After leaving the scene of my previous shot, we arrived here in the official carpark for the sunrise at Uluru, ready to witness this amazing scene with hundreds of other early risers. It started out as quite a special event, with many people turning it into a nice outdoor breakfast. We were surrounded by some lovely Japanese tourists who had come off a tour coach, and they were enjoying a sushi breakfast. There was lots of happy chatter and talk, then suddenly the sun cast its first rays on the rock surface, and the entire crowd went utterly silent. For a minute, we were all in awe of what we were looking at, then some remembered their cameras and suddenly it was nothing but a clicking of shutters and a whirring of film motor drives. Being in the film days, I fired off a lot of shots to cover a lot of exposure settings. I think this would still have been around one or two seconds exposure time.

The colours were amazing. This slide scan is straight off the slide itself with no changes to saturation or brightness. It was a mesmerising and unforgettable sight.

Palm Grove, Queesland, Australia.

Every morning by the Murray River in Mannum brings a different sunrise and this one was full of mist and gentle colour. It was magical and peaceful to just sit there quietly and watch the first light appear, then watch as it went through a hundred changes.

Two fishing fleets riding out the storms in Albany, Western Australia - one being the actual fishing boats, and the other, this wonderful flock of Australian Pelicans (and silver gulls) sitting out the stormy weather as it passed though. This was taken from Emu Point in one of Albany's many and varied coastal harbours. Shortly after I took this, I returned to the car as it started to pour with rain once again and saw through the windscreen the pelicans all with bills wide open catching the raindrops! It was just too wet to get a shot of it, but fascinating to see.

A storm can be impressive not only when it's coming, but also while it's leaving. Its structure and the details will be appreciated from the stormlovers but also from naturelovers. Can you spot the mammatus? This shot was taken with a mod. dslr so there is a slight red/pink hue but it can capture excellently the deep red colors (when they are there) during sunset hour, so I tend to use it more often at that time.

I am afraid to have previously described my photo as shot at sunset. I took it in fact at dawn & could remember it later on.

Checking the photo data, it says in fact as taken in August the 18 2016 at 06.34 CET

There is absolutely no retouching nor post-processing of any kind in this photo.

Night storm with several CGs. This is a stack of 2 photos, one with a double CG and another with 4 CGs with temporal separation of 1' between the two shots. Relatively dense rain shaft is also visible.

Unfortunately, only 50-100 km away from me, to my NE, more than 320 mm (the 3/5 of the yearly rain of Athens) of rain fell in ~8 hours, creating floods and killing at least 8. The lightning frequency was every 5'' the most, with long periods of 1 strike per 1-2''. This frequency was going on the whole night due to a cut off low on the upper troposphere.

This is my favorite military aircraft. If you ever get a chance, at an air show probably, to see this monster perform a short-field takeoff and landing, you won't believe something this large can go from zero to airborne in 3500 ft. (1064 meters).

Thank you all so very much for your comments and faves, but most of all I thank you for just taking the time to look. I appreciate each and every one of you! Gracias. Merci. Danke. Obrigado. Grazie. Go raibh maith agat. Tapadh leat. Gratias tibi.

Sprites with halo (red disk over the sprites), on Nov. 21, 2023, over thunderstorms at the Ionian Sea. Halos occur due to the same mechanism responsible for sprites, appear higher than them, at 70–85 km, last for some ms, and look like faint red disks with a typical diameter of less than 100 km.

TLEs (like red sprites) are upper atmospheric electrical discharges and they appear, under specific circumstances, above thunderstorms (e.g. red sprites appear at altitudes of 40-90 km).

I've used a #Sigma 85 mm lens at f/1.4, for 1/25'' with 40 k iso.

Check our recent #paper about TLEs from Greek-based observers, here: doi.org/10.3390/environsciproc2023026009.
