The dismantling of the Art Nouveau train shed (and of the terminus station) is on its way. Both will soon be replaced with new structures which will look pretty much like the old ones.

This is part of a huge renovation project which started in 1995. The complete infrastructure of the 13.3 km long monorail line had to be replaced after 100 years of service. About 95% of this undertaking have already been finished. As of July 2012 the dismantling and reconstruction of the eastern terminus of the line has begun. This includes the renewal of the train shed with the storage sidings. The shed will be replaced by a modern construction which will be designed more or less in the traditional style. It will be much longer than the existing hall.

Through the skeleton of a foreground building are the offices of the Northern & Shell print works on the site of a former timber and grain yard at Millwall Inner Dock. Printing was transferred from here to Luton in 2011 and planning permission obtained for a residential-led mixed use redevelopment, Westferry Printworks.

As you can see from my photographs work has resumed on the multi-million Greystones harbour and marina development project, with the first of more than 350 new homes expected to be offered for sale by April 2016. Because of the weather I did not photograph the new houses. The project has already seen the old Victorian era harbour replaced by a new structure with south and north piers, a large marina and ongoing work on five new clubhouses for sea scouts, divers, sailors, rowers and anglers. Also included in the project is a coastguard station, a new town square, a 16-acre public park, a new beach and marine-related shops and leisure facilities. It should be interesting to see if the ‘Public Areas’ are truly public and if the remain so for more than a year or two … I say this because there are many signs indicating that Fishing, Swimming or Jumping was not allowed. I will visit again later in the year, assuming that the weather improves.

September 2015 nennen. Mal sehen was dann stimmt!

Photograph taken by and copyright of my regular photostream contributor David and is posted here with very kind permission.

The area around my apartment has been effectively a building site for three or four years and I am really pleased by the fact the majority of projects will be completed by the end of this year.

The major project with the biggest impact on my living environment is the Luas Cross City project but the good news for me is that the working date for opening the new route to passengers is December 9th/10th. Of course I do not know if the service it self will have unexpected negative social impacts but I am hoping that if there are any they will be more than compensated for by the positives. It would appear that property prices are increasing but as I do not wish to move this is not really relevant to me [except for an increase in property tax]

There will be two tram stops on O’Connell Street.

The GPO Stop will be located within the median of O’Connell Street Lower, north of Middle Abbey Street and will be conveniently located to provide interchange with the Luas Red Line at the Abbey Street stop. This is an important description because it contains a bit of information that might surprise some people. The common belief is that the purpose of the Cross-City was to connect the Red Line and the Green Line services but this is not actually true from a service point of view because users will need to interchange between the lines near the GPO

Konica Hexanon AR 40mm 1.8

First shot with the Konica Hexanon AR 40mm 1.8 lens. Feels like a soft lens, not so sharp and it makes some crazy stuff with all kinds of lights. Think this will work better when a bit brighter outside. It was kind of winter-evening-lowlight, and that in combination with the craziest bokeh (even when in focus) I've ever seen made it quite hard to get what I wanted. I don't think it's a bad lens, just have to learn what conditions that works best for it

Nederland, Zuid-Holland, Nieuwe Waterweg, 28-09-2014; Functioneringssluiting Maeslantkering.

The waterway, leading to the Port of Rotterdam (at the horizon), is closed during the test.

The bridge in the foregournd has just been rebuilt. It will soon be reopened. The monorail station (which you have to imagine just left of the bridge) is still in the process of reconstruction. When it's finished it will resemble the original structure.
