ConstructionWork began on the project in 1994 and cost £1 million. Most of the project funding was provided by the National Lottery.
Due to its exposed location, the sculpture was built to withstand winds of over 100 mph (160 km/h). Thus, 600 tonnes of concrete were used to create foundations which anchor the sculpture to rock 70ft (20m) below.
The sculpture was built at Hartlepool Steel Fabrications Ltd. using Corten weather resistant steel. It was made in three parts—with the body weighing 100 tonnes and two wings weighing 50 tonnes each—then brought to its site by road. It took seven hours for the body to be transported from its construction site in Hartlepool, up the A19 road to the site.
Construction work on the Angel was finished on 16 February 1998. It aroused some controversy in British newspapers, at first, while local councillor, Martin Callanan, was especially strong in his opposition. It is now considered by some as a landmark for the Northeast of England[4][5] and has been listed by one organisation as an "Icon of England".
The sculpture was decorated in 1998 by fans of the Newcastle United football team who paid tribute to local hero Alan Shearer by putting a £1,000 team shirt over the Angel, complete with Shearer's name and famous number 9. The shirt stayed up for 20 minutes until the police removed it.
The sculpture is known locally as the "Gateshead Flasher", because of its location and appearance.

During the summer holidays of 2007 the old terminus station of Wuppertal's suspension monorail has been taken down and completely replaced by a modern steel-and-glass structure. The construction site looked chaotic to uninformed onlookers but in fact was extremely well organized. In this photograph all the red and maroon parts are temporary supports. Only the green parts will stay in place permanently.

Vor vielen Monaten wurde endlich ein Baustellenschild aufgestellt und ein Ende der Bauarbeiten tatsächlich für den 20.12.2014 (!) angekündigt. Lassen wir uns überraschen mit wie viel Verspätung dieses Bauprojekt erledigt wird.
Damit niemand mehr die Terminüberschreitung merkt, wurde Mitte März 2015 das Baustellenschild wieder entfernt!
Inzwischen gibt es Veröffentlichungen, die als Endtermin für die Bauarbeiten das Frühjahr 2015 bzw. September 2015 nennen. Mal sehen was dann stimmt!
Die „Deutsche Bahn AG hat natürlich nicht den Termin geschafft, denn bis zum späten April 2015 sind die Bauarbeiten immer noch nicht beendet! Aber vielleicht warten „Sie“ ja auf die Beendigung der Bauarbeiten im alten „Nordsüd-S-Bahntunnel“ am 3. Mai 2015, um dann alles zusammen wieder freizugeben?!
I used one of my own presets that I once created in LR (I call it Creative Split Tone 5). I opened up in CS5 and did some mild curve adjustment and I used Lab colors of 40% on the a channel. That's all.

It's not long before this place is scheduled to open, and some considerable progress has been made. The roof is now on and the windows are in. The pavements and roads are also still churned up by heavy lorries, etc.

This is a part of the project I work for, Inverdan in Zaandam city centre (www.inverdan.nl). This part is called 'The Knot' (De Knoop), because of the complexity of the work. At the leftside you'll see the new cinema; further left a new hotel, straight forward the new city hall, and just at the right you'll see a new construction for shops and appartments. Beneath there will be a parking.

A bus takes the workers to the construction site. They will come back to Satwa 10 hours later, having earned the equivalent of 12 euros.
As always the town is full of construction work and traffic rearrangements. This is just some kind of repair of the tram rails, but they have started digging train-tunnels under the entire city. And since it's mostly built on clay they have to dig holes from above.
I'm glad I don't live here anymore.

Nederland, Zuid-Holland, Nieuwe Waterweg, 28-09-2014; Functioneringssluiting Maeslantkering. De waterkering in de Nieuwe Waterweg wordt eenmaal per jaar, voordat het stormseizoen begint, getest. Tijdens het sluiten van de kering ligt alle scheepvaartverkeer naar de Rotterdamse haven stil.
De Maeslantkering sluit normaal gesproken alleen bij dreigende stromvloed en bij een waterstand van 3 meter of meer boven NAP. De kering, onderdeel van de Deltawerken, vormt samen met de Hartelkering de Europoortkering en beschermt Rotterdam en achterland bij extreme waterstanden.
