It wouldn't be a warehouse show without a warehouse quality bathroom. Note the poster on the right, which shows that I opened for Finn Riggins, Jared Mees and the Grown Children and Test Audiences once upon a time. Crawlspace, La Grande, OR.

On June 12, 2013, Veterans Green Jobs and GRID Alternatives Colorado, alongside Wells Fargo volunteer teams, provided a series of home improvement upgrades for a Denver couple. Henry (Ray) and Roslyn Navarro received weatherization improvements – including an energy efficient furnace, a water heater, insulation in the attic and crawlspace, CFL lightbulbs throughout the house, carbon monoxide/smoke detectors, and window sealing; solar panels; and exterior painting, landscaping and tree planting. The measures will boost the health, safety, energy efficiency and aesthetics of the 1952 home – as well as reduce the Navarros’ utility bills.

The white and pink liner covering the old foundation was installed by a previous company hired by the homeowner years ago in attempt to waterproof the foundation.

You can see how poor of job this liner did in protecting the foundation. If your foundation is leaking, it does not help to simply put a band-aid on it.

Went into the crawlspace earlier and found some of my old toy cars from childhood. This 70's Chevy Blazer (unknown co.) was one of many old toy cars with the same Sheriff/Highway Patrol theme, all of which came from Switzerland in the early 90's.

Vancouver, WA GRIMM Enterprises LLC rental home where I stay with my family, and I've been having all kinds of problems (vomiting, dizzy, sick) worst in the mornings and nights, always in this rental home.

Even though Clark County has a gang unit, and every day there's breaking and entering, Corporal Hemstock (of Vancouver PD) spoke to my 5 minutes, refused to report and told others I'm mentally ill and suicidal. WHAT?

Gutters are the exterior drainage system of your home. It is important to keep up maintenance on your gutters to prevent them from leading to serious damage in the future.

If your gutters are not installed properly, damage to your home can occur, including:

Home and basement flooding

Cracked/damaged foundation

Infestations: Mosquitoes and other insects breed in standing water

Mold: Overflowing gutters create an environment for mold to flourish in crawlspaces and basements

Erosion: Topsoil protects the foundation of your home. If water is not correctly diverted away from your home the topsoil will erode and leave your foundation vulnerable.

Staining to the exterior of your home fascia, soffit, wood framing and outside walls as well as decks, patios, driveways and walkways

Paint damage

Rotting/Rusting of exterior building products

Damage to landscaping

Once installed correctly, be sure to clean them out at least twice a year!

The things you find when cleaning out the crawlspace...

When I lived in Minnesota, my neighborhood included a very odd little museum, the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices, dedicated to the odd devices associated with medical quackery over the years, including bloodletting devices, placebo pills, radium drops, etc.

One of the main exhibits of the small museum was a Psycograph, a machine that automatically characterized your head and used the principles of phrenology to characterize your personality. It did this using a contraption that was a gigantic metal helmet hooked to a little box of gears, rollers, and stamps, that would look at the height of different regions on your head, and turn that into a little paper tape listing your personality characteristics.

The results of my "head examination" are shown here. I seem to score well in "Individuality", "Wit", "Dignity", and "Exactness", while scoring poorly in "Secretiveness" and "Sexamity" (whatever that is... the hallmark of a good pseudoscience is unique terminology).

Using their provided interpretation chart, you could use these results to determine what your ideal profession is. Going through the results, I'm not a terribly great match for anything in particular, but I do score quite highly for "Zeppelin Attendant." Apparently I was born half a century too late (although I do score well with "Consulting Engineer", which is my actual profession).

This low retaining wall separates the main basement from a crawlspace (visible at top, in shadows). A wall is going up right in front of it.

The hive was in the crawl space under a brick house. It was hanging from the under side of the floor and floor joists.

Our house - seventh anniversary: new color (last July), insulation in the attic and crawlspace (looks beautiful doesn't it?), and some furniture in new places. I have an office and Izzy's room is the ad hoc guest room. Didn't have time to tidy this year - a sure sign that we are busier than ever.

On Friday, a raccoon was hit by a car on our street. Come Saturday, Myshelle started hearing mewing noises coming from under the house. Suited up in boots and grubby jeans, and armed with flashlights and a kitty carrier, we tried to climb into the crawlspace. Unfortunately, there was no room at all for us to get in. We ended up having to rip up one of the floor-boards in the closet to access them. Here's Myshelle, trying to peer into the hole.

On April 6th, 2014, Rebuilding Together NYC partnered with Friends of Rockaway and volunteers from Citi to repair a Sandy-damaged home in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn. Volunteers tackled the difficult task of cleaning out a crawlspace and laying down a vapor barrier, helping provide a low-income homeowner with a clean, safe, and dry home from the ground up!

It's amazing how the most bizarre things can reenergize creative types sometime – we all have our odd quirks right?

With an ill-timed plumbing project intruding on my final project deadlines I found myself in our house’s crawl space looking for the main water shut off valve. While down there I discovered that our foundation was largely in part constructed of the original World War Two workforce housing that sat on our property until 1950. I have always wondered what happened to the original buildings… now I know.

I love making unexpected discoveries like this… they always manage to rejuvenate my passion for the profession and the connection to architecture of the past that directly impacts the design of today.

Near Su Gorropu, this is a typical "giant's tomb," a prehistoric (and pre-Nuraghic) burial barrow. It's about a meter wide and four meters long, hence its name, with a teensy crawlspace for an entrance. Now uncovered, was probably covered with stones and earth.
