East Broad Top 16 crests the grade at McMullins Summit and starts the downgrade journey to Colgate Grove.

Roland just turned 100 days old.

"Baek-il is celebrated on the 100th day after a child’s birth. Long ago in Korea, childhood diseases were common and the survival rate for children was very low. To protect their children, parents refrained from taking the baby outdoors until the 100th day after his or her birth.

It is not until baek-il that the baby was introduced to neighbors, friends and relatives. One of the baek-il’s special events is the parents providing rice cakes, called baekseolgi, to at least 100 people. They believe this event helps to protect the child’s life. They also pray for the child’s continued good health."

Continuing in the "two-people portrait" line, this is Sebastian and Pascal at the wedding reception. This also marks the return of Simon Lebon to my stream! ;)

The tour continues.

Each day now has the same structure: Get up at about seven, breakfast at half eight, meet at the vans at half nine for the drive to the first site, stay there two hours, drive to next site, have lunch before another two hours searching, and on the drive back to the hotel, one last stop of an hour or so, go to the square for a beer, debrief at seven fifteen before going for dinner at eight.

Rinse and repeat.

Monday was the same as above. Each day the sites and butterflies are different, of course, and we never know if we will see what we hope to see at each site.

Breakfast is simple: a roll or two, yogurt, coffee, then back to the room to prepare to leave.

Unlike the previous tour, we try to rotate which bus we sit in each day, so not to create cliques, I sit in Dave's bus, though Gillian in the front seat talks all say, all day about nothing really, just to fill the silence, and is certain she is right about everything.

Again through the mountains, poor villages, and bright green lush fields before we turn down a track through a forest to come to a wide grass area, which had a small bog at the bottom, too muddy for much exploring, and anyway these early season butterflies don't frequent the bog. Our target was the Spring Ringlet.

We wander off, and despite it being warmer than the day previous, butterflies were slow to wake up, so it was an hour really before we saw any. Two tattered Iberian Scare Swallowtails delighted us all, as they fed on fresh Blackthorn blossom, and the usual suspects of Orange Tips, Provence Orange Tips, Queen of Spains all flew through.

Up on the wooded slope, news came that the Ringlets had been found, so we go off to explore, with only a couple of folks getting shots. We did find the first orchid of the trip, a tiny Early Purple growing in the shelter of a hollow.

Back down to the vans for a short drive to the lunch site, near a waterfall.

It was already very warm, so I sat on the tailgate while the others went off, however I would be rewarded with fine views of a newly emerged European Swallowtail, an Iberian Sooty Copper and a Green Underside Blue.

Which was all nice.

On the road again to the final site, a narrow country lane leading to a ravine, where in an abandoned field, we had hoped to see the rarest of the lot, a Sooty Orange Tip.

In fact the site was rich in butterflies, with many Blues, and the other Two Orange Tips, a Provencal Fritillary.

A shout went out, and news that a Sooty Orange Tip had been seen, and indeed it had. The flighty butterfly was speeding round the field with half the group in pursuit, it likes only Hoary Mustard to feed on, and it did pause twice, but I wasn't fast enough to get shots. It flew off and was last seen disappearing into the afternoon haze.

FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Members of the original 281st Assault Helicopter Company "Intruders," stand with their namesakes; G Company, 2nd Assault Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade "Intruders." When G Co. was formed, leaders looked to the past to find an appropriate name for the new company, and discovered the 281st performed a very similar mission during the Vietnam War. These Vietnam veterans were invited to 2-10's organizational day, giving the Intruders, both young and old, a chance to meet.

Up and out it comes.

The little Contax Tix continues to surprise and delight. Let's be honest, APS film was a terrible idea. However, the Carl Zeiss lens on this camera (Sonnar 2.8/28 T*) was the best ever put onto an APS camera.

This camera is really useful for travel photography and candid snaps - particularly when you're travelling light; and you know what? Often, that type of photography is cool too.

I have a stash of APS film in my freezer:

Kodak Advantix 200 (EI100)

Fuji Nexia A200 (EI125)

Agfa APS Star 200 (EI100)

Agfa APS Star 400 (EI100)

I get all my films developed and scanned in Gunn's Cameras, 16 Wexford St., Dublin 2 for €9.50 each - a bargain.

Superb service; expert staff.

I use Aperture on my Mac to tweak the scans; extra definition, saturation and vibrancy, extra shadow brightening and a little cropping of highlights/contrast where necessary.

Yes, APS is a terrible format, but my goodness is it convenient, and I don't mind the time spent in post.

The Sweet peas add to the joy

Continued painting this over winter break, this shows it with light coming from behind it so the transparent bits allow you to see through it. Some more tweaking and developing and I will be ready to call it finished.

As we head out of Tracy Arm Fjord the water is almost like glass. The views of the clouds and mountains are amazing and cant be adequately described in pictures or words. Once out of the fjord we will continue to Juneau, arriving in a few hours. Tracy Arm Fjord was probably my favorite destination on this whole trip.

As we continued our exploration of the Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas, we crossed from the Solarium into the outer lobby area of the Vitality at Sea spa. Located on Deck 11, several peacock relief panels by Kevin Fazackerley adorned the areas between the forward elevator/stairwell lobby and the spa's outer lobbies on either side of the ship. I thought these tied in nicely with the elephant-themed Solarium, continuing the exotic, India-inspired vibe.

A few details from the informational placard accompanying these panels:

Vanna White is a sweet 2-year-old Pit Bull mix. She was transferred to Lollypop Farm from another shelter. Vanna can be very shy at first, but once she gets to know you she loves to snuggle and give kisses. Our Behavior Department worked with her to help build her confidence with new people. She is going to need a family who is committed to continuing her training using positive reinforcement techniques. She would do best in an active home where she can have lots of room to run and get in her daily training sessions. We have no history of Vanna living with another dog, but preferred to avoid our helper dogs here in the shelter. Vanna would do best in a home without young children. If you are looking for a sweet, chocolate beauty that will shower you with lots of kisses, come meet Vanna, she may be just the girl you're looking for.
