The morning of day 3 was a nightmare. I arrived in Bryce at 10:00 am sharp on day 2 to have the best chances of acquiring a campsite. I then proceeded to scout the area with serious intent. I hiked the Peekaboo Loop Trail first since it was the furthest southwest. Then over to the Fairyland Trail and finally the Queens Garden Loop to the Navajo loop trail and out up "Wallstreet". That was all good and well until I returned to camp for an early dinner and started feeling the mileage. Once there, I crashed like Evil Knievel in my tent. Unfortunately I was so trashed by the time I returned to camp that when I set my alarm I hadn't noticed the battery was almost dead. I still had planned to shoot the Milky Way that night (See my prior post)and was now painfully aware of my over exuberance. Luckily there where people up and about which roused me just enough to look out of my tent and I saw this. Crap!!! I'm late for the sunset. I pulled myself together and managed to lug all my gear down the QGL and started shooting at 11:00pm. the MW was moving to the right and lowering in the sky, so by starting at the bottom and shooting as I ascended was the best option for the most possible compositions. I finished up at 1:30am. Trying to shoot sunsets coupled with night photography and then shooting sunrise is a grueling proposition, and I still had five more days and 7 parks to visit. I decided to sleep in and save myself for the coming evening's night shoot.
Little did I know, it was going to be quite the adventure, and a very long night. :)
Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my photos and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great week ahead everyone :)
With all of the nightscaping that I have been doing lately, my stream is looking a little dark, so I have decided to start posting some of my favorite day shots to help brighten it up.
Here's an early evening photo taken in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs Colorado. As I was waiting for the sun to go down, I watched the shadows stretch across the park and sunlight started to illuminate the top of the Tower of Babel formation and thought I would snap a few. :)

Shot late one night in Valley Of Fire National Park. It was during the month of May which is the prime time of year to be here to shoot the Milky Way (other than the over 100 degree temps during the day). Wayne Pinkston and I, Lit this using the LLL technique which was a light panel over on the right side and a mini lantern under the formation itself, all dimmed down to simulate moonlight. During his scouting Wayne ran into Priscilla Spencer another Flickr Photographer that was out shooting the night sky, So we joined forces and shot several locations during the course of the night.
For more information about the LLL technique you can visit lowlevellighting.org
For an example of the results of this technique can be seen here at Wayne Pinkston's awesome stream.

The Racetrack Playa — a barren lakebed in Death Valley National Park — is home to one of the world’s natural wonders: “sailing stones” that mysteriously meander across the dried mud, leaving tracks in their wake. Since the 1940s, these rocks have fueled wonder and speculation because no one had seen them in action — until now.
Recently, a team of U.S. scientists recorded the first observation of these boulders in motion, using GPS monitors and time-lapse photography. By meticulously tracking weather data, scientists also explained how these rocks slog across the playa. What was one of the world’s natural wonders now appears to be the perfect combination of rain, wind, ice and sun.
After leaving Valley of Fire, Wayne and I headed to Death Valley for some night photography out on the Playa and when we arrived there it was 114 degrees. We still had a long 3 hr dirt road drive ahead of us and we also wanted to stop off at Ubehebe Crater for a couple of photos. Most of my time here was spent traveling to the Racetrack Playa so I didn't get any time to shoot photography during the day, but what a blast it was to shoot on a dry lake bed under the stars at night. We spent about an hour looking for the famous Sailing Stones when we came across a couple other photographers that were on their way out and pointed us in the right direction. I can't wait to get back here, preferably during sub triple digit temps. :)

I have finally had some time to process some more of the photos from my 8 day trip with Wayne Pinkston. Here's a shot taken of the tufas at Mono Lake. Mono Lake is located north of the Long Valley Caldera, a 20-mile long depression that is the aftermath of a volcano that erupted 760,000 years ago. In a massive explosion the volcano sent huge volumes of earth and ash into the sky and buried the surrounding area in hundreds of feet of volcanic debris. As a result of the eruption, the land collapsed, creating a 200 square mile depression known today as the Long Valley Caldera. Mono Lake formed soon afterward.
The secret of the fanciful towers is more than banal. In the middle of 19 century, to satisfy the needs in water of Los Angeles they had to take water from the local rivers. As a result, the lake's level dramatically fell by 15 meters uncovered the calciferous-tuff figures from water. The program devoted to the safety of the unique lake the Mono Lake Committee was created in 1978. In 1994, the California State Water Resources Control Board reached a decision which mandated that the lake had to rise to a level of 6,392 feet above sea level. After this the lake's level began to rise and, probably, in future these idols will hide their secrets under the water column again.

Billie Eilish - No Time To Die - Non c'è tempo per morire
.
.
Non c'è tempo per morire
.
…eravamo una coppia
ma per te…
solo per mostrarsi
agli occhi degli altri.
Ero stupido ad amarti
credevo nella famiglia ma
per te era solo una farsa,
avrei dovuto capirlo,
avrei voluto sapere
quello che adesso conosco
quello che tutti sanno
e.... me ne sarei andato da solo.
La vita?,... è lontana dall’essere giusta
troppo angosce da sopportare
era troppo ovvio a tutti, io....
avevo gli occhi chiusi dalla fiducia
avevo gli occhi chiusi dal mio cuore.
Avrei dovuto comprendere
non sei mai stata al mio fianco,
eri la mia vita, ma continuavi
a ingannare il mondo intero: una,
due, tante volte, all’infinito.
Io mi fidavo. Adesso libero
da questo enorme peso
che tormentava il cuore
non sei più un mio problema.
Mai più vedrai il mio volto
non sentirai più la mia voce
non avrai mai il mio perdono,
nemmeno in punto dell'ultimo respiro,
lascio che tutto bruci alle mie spalle
non guarderò più indietro
che tu sia morte o paradiso
da quando ti ho visto lì
dove tu mi hai guardato.
Adesso?..,
che vi sia buio o luce...
non c’è più tempo per vivere
non c’è tempo per morire
non ci sarà tempo per…
tornare indietro.
Un’altra lezione l’ho imparata
e non avrai più nulla
dalla mia vita.
……………………..Luigi Mirto

No time to die
.
…we were a couple
but for you…
just to show off
in the eyes of others.
I was stupid to love you
I believed in family but
for you it was just a farce,
I should have known,
I wish I knew
what I know now
what everyone knows
and.... I would have gone alone.
Life?,... is far from being fair
too much anguish to bear
it was too obvious to everyone, I....
I had my eyes closed with trust
I had my eyes closed by my heart.
I should have understood
you've never been by my side
you were my life, but you continued
to deceive the whole world: one,
twice, many times, endlessly.
I trusted. Now free
from this enormous weight
that tormented the heart
you are no longer my problem.
You will never see my face again
you will no longer hear my voice
you will never have my forgiveness,
not even at the point of the last breath,
I let it all burn behind me
I will never look back
whether you are death or heaven
since I saw you there
where you looked at me.
Now?..,
whether it's dark or light...
there is no more time to live
there is no time to die
there will be no time to…
come back.
I learned another lesson
and you will have nothing more
from my life.

Koko Crater (Hawaiian: Kohelepelepe or Puʻu Mai) is an extinct tuff cone located on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu near Hawaiʻi Kai. It is a part of the Honolulu Volcanics, which were craters that formed as vents of the Koʻolau Volcano during its rejuvenation stage. During World War II, the U.S. military built bunkers on top of Koko Crater with a railroad leading to its summit. In 1966, the air force ceded administration of Koko Crater over to the City of Honolulu. It was then renamed to the Koko Head Regional Park. Within this park is the Koko Crater Trail, which is a 1.8-mile-long trail that uses the now-abandoned railroad as its pathway. The trail heads up 990 ft and 1,048 railroad cross-ties at a very steep incline, and the views at the Koko Head Crater summit are 1,208 ft above sea level.
The abandoned railway trail can be seen as the faint 'line' up the side of the crater in the photograph above (starts just above the baseball/softball field and ends at the peak of the crater). This photo was taken from the Hawai'i Kai Lookout along the side of Kalanianaʻole Highway.

I think this is my first time experimenting with a multiple daylight long exposures, I took 400 shots at this famous spot on Xinyi Avenue, and then picked five of them to create this image.
1. Clouds (one exposure): 192 sec., f22, 11mm, ISO 200 + ND8 + ND400 + Black card.
2. Traffic (four exposures): 1 sec., f22, 11mm, ISO 200 + ND8 + Black card
3. Processing: Adobe Camera Raw + CS6 + Google Nik Collection
Have a great day!

This is the first post from the first day of my 8 day 10 park, Southwest Tour. I arrived in Zion mid afternoon and just my luck all campsites were taken, I cruised the campground hoping for someone to pull out as I was driving by, but still no luck. Looks like I'll be sleeping in my car off the road somewhere. I then decided to take my camera down to the Virgin River and snap a few shots, so I pulled into the parking lot of the picnic area right next to the campground then walked down the path towards the stream. I noticed that there were a couple of campsites that were unoccupied. How did I and everyone else miss these few spots. Turns out that these few sites are carry-in sites, which means you have to carry your stuff from your car to the site and park your car elsewhere. This worked out just perfect because I fully intended to shoot the watchman that evening at 11:00pm. Turns out this site has an unobstructed view and sits the closest to the watchman than any other site. Luck-Good!!
Once settled in my site I proceeded to drive up through the tunnel to the back of the park because I knew I would be leaving at 4:00am (in the dark) and if I didn't do it during the day, I would miss that section of the park. I was looking in particular for a rock formation I had seen in a photo by Ryan Engstrom. I managed to find it with little difficulty and during my rock hunting I ran across this fellow watching me walk by. He looked so healthy and regal and just stared as I knelt down to snap a few. I think I took about 30 shots of this guy before he grew bored of posing and bounded away straight up behind him, man are theses animals nimble, I stood in awe of the path he chose to make his exit, as if gravity was suspended. :)

There is an interesting tangle of long tree roots along the bank of the lake and it is not always easy or obvious to identify which tree they belong to...
A single RAW file processed mainly in Lightroom with a little work in CS6.
This shot was taken on Saturday at Burrator. The mist was only there for a few minutes, but i managed to get this eerie shot. i edited it using CS6 which i don't know how to use, so excuse any discrepancies. Hope you like it.
