The title about sums up my thoughts of ever entering the Scenic River Road house again based on how its decayed over the last few years. My wife unfortunately fell through a back porch a few years back-luckily it was an add-on and only had a small crawlspace under it and her newer jeans were the only causality. But there have been several other collapses since then, and a bulldozer and match are probably soon in her future...

Don't you just hate it when your pipes rattle and have to send someone down the crawl space to investigate.

As long as John's good I'll let him back up ;)

Everyone deserves at least one cray day! And I know I've said this a million times but if you run into someone that can't admit they are crazy... then that the kinda crazy you need to get the hell up and away from ;) Cause that there... is the really crazy mo fo... the kind that has newspaper clippings on their wall and a crawlspace!

. . . The cabin has a French Drain system under the eaves to get rainwater away from the cabin crawlspace. On top of the drain system is pea gravel, and out of that grew a large group of wild Columbine flowers!

Outta the friggin' frying pan, into the fire...

Things haven't improved much since my last near-death experience. I hung out with Cryptid and his gang for a while, until new orders came through to me. Orders which led to this audio log, and me in a heap of trouble. I was to singlehandedly infiltrate an Urag assault craft.. It was a suicide mission! The assault craft are packed with bloodthirsty Urag soldiers, ready to kill countless USDF soldiers. They often turn the tide of a battle in the favor of the 'Rags, by disgorging wave after wave of fresh troops. And my job was to destroy it. The plan was simple- Cryptid and the rest of the Silent Wolves in the area were to attract the attention of the commanding Urags in the ship, while I sneaked aboard one of the shuttle craft ferrying the Urags to the surface. At this point, the rest of the soldiers were to split, leaving me silent in the ship. But it has been said that no plan survives contact with the enemy. This was painfully aware by the time the shuttle reached the Assault Craft. Instead of a few lax sentries, I was greeted by a ship teeming with alert, bloodthirsty warriors. I was hit badly in the leg nearly as soon as I left the shuttle; they had been waiting for me. I just barely managed to limp into a maintenance crawlspace before they had a chance to kill me. I am in the process of administering medical aid to myself, but I fear that it will not be enough. I can hear them coming for me, their guttural grunts and harsh barks indicating that they are getting closer. I cannot get out. There are shadows, shadows moving in the dark. They are coming, and I won't be able to hold them for long...

$25 13x19 prints shipped any where in the US.

I am recording this from a dank prison cell, in the bowels of the ship. I was captured by the Urags, and stripped of my weapons. I remember it vividly; or rather, I don't. Back in the crawlspace, I remember the sounds of the Urags suddenly stop. Then, a sickly-sweet smelling gas began pouring through the vents. I was unconscious in seconds. When I groggily woke up, I was cuffed, and being dragged by some Urag grunt to this cell. He tossed me in one that was deactivated, and began to leave. As he left, the bars of energy that serve as a door hummed to life, locking me in. All I have left is my audio recorder. Unfortunately for the Urags, I always keep some tools stashed away inside...

Note- The border is supposed to be the edges of a security camera lens.

Again, two off-camera flashes - fired with eBay wireless triggers. The Vivitar in my hand, and the Speedlite 430 EX (set to 1/8th power) on the floor off to the left of camera to add a little fill light.

What will I discover in there? Maybe we'll find out tomorrow....

Berclair is a tiny unincorporated community on US 59 about sixteen miles south of Goliad. It was founded in 1889 and served as a shipping point on the Gulf,Western Texas Pacific rail line. I couldn't find much information on the old schoolhouse,so I enlisted the help of Ms. Shelly Park of the Goliad Public Library. She was kind enough to do some research but was unable to learn when it was built. However, she was able to determine that it was in existence as early as 1918. So,while it's uncertain when it was built or when it was last in use, it appears to have been around for at least the last 100 years. Texas public schools consolidated around 1944 and the Berclair school probably closed in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Berclair,Texas. 7.5.2017.

A mantella frog from Northern Madagascar's Ankarana Special Reserve. These are small terrestrial frogs that are quite nicely colored and often collected for the pet trade. I'm not quite sure on the ID for this one - M. ebenaui is a group of frogs, similar to M. bestsileo, that may or may not contain several different species and may hybridize with M. viridis in the wild.

These frogs are apparently relatively common during the rainy summer season but I found them quite difficult to find during the dry season. After a day and a half of searching without any luck, I decided to inspect an area surrounding one of the simple bathroom facilities near the entrance to the park. I found three of them hiding in a small crawlspace that had retained some moisture.

Ants nests may be located almost anywhere—in hidden and protected areas indoors, in soil

near foundations, under concrete slabs, in crawlspaces, in structural wood, in the yard or

garden, in trees, or in almost any protected location on a property.

I came upon this mouse, quite recently deceased, at the entry to the basement crawlspace. What else to do but to quickly set up a still life?

Behind the beat-up brick facade and ancient sign, the Matador is a pure piece of Torontonia. Opened in 1964, this after-hours honky-tonk hot spot was the brainchild of Ann Dunn, a single mother of five who wanted a business that wouldn’t interfere with her main job—child-rearing. Sounds exhausting, but Toronto nightlife is the better for it: 24-hour party people have been hoofing it here for decades (and the owner is now a great-grandmother). The crowd is a fun mix of Stetson-wearing old-timers and younger night owls looking for one last dance (even though the Matador has always been, ahem, alcohol-free).

-Toronto Life

The Matador was destined to be reappropriated by the city, torn down and replaced by a parking lot in 2007 when it finally closed its doors. Torontonians rallied, (Including Michael Ondaatje and members of Blue Rodeo) and the decision was defeated in council.

Bought in the 2010 by Paul McCaughey who will be keeping the Matador’s iconic sign at his new community living space. Plans for the building include a live music venue, a restaurant, a fitness centre, and perhaps a Russian steam room. The space was set to open by the end of 2011, but still remains vacant and under construction (July 2013)

'McCaughey said he’s working to preserve the building’s past.... keeping the signature wall in the ballroom, which carries the signed names of some of North America’s most celebrated country and folk singers who visited the Matador, including Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, K.D. Lang, and Stompin’ Tom Connors. “It’s 45 years of history,” he said, adding that there must be at least a thousand signatures on the wall."" McCaughey is also planning to pay tribute to the building’s original use, a dancehall for soldiers during World War One. Open until 1920, McCaughey said it was likely the last dance soldiers had before going overseas. Recently, he found an old ticket in the crawlspace of the building from one of these dances, which had a chaperon’s name written on it.

An application has just been submitted to turn the more than 100-year-old building at College and Dovercourt into a six-storey structure containing more than 1,000 square metres of commercial space over the basement and bottom two floors, and 30 residential units on the top four.

Ross Abbey, Headford, County Galway, Ireland

The Ross Errilly Friary is a medieval Franciscan friary located about a mile to the northwest of Headford, County Galway, Ireland. It is a National Monument of Ireland and among the best-preserved medieval monastic sites in the country. Though usually referred to by locals as "Ross Abbey," this is not technically correct as the community never had an abbot.

Like many other abandoned Christian sites in Ireland, Ross Errilly has continued to be used as a burial ground by area residents. In addition to tombs that date from the friary's active period, many graves dating from the 18th through 20th centuries can be found inside the church walls. In some cases, tombstones comprise the floors of walkways and crawlspaces.

Slim C. Rawlspace always wanted to live on the water. It took a long time until he found the perfect spot. It's roomy, not too wet unless it rains a lot and he has a view day or night. Mainly at night because he usually gets run off during the day if anyone sees him poke his head out from the crawlspace. The drawback is that he has to park his shopping cart in a different area because it won't fit in his space. The stores have reclaimed his cart ten times along with all his good stuff.

The above story is hog wash. Slim has only had his cart stolen three times.

This is one of our cats. Her name is Ash and she's around 7 years old. She and her brother, Boots, were the first two of the Smithereen Garage Cats. They were born in the crawlspace above the garage (the spouse converted our detached garage into a workshop, put in a drop ceiling and insulation and that's where their mom had the kittens). Their mom dumped them in a planter in front of our house and then watched from the outside edge of the yard till we took them inside. Then she left.

Crawlspace beneath abandoned house. Crawling with what i can only imagine!

This is our loveable and slightly obnoxious black cat named Muerte. He's the first cat we've had that is simultaneously the sweetest baby who ever purred and the biggest dickhead who ever smacked a dog upside the head. (he likes to "play" with Vlad/Groot and he's all happy to play back till Muerte gets a little hyper). If you think he's got dirt on him, you're right. His favorite past time is to crawl into spaces where no light has been in decades and to come out wearing all the dust.

Muerte and his sister- Blaze- were born in a crawlspace under our garage. Blaze walked out and introduced herself, then we found Muerte and another mostly black kitten. He's named Dexter and he lives with our youngest daughter and her other two cats.

F is for feline.

The church and bell tower are to the south of a small but well preserved central cloister and domestic buildings are to the north. Amongst these are a kitchen (equipped with an oven and a water tank for live fish), a bake house, and a refectory or dining area. The dormitories are on the upper levels. One unusual feature is a second courtyard or cloister, built to accommodate the friary's growing population.

Self-imprisonment starts from the bits of one’s thought. Man is manacled only by himself and deep within his skull man locked himself in a crawlspace, thought and action are the jailor of fate.

I crawled through the cabling and made my way to the adjacent room. Somehow I knew this could be done ... did I do this before? Weird. More strange machinery, no living soul though. I heard humming noises behind me and as I turned around everything went dark ...

About as rundown as possible.

Bandit-masked raccoons are a familiar sight just about everywhere, because they will eat just about anything. These ubiquitous mammals are found in forests, marshes, prairies, and even in cities. They are adaptable and use their dexterous front paws and long fingers to find and feast on a wide variety of fare.

In the natural world, raccoons snare a lot of their meals in the water. These nocturnal foragers use lightning-quick paws to grab crayfish, frogs, and other aquatic creatures. On land, they pluck mice and insects from their hiding places and raid nests for tasty eggs.

However, raccoons are also just as happy feasting on what’s in your trash cans and garden. They’re smart and will even open garbage cans to dine on the contents. That adds up to a messy problem for homeowners and businesses. Additionally, raccoons are happy dinning just about anywhere that feels safe, including attics and crawlspaces, where they become a noisy nightmare for homeowners.

I found this one along Alligator Alley At Circle B Bar Reserve back in January of this year!

Anyone who hates crawl spaces raise your camera. We have a creaky floor, so I thought I'd take a look. After that, no chance I'm crawling under the house. And the drain pipe to the left looks like it was put together with small sections of PVC. The red pipe looking thing? What the heck is that? And why's it wound over and under other unknown pipes and copper tubing? Time to phone an expert...or someone like one.

The Survivor Tree, surrounded by the Rescuers' Orchard, stands in front of the Journal Record Building, which houses the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum.

An American elm on the north side of the Memorial, this was the only shade tree in the parking lot across the street from the Murrah Building. Commuters arrived early to get one of the shady parking spots provided by its branches. Photos of Oklahoma City taken in the 1920s show the tree to be about 100 years old. The tree was taken for granted prior to the blast. Heavily damaged by the bomb, the tree survived after nearly being chopped down during the initial investigation, when workers wanted to recover evidence hanging in its branches and embedded in its bark.

The force of the blast ripped most of the branches from the Survivor Tree, glass and debris were embedded in its trunk and fire from the cars parked beneath it blackened what was left. Most thought the tree could not survive. Almost a year after the bombing, family members, survivors and rescue workers gathered for a memorial ceremony by the tree noticed it was beginning to bloom again. The Survivor Tree now thrives, and the Outdoor Memorial design includes a mandate to feature and protect the tree. For example, one of the roots that would have been cut by the wall surrounding the tree was placed inside a large pipe, so it could reach the soil beyond the wall without being damaged. The decking around the tree was raised several feet to make an underground crawlspace; workers enter through a secure hatchway and monitor the health of the tree and maintain its very deep roots.

The inscription around the inside of the deck wall around the Survivor Tree reads:

The spirit of this city and this nation will not be defeated; our deeply rooted faith sustains us.

Hundreds of seeds from the Survivor Tree are planted annually and the resulting saplings are distributed each year on the anniversary of the bombing. Thousands of Survivor Trees are growing in public and private places all over the United States.
