemble the cube to undo that.

Note that I didn't use a magnet for the clock mechanism itself, as it would surely be affected by the magnetic field.

Done with austinbriab flowers!

Week 5 I got the sick and went home from the cube. You can tell I'm sick by the scrunched up brow. Within minutes of this photo I was wrapped in flannel and watching Bones. A mediocre show that I can stop watching.

Miraculously, I didn't get the ill two weeks ago when I was on the road with a very sick host and sneezing, hacking producer. This whole cold business is mysterious to me. For five days I was in close personal contact with two very sick co-workers and nothing, but two weeks later....BAM. Down for the count.

Mysterious, these infectious diseases.

P.S. Unsolicited cold advise flows fast and furious when you confess to anyone in an office that you're ill. Not mysterious, but an interesting response. Everyone wants to fix a sick person.

This old Pattercrisp candy tin from the late 1920s or early 1930s is just about 7"x7"x7". Great graphics. The picture of the child is repeated on the inside of the lid. Although this tin might have been sold to take home, it is just as likely to have been a container from which candy was dispensed from the store, considering it held 10lbs of candy.

Another one of those "pleased with"-photos. It is shot in the same spirit as this, though I definitely like this one better.

Picturing the world

last monday matthias joined our potsdam origami meeting. he had been infiected with cube tesselations during the meeting in salem. so naturally we had a topic to talk about. he mentioned that he would like to put into the tesselation some cubes of doubled size. them being doubly high creates a problem. but adding a "cube" of normal height and doubled side length works rather unproblematically. as is proven here.

in the mean time cube father ilan garibi also worked with double cubes. his result is spectacular and (naturally) a lot nicer than mine. he's found a very clever way of combining those double cubes.

Bell Ice Cube is the pavillion of the Vancouver 2010 sponsor Bell. It features live entertainment and multiple HDTV screens showing the games. The night I was there Canada was glued to their TV screens watching the Men's Hockey Game between Canada and Switzerland. Canada survived a scare and managed to win the shootout.

It's done, I solved the Rubik's cube.

Nissan car with its enthusiastic, "inspired by a bulldog wearing sunglasses" face and asymmetrical rear, at first glance the cube looks more like a punchline than a car. Saw this very different looking car in Putnam County, Carmel,NY.

The art that graced the walls of the Cube was intricate and vibrant.
