Tom Kierein, the amazing meteorologist at NBC invited me out to tour the studio yesterday and I had a blast! Just seeing the studio, newsrooms and all the work and effort that goes into the news everyday was incredible. I think I said “that’s so cool” about 50 times. Not only that, everyone at NBC were so incredibly nice.
Thanks again to Tom who took me around the studio and let me watch him in action!

The new design for the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston provides world class exhibition and performance space and stunning waterfront views from the cantilevered galleries. Designed by architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the ICA makes use of translucent channel glass and sophisticated skylighting systems to control the amount of natural light in the galleries. The mediatheque is another interesting feature that drops down from below the cantilever and provides digital media users an astonishing view of the water.

Paving of Tuck Inlet Road will ensure safe and reliable access to the residents of Lax Kw'alaams and visitors to their community.
Lax Kw'alaams is accessed via ferry from Prince Rupert, which docks at Tuck Inlet. The current gravel road connecting the ferry dock with the village was last upgraded in 2006. Prince Rupert-based Adventure Paving will pave the existing gravel surface, replace one bridge and make safety improvements – such as concrete barriers, speed reader boards and pullouts – along the 17.5-kilometre road. Wind/solar powered lighting for the ferry dock will also be installed.
When complete, the resurfaced road will increase safety and accessibility for residents, businesses and tourists. Work on the road is expected to finish on Sept. 30, 2016, and realignment and bridge work is expected to be finished at the end of October, 2016.
This project is part of B.C. on the Move, the ministry's 10-year transportation plan, to work with First Nations on projects that support economic development on their lands.

Combat Control Schoolhouse students assigned to the 352nd Battlefield Airmen Training Squadron, endured a tactics field training exercise at Camp Mackall on Aug. 3, 2016. The 352nd BATS, or Combat Control School, is the home of a 13-week course that provides initial CCT qualifications. The training includes, small unit tactics, land navigation, communications, assault zones, physical training demolitions, fire support and field operations including parachuting. At the completion of this course, each graduate is awarded the three-skill level, scarlet beret and CCT flash.

A controlled burn was done on Little Round Top on Gettysburg National Battlefield on April 10th 2017. The Burn helped with the removal of undergrowth, the creation of wildlife habitat, and helped restore the battlefield closer to what it would have looked like in July 1863. ______________

Traffic light controlled roadworks has narrowed the road to a less than ideal width.
By adopting the primary position I have asserted my presence. No traffic can pass. I control the following traffic. I am safer. No cars, vans or busses are squeezing past. This is not about getting in the way, slowing other traffic down or any other reason apart from safety. In this case the traffic was not held up due to my presence (and in any case there was nobody behind me anyway when the photo was taken).
Road cycling is a skill.
"What are the primary and secondary riding positions and when should they be used?
The primary riding position is in the centre of the lane. The secondary riding position is about a metre to the left of moving traffic, but not closer than 0.5 metres to the edge of the road (closer would mean no room for manoeuvre in emergencies and also riding over glass and other kinds of road debris)."

The majority of the times that I have encountered a conflict of space it is because I have not adopted the primary position and controlled the traffic. For example: at mini roundabouts, road narrowings, near pedestrian refuges.
From these conflicts one builds up experience.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone starting, re-starting or has been cycling for a while. It is written by John Franklin and is UK specific.
