Henry (Ray) and Roslyn Navarro received weatherization improvements – including an energy efficient furnace, a water heater, insulation in the attic and crawlspace, CFL lightbulbs throughout the house, carbon monoxide/smoke detectors, and window sealing; solar panels; and exterior painting, landscaping and tree planting. The measures will boost the health, safety, energy efficiency and aesthetics of the 1952 home – as well as reduce the Navarros’ utility bills.
Was invited to shoot this very cool birthday surprise! Was a lot of fun, even crawling around in the dusty old crawlspace
Setting the plumbing for the first floor in the crawlspace was very difficult. We cannot raise the new walls because they are 9 ft tall and the roof hasn't been torn off yet. Roof is sitting at 8ft, so cannot build walls. So, I had to meticulously analyze WHERE the new walls are going to be and make a mark where sinks, toilets, etc are going to be. Then bring plumbing up where it is going to be needed
Which do you like better? Color or Monochrome?

Went into the crawlspace earlier and found some of my old toy cars from childhood. This 70's Chevy Blazer (unknown co.) was one of many old toy cars with the same Sheriff/Highway Patrol theme, all of which came from Switzerland in the early 90's.

The new addition was built on a conditioned crawl space so that ducting could be run through the crawl space and not be subject to heat loss. The condition crawlspace perimeter was made up of 8" Greenblock insulated concrete forms (ICFs) and sprayed with a Rub-R-Wall waterproofing membrane.
This kitten has taken up residence under our house, which has a crawlspace. We can hear him meowing under our bedroom each morning, and he has gotten accustomed to the kids' feeding him each day. I am hoping that he takes care of our vole problem.
I went back to this house in Mims, Florida:

The ditch here drains down past Pennsylvania to the Empson Ditch. Roxwood to the left there was a running river, as was 55th out of view to the right. Cypress to the extreme left was feeding more water in from Brooklawn and Crescent.
I got as far as Pennsylvania and 55th Thursday night by car, then parked and waded/walked in the rest of the way to rescue a dog, two cats, and finally to check on another cat. I avoided trying to wade across this particular hole. :)
Multiple friends on Crescent, Brooklawn, Laurel, and McIntire had crawlspace or basement flooding.
I think we got off easy compared to what hit the hills and further north/east. Kudos to the flood control engineers.
Turn around and face north - bathroom is on the left. This is the north wall that was a mess with plumbing pipes and some of it was open to crawlspace so I had them drywall this side of the basement. This area is under the powder room and stairs. The new post is part of support for a corner of the staircase. The visible pipes are the only ones I couldn't get covered. They are coming down from powder room above

i love his little hands here. in a way, it kind of felt like our first christmas. this time leo understood what was going on and their was lists to be made and wishes to be left under the tree. we talked more about santa and while we went shopping and made our list, i reminded him that christmas isn't about buying things for yourself, but rather thinking of others. i think he got it. he was convinced that the elves had a special workshop in the crawlspace under our stairs.
we were in the car with my friend a few weeks back and she asked leo 'what would you like for christmas?'
he responded that he would like a fire truck, a wolverine hand claw (what on earth - right??) and new perfume. leo said the new perfume was for his mom because he dumped mine in the toilet. leo even had good intentions with the whole perfume in the toilet ordeal, but after the talking to, he realized he had done wrong. my heart melted that he even thought of me and wanted to right his wrong.
we opened presents twice before santa officially came. leo got the claw, he got a crane and books and games and treats galore. i asked him christmas night before we went to sleep what he thought happened. had santa forgot to bring his fire truck? did it get lost in transit? had it gone to the wrong little boy? leo told me that it was ok, that he was happy with all he had gotten. he wasn't worried about the firetruck.
so it's the day after christmas and my aunt and cousins are at our house to eat and celebrate when after dinner, in walks santa. and you know what he pulled out of that bag after we went over the naughty and nice lists?
amongst the presents for everyone else - a firetruck and new perfume.
that makes for an unforgetable christmas....so to my mom and dad, you are the best. thank you for filling our hearts to the brim.

I wanted to go all-in on coleus back here, using plants I grew from cuttings over the winter. However, I was forbidden from blocking the crawlspace access, and an issue with the downspouts turned the soil into quicksand. So everything is in planters. This isn't quite what I envisioned, but you can sort of see where I was going with it.
For this year's crawl space project I removed all the original R-13 insulation, scrubbed off any mold and mildew, put up new R-19 insulation, hauled away debris, insulated the hot water pipes, and put down a new plastic vapor barrier.
Glad to be done...for now.
Did you know that dressing to clean rat poo out of a crawlspace is the same as dressing to change a leaky diaper
