On a gloomy Melbourne day, this shard of aqua glass glows in the glare of the filtered sunlight.

When I showed this photo to my nephew, he said I should call it "cube-aquatic". So I did. There are cubes of glass which make up the whole tower, and it looks like water. Logical.

It may not be immediately obvious, but the large building to the left is also almost entirely glass, and reflects the building across the road as well as the sky.

This is an in-camera multiple-exposure, something I enjoy immensely but often forget in my rush of enthusiasm to shake and bake an ICM.

The Stuttgart City Library - we missed it on our day trip as it was closed that day. Had to take another round trip train ride from Munich just to see the inside of this building for myself. It was worth it!

Jeppe Hein: Changing Neon Sculpture

seen at Bucerius Art Forum

The brownish stains originate from the interference of the electronic shutter with the line frequency of the neon lights (I believe) - I like this extra effect :)

well, one of my rare color photos...

The Berlin Cube is a standalone office bloc in Washingtonplatz near Berlin Central Station and alongside the River Spree.

Clad entirely in glass the Berlin Cube measures 42.5 metres in all directions and the facade is covered in a triangulated relief pattern.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Overblaak, Kubuswoningen, Blaakse Bos (slightly cut)

The `Kubuswoningen` (Cube houses) aka the `Blaakse Bos` (Blaak forrest) have the phycical appearance of a set of cubes, flipped to one of their vertexes and placed on variable height pillars. It was designed by Dutch architect Piet Blom (1934-1999) who followed his structuralist agenda here, trying to create an integrated urban living space (`Living in an urban roof`' it was called) that both stimulates/facilitates the communal spirit of the dwellers of this urban forest and create a strong rhythmic architectural pattern in the process. In `A structuralist's embrace` here there’s more about Dutch structuralism.

The 7Artisans fisheye was utilized again here. The lensā€˜ album is here.

For an architecture shot like this, minimalist music is called for, but in this case let’s settle for the basic drumwork of the Cure’s Lol Tolhurst in A forest.

Stuttgart Library (Stadtbibliothek) interior. Decided to do this one square as it's know in the area as "The Cube". The library is actually a lot bigger than this photo would suggest as represented here is only the 4th through the 8th floors of the building.

Rubiks Cubes. Little miniature ones, each 1" across.

For Macro Mondays. This week's theme: puzzle. A bit of nostalgia here, who doesn't remember the cube craze.

Happy Macro Monday/ HMM

Cubes houses reflected

Reflecties van de kubuswoningen

I have checked with a search for the yellow cube houses on Flickr, and have come to the conclusion that this is a special one.

So many pictures of the yellow cube houses, and no reflections in the first pages. Time to make a change and look down to look up.

The weather was completely windstill , not a ripple on the water , no soothing breeze in my face. Later in the morning the wind was coming up a little bit, but not at this moment.

I know the location Oude Haven in Rotterdam well, so I know exactly where to take a picture to see the reflections of the cube houses. So i do admit I have an bit of an advantage here.

Cube houses (Dutch: kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam. Their architect Piet Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. The houses are located on Overblaak Street, right above the Blaak metro station. There are 38 small cubes and two so called 'super-cubes', all attached to each other.

Finally, some more colour in Toronto's new architecture. These playful balconies belong to the College condominium residences, designed by CORE Architects.

I didnt really want dark clouds in this picture, but I will pretend I did anyways. Here a view of the famous cube buildings in Rotterdam. A lost cloud rolled by when I was visiting this place on an otherwise sunny if cold day. Who wants to live here ?

the macromondays group's theme for today, 8/20, is multicolored and this is probably going to be my choice for posting because i loved the pastels, which i deepened/enhanced when post processing. maybe a little too subtle for many but i do like it a lot. also liked the holographic sequins (see the first comment box), which are probably a closer-in macro but today i am not dithering ~grin~

later, when i have sufficient light, i will post a picture of the whole bowl. (btb, this was a creative suggestion by my DD)

(btb2, the start-shaped ice cube is one and a half inches tall, so it and the dish are about 2 inches top to bottom, two and a half side to side)
