What could be more Aussie than a platypus in a gum tree?
I was actually taking 3D images of this pond and surrounds which lie in the Tasmanian Arboretum near Devonport, when I was suddenly surprised by this lively little platypus! Not having anything with me resembling a zoom lens, I was stuck with the camera at hand which was the big 3D World medium format stereo film camera and its fixed 80mm lenses. So, it was a quick re-aim of the tripod mounted camera, a very quick manual refocus, and hope for the best. When a platypus pops to the surface, they usually don't hang around for long.
Any day with a platypus sighting is a good day!
Original colour slide was taken between 2007 and 2009 with a 3D World medium format stereo film camera using Fuji Provia 100F colour slide film. Scanned with a Canon R10 with RF24-240mm lens and Nisi close up attachment.
Day 333 - 365/2023 - A Never-Ending Journey

5 shots meshed in layers/Photoshop
Another favorite capture from the night on Nov. 10-11. A "wannabe" bolt from blue during the thunderstorms between E. Attica and Evia isl.
Notice, again, the corona discharge with its distinct blue/purple color at the edges of the bolt. These purple filaments/streamers are created due to high values of the electric field (high enough to ionize air molecules, mostly nitrogen).
The moon can be seen on the left side. Orion prevails on the top right side.
For this one, I've used a Sigma Art 20 mm lens, f/1.4 @ f/5.6 for 10'' with iso 500.

Bolt from the blue lightning, near Artemida, east of Athens, Greece, early morning of 03.07.2021. It was an amazing night with NLCs (recorded for the first time in GR), red sprites and a close TS with amazing BFBs. Sigma Art 85 mm, f/4, iso 800.

This is another big red sprite event over the thunderstorms south of Crete (on the east side of the Medicane on 28/10) as seen from S. Attica during the night of Oct. 28, 2021. Faint parent lightning flash at the bottom, behind a cloud layer, can be seen as well. I've used a Sigma 85 mm lens at f/1.4, for 1/4'' with 60k iso. Always plenty of angling going on at the end of Brighton Jetty on Adelaide's wonderful coastal area. The sunset put on a nice show for ten minutes and was ever changing in colour and intensity.
From the old Canon SX40 archives - my second ever digital camera.
Ref. DSCF6193 Fujifilm FinePix L50 ISO 200, no flash, no retouching because it was all there at disposal of the watcher.
Editing: gamma light adjustment to exclude black noise.

It RAINED for a couple of minutes this afternoon! First rain I’ve felt since early January. Barely got the pavement wet, but it was a nice change.
After one of those "red sky at night is a sailor's delight" sunsets tonight, it was only a matter of an hour or two later and we suddenly had this lightning storm. Not sure the sailors would be loving that! Lots of lightning and thunder but sadly not much of the badly needed rain for this dry part of the world. It even started a grassfire somewhere causing the smoke through the centre of the image. It was quite a show with the lightning flashing every 5 or 10 seconds. while I could, I just kept taking lots of pictures over the fence from the safety of our laundry (and through a slightly dirty window).
Clouds often form over the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. The mountain passes are at elevations around 10,000 feet above the foothills, where this was taken.
From the Big Trip 3D slide archives 2004.
I was going to wait for the camel train slowly making its way down Cable Beach in Broome in Western Australia for the ever popular camel train silhouette shot, but decided instead to go for this guy who had appeared from my angle to have hooked the sun on the end of the line. For the time we were in Broome, the sunsets were just wonderful every night.
I encountered the apparent horizon distortion on several sunset shots no matter where the horizon was placed in the frame. I am unsure if it is something to do with the film itself distorting through the camera being aimed at the sun, but it was definitely not the lens. I don't have software for correcting such things, but I still like the result.

The beautiful far hills are enveloped in a cloud of brown/green diesel smoke. The pollution is visible almost daily on cold winter days. There was a hydro electric project being researched and a wind tower, but not a peep about it in recent years.
As the thunderstorm was leaving (looking towards ENE here, with Mt. Imittos having an alt. of ~1 km), there were multiple pileus clouds, at least in 4 separate clouds here. Another thing that attracted my attention, was the contrail from the plane (a KLM flight, as a friend of mine informed me) avoiding the squall line. Athens, Greece, Nov. 26, 2021. This is a panorama of 5 shots.

We are partners in a dance
Back and forth with the ages
Yet we somehow move together
Drawing faith from each other's strengths
The atmosphere in this beautiful place can be so beguiling. It changes at twilight though, and has more of a wild edge. This is the main entrance to the church, with the 1,600 year old yew tree leaning towards the medieval building.

The north coast of Tasmania is usually fairly calm and a little sheltered from the worst of the prevailing winds, but now and then the conditions would bring some wild weather from the north and the swell would create some great conditions for the local surfers. This was taken at the mouth of the Mersey River at Devonport on just such a wild day.
The two other keen photographers and I were waiting patiently for some surfing action, as were the surfers themselves.
I did actually cause some frustration for the photographer who was crouching down. We never actually got into much conversation on the day but he did look keenly at my big 3D World stereo camera that was used here. At the time, I kept a Canon strap on it, and this poor guy went home and spent hours online scouring the internet for a Canon 3D camera! He let me know of his frustrations (in a good natured way) a week or so later when we once again met up at a similar location.
The 3D World camera is a rare beast which was produced by a small Chinese company and there would have been maybe just a few hundred examples around the world and only two that I know of in Australia.

A sunny day and the hay is finally being cut for baling. The constant rainy weather pattern has made it difficult since dryer conditions are needed for this process, but hopefully a window of opportunity, Rain or shine, the cattle need to be fed.
A cold and foggy view from the Big Hill lookout in Stawell. The town hall clock and the church steeple were among the few points rising above the fog. The distant clear line is the Western Highway which is the main highway linking Adelaide and Melbourne. It is perhaps sitting just a few metres above the surrounding land and also maybe clear from the continual flow of trucks disturbing and slightly warming the air. The obscured distant horizon would normally be the rugged outline of the Grampians ranges.
