Bauakademie!
Am 12. Juni 2016 war ich mit Freunden im Berliner Bezirk Mittezwischen dem Kupfergraben sowie der Baustelle des „Berliner Schlosses“ bzw. „Humboldtforum“ unterwegs und habe dabei diese Aufnahmen gemacht.

Bauarbeiten am S-Bhf. Yorckstraße (Großgörschenstraße) - S1 - für den Austauschen der alten Brücken des Gleises Richtung Wannsee / Potsdam finden bereits seit vielen Monaten statt und sind inzwischen abgeschlossen; jetzt ist die Gegenrichtung dran.
Vor vielen Monaten wurde endlich ein Baustellenschild aufgestellt und ein Ende der Bauarbeiten tatsächlich für den 20.12.2014 (!) angekündigt. Lassen wir uns überraschen mit wie viel Verspätung dieses Bauprojekt erledigt wird.
Damit niemand mehr die Terminüberschreitung merkt, wurde Mitte März 2015 das Baustellenschild wieder entfernt!
Inzwischen gibt es Veröffentlichungen, die als Endtermin für die Bauarbeiten das Frühjahr 2015 bzw. September 2015 nennen. Mal sehen was dann stimmt!
Die „Deutsche Bahn AG hat natürlich nicht den Termin geschafft, denn bis zum späten April 2015 sind die Bauarbeiten immer noch nicht beendet! Aber vielleicht warten „Sie“ ja auf die Beendigung der Bauarbeiten im alten „Nordsüd-S-Bahntunnel“ am 3. Mai 2015, um dann alles zusammen wieder freizugeben?!
At the time that I am writing this (mid-July 2010) the world famous Wuppertal suspension monorail is out of service. This is due to major reconstruction work most of which has already been finished. But there are some segments of the line which are still awating complete replacement of the trestles and tracks. During the summer holidays of 2010 a very prominent part of the line is being replaced: It is the long curve which leads the trains from the river Wupper into the streets. Happily I'm living within walking distance from the construction site so that I can have a look at what is going on every day.

Again, a confirmation that this closed section of path is heading towrdas the city centre and that it is shared use fro pedestrains and cyclists.
The tree has hidden the END OF ROUTE sign that is on the same pole. Perhaps the tree is saving the blushes of the officer who put it there in the first place?
Nederland, Zuid-Holland, Nieuwe Waterweg, 28-09-2014; Functioneringssluiting Maeslantkering. De waterkering in de Nieuwe Waterweg wordt een maal per jaar, voordat het stormseizoen begint, getest. Tijdens het sluiten van de kering ligt alle scheepvaartverkeer naar de Rotterdamse haven stil. Aan de horizon Rotterdam, rechts Callandkanaal en de havens van Europoort. De Maeslantkering sluit normaal gesproken alleen bij dreigende stromvloed en bij een waterstand van 3 meter of meer boven NAP. De kering, onderdeel van de Deltawerken, vormt samen met de Hartelkering de Europoortkering en beschermt Rotterdam en achterland bij extreme waterstanden.

Sometimes even construction vehicles get stuck in the mud. Here Mark Bradley, of Boh Bros. Construction Co., observes a truck being pulled from the muck on Highland Road near Interstate 10. Boh Bros. The Indonesian Tsunami was tragic and devastating for the people of Indonesia. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed and millions were left homeless.
Minhaj Welfare Foundation (MWF) offered their services and facilities and helped with the construction of new buildings as well as providing water, food, clothes and shelter for those who lost everything.

Construction work on the new Fort Bragg Fisher House is done Feb. 12. Workers with Metric Corporation, the general contractor for the porject, poured cement for the curb wall of the house. The house is expected to be comleted in eight to 10 months.
Betognbygningen som er under oppbygging her er lærfabrikken på Stakkevollvegen, etablert i 1918. Byggearbeidet startet, i følge forfatter Nils A. Ytreberg, rundt nyttår i 1919 og stod ferdig i 1920. Det hvite huset bak er Barkhuset.
A/S Tromsø Lærfabrik ville bruke lokale råvarer i produksjonen; skinn fra husdyr, sel og steinbit. Bygginga av den 3 etasjer høye betongbygningen og kjøp av moderne maskiner fra USA (montert av Tromsø-installører), krevde imidlertid store investeringer. Da konjunkturene etterhvert snudde, og ytterligere lån til driftskapital ikke var tilgjengelig, førte dette til at bedriften ble slått konkurs allerede høsten 1920 og måtte legge ned sin virksomhet. Fabrikken ble stående uforandret med maskiner inntakt fram til kommunen overtok i 1934. Bygningen ble senere tatt i bruk av Næsvold Garveri. I dag er de øverste etasjene bygd om til boliger, og det er forretningsdrift i første etasje. Byggekomplekset og fasaden mot veien er bevaringsverdig og et viktig landemerke i området.
Lærfabrikken ble tegnet av ingeniør Knutzon, og påbegynt ved nyttår 1919 med A/S Jernbeton og murmester Sommer som entrepenører.

Vijzelgracht, Amsterdam.
Here's the story:
The fire brigade has removed some 20 occupants of four monumental buildings at Vijzelgracht, in Amsterdam center, because their homes had subsided during then night as a direct result of construction work for a new leg of Amsterdam’s subway system.
In June this year, another four buildings at Vijzelgracht were also damaged when a dam alongside the construction area had sprung a leak. This lowered the level of groundwater, causing the ground on which the historic houses were built to become unstable, allowing the houses — considered monuments — to sink several centimeters.

At the time construction work in that area was stopped while contractors and the city sought for possible solutions to the problem.
Among other things, contractors have inserted support beams underneath the houses. They have also injected grout which, in the process, raised the buildings to a level that makes it possible to start renovation work.
Assurances
Subway construction activities were resumed only just yesterday, with a spokesman for the ‘North-South line’ project assuring viewers of local TV station AT5 that occupants of the buildings alongside that stretch of the project had nothing to worry about.
Those occupants remained skeptical, and they warned the fire brigade themselves when they noticed cracks appearing in walls.
Many Amsterdammers voted against the new subway line, but the referendum was declared invalid because not enough people voted.
Developers claimed the project would be ready by 2011, at a cost of €300 million. Currently the project is slated to be finished in 2016, at a cost of €900 million. While the federal government provided initial financing, Amsterdam City itself is fully responsible for the extra costs. Naturally that kind of problem never hurts the politicians involved, but rather those affected by reduced subsidies and other forms of cost-cutting elsewhere.
Measuring System
A state-of-the-art measuring system is in place, in which the position of thousands of mirrors attached to buildings are checked by computer with the use of laser beams.
Critics of the project point out that once the system registers a problem, the damage has already been done.
Contractors say some subsiding cannot be helped. For instance, putting a dam into place to form the construction pit is likely to cause subsiding of 10 millimeters. Total subsiding due to the project will not, they claim, exceed 25 millimeters.
