This is an 8 image LE pano taken from Fajada Butte Overlook in New Mexico. I had to create this LE effect in photoshop because WAYNE ran over my camera bag with his jeep and shattered my 10 stop ND filter. Jeez, you just can't trust some people. Hehe (Sorry Wayne!!!) :)

I have to speak in Wayne's defense though, he was busy operating the crane to unload Chris's massive tripod, you should have seen Chris carrying that behemoth across the desert cradling it in his arms as if it was a wounded child, kinda reminded me of the ending of the movie "True Grit". Man that's determination. After watching him try to find a comfortable position to carry it I mistakingly offered to carry it for him the last 1/2 mile and within 50 ft immediately regretted it. :)

PREMESSA

e) Effettuate delle letture esposimetriche con un esposimetro esterno (visto i toni scuri del fondo, visto le zone molto chiare sul soggetto alternate a parti molto scure, l’esposimetro della macchina veniva fortemente influenzato dalle zone scure sovraesponendo irrimediabilmente le zone chiare rendendo il file inutilizzabile pertanto l’esposimetro esterno ha permesso di superare questo ostacolo. La differenza nella scala dei grigi era di circa 9 stop (con l’esposimetro impostato in spot della macchina si otteneva o una figura chiara e lo sfondo nero e privo di dettagli o figura alternata a parti chiare e scurissime e un fondo quasi correttamente esposto oppure viceversa uno sfondo slavato e sgradevole). Con il Sekonic DualSpot F-L-778 – impostato a 1° come angolo di lettura ho effettuato 7 misurazioni finali con metodo del Sistema Zonale di Ansel Adams;

.

Esposizioni:

.

1) …la prima è la somma di tutta una serie di letture effettuate sulle parti chiare della scena dalla quale ho ottenuto una media che ho posto sulla zona V al 18% con una leggera sovraesposizione di 1+2/3 di stop per aumentare la consistenza delle luci e dare maggiore risalto ai particolari;

2) …la seconda lettura è la somma di tutta una serie di letture effettuate sulle parti chiare sulle piegature dei vestiti e quelle scure, qui ho lasciato invariato il valore ottenuto visto che le zone si alternavano a zone chiare e scure con una differenza in stop di circa 2,0/4. Se variavo la risultante ottenuta avrei avuto degli scompensi di luminanza notevoli;

3) …la terza sullo zigomo sinistro del ragazzo (quello in parte in ombra e penombra);

4) …la quarta effettuata fra i capelli del ragazzo in avanti con l’acconciatura ad aghi, un’altra fra lo zigomo destro e l’occhio;

5) …la quinta sulle zone luminose e meno luminose delle braccia di entrambi anche se il ragazzo in avanti aveva la camicia chiara. Qui le letture sono state circa 6 per ottenere una risultante confacente alla scena in quanto ho dovuto indovinare la perfetta ed adeguata timbrica tonale per non fare risultare il braccio scoperto troppo chiaro e quello con a camicia scuro, inoltre visto che si trovavano alcune parti in forte penombra ed altre parti in ombra più lieve ho dovuto compensare per non fare risultare questa parte del fotogramma troppo pesante come tonalità e rischiavo di ottenere un falso sulla luce reale. (La lettura finale è stata sfalsata aumentando l’esposizione di n+1,5 per compensare la luminanza delle altre aree della scena, in particolare quella sulle zone molto chiare);

6) …la sesta lettura l’ho dedicata alla quinta della scena, tre letture fra parti chiare e scure per ottenere un buon compromesso di leggibilità e nello stesso tempo dare profondità di campo all’insieme. Questa parte è stata anch’essa posta a n+2,0 stop;

7) ...la lettura finale è la media ottenuta di tutte le letture sopra (sovraesposta di n+1,5) è stata confrontata con la settima lettura effettuata con l’esposimetro Gossen Lunalite con la calotta rivolta perpendicolarmente all’ottica di ripresa. Con il Gossen la luminanza principale è stata posta sulla zona IV del Grigio Medio al 18% abbassando volutamente la scala tonale alla zona IV per attutire i grigi medi che risultavano di 2 valori superiori alla media ponderata della luminosità generale. Ciò ha permesso di equiparare i grigi e alzare la scala tonale generale di una zona. Vista la forte prevalenza delle zone basse il valore totale è stato sovraesposto di n+1/3 per evitare che l’esposizione finale impostata non penalizzasse le basse luci dello sfondo (la luce che si proiettava su i due ragazzi “nonostante il cielo limpido e leggermente soleggiato” era molto corposa “temperatura cromatica 5950°k”) e le basse luci (le luci in ombra e penombra erano troppo basse stimate in 1850°K/2700°K) nel calcolo della tecnica dell’Esposizione a Destra. Questa tecnica rappresenta un importante metodo di lavoro nella fotografia digitale, che permette al fotografo di ottenere foto meno rumorose e qualitativamente migliori;

.

f) Prima Leggera Post-Produzione effettuata con Nikon Capture NX 2 (effettuando diverse mascherature localizzate, riduzione di luminanza delle zone “zona VI-VIII e IX” e aumentando la struttura della zone “zona III-IV e V”)

g) Seconda Post-Produzione Leggerissima effettuata con Corel Photo-Paint X7 64Bit e Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64Bit) per il miglioramento globale dell’immagine riducendo il divario zonale delle aree (ovvero effettuando una compressione delle zone);

h) Ultima Post-Produzione di completamento con Nikon Capture NX 2 per migliorare e rinvigorire le zone con mascherature parziali e localizzate;

The Liberty Historic District is located in the small community of Liberty (population of 374 in 2019) in rural western Dekalb County in Middle Tennessee. The District was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places under criteria A & C for its association with the Sparta-Lebanon center for the surrounding farms in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and as a fine collection of vernacular architecture dating between the 1820's and 1930's. When Liberty's small scale vernacular architecture is combined with its narrow tree-lined streets, rock walls and stone fences, outbuildings, and surrounding farmland, the feeling of a nineteenth to early twentieth century community is readily conveyed. Located at 375 East Main Street, this is the Organ House built circa 1890 with its Greek Revival architecture. This house is listed on the original documents submitted to the NRHP as inventory item #65 and includes a great description of the details of the house. The historic district, including the Organ House, was added to the registry on June 25, 1987. More information about the historic district (and that description of this house) can be viewed on those original documents located here:

Visually reminiscent of the Age of Rail, which had a positive impact on the economy of Hillsboro, the Katy Depot stands today in close proximity to the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad lines as well as the Hill County Courthouse (National Register, 6/21/71), the focal point of the downtown commercial district. Hillsboro was established in 1853 to serve as the governmental seat and trade center for a basically agrarian county, cotton the primary crop. The completion of the MKT Railroad through Hillsboro in 1881 increased the commercial activity of the city and broadened its economic base. With locally raised funds, the citizens of Hillsboro purchased the right of way and property needed for a depot. Functional requirements dictated the size and massing of the structure which reflects architectural and decorative styles popular at the turn of the century, reminiscent of the Prairie style of architecture.

The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, commonly known as the Katy, was the first rail line to reach Hillsboro. Passenger service on the line, which connected Fort Worth and Temple, began on April 26, 1881, with four daily trains and a sleeper through to Chicago. The Katy Railroad brought a surge of economic activity to this agricultural region, becoming a major means of exporting cotton and livestock. As the economic base broadened, so did the population, which facilitated both residential and commercial expansion. Building materials were brought in by train and used to construct then contemporary structures. With the completion of the railroad several Katy buildings were constructed including: a frame station consisting of a waiting room, office, and a freight room; a cotton platform; and a section house. In 1894, Katy built division shops and a roundhouse in Hillsboro. The original station was converted to a freight house in 1902 and the present depot (seen in the photograph above) was erected on the land purchased by the city of Hillsboro. Throughout its operating years, the depot served as an integral part of the Hillsboro community. Among those visiting Hillsboro via the Katy were railroad tycoon Jay Gould, and Presidents Woodrow Wilson, William H. Taft, Calvin Coolidge, and Harry Truman. And, the depot served as the departure and arrival point for World War I and II soldiers serving their country.

On December 19, 1979, the Katy Depot (aka the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Company Railroad Depot) was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) for its architecture, history, and being the location of historic events as described above. All of the information above was found on the original documents submitted for listing consideration which can be viewed here:

This is a photo of a rock formation that I cycled passed in Joshua Tree. My friend and I decided to Mountain Bike around Joshua Tree so I grabbed my camera gear and we headed out. This was the only time that I have ridden a mountain bike with a camera around my neck(No Hills). We rode about 5 miles and where riding cross country style using only the old climbing trails that wrap around the rock formations when we decided to stop here in the shade and rest. The light streaming across the rocks with golden late afternoon sunshine caught my eye so I moved around a bit to align this composition. :)
