Nederland, Zuid-Holland, Nieuwe Waterweg, 28-09-2014; Functioneringssluiting Maeslantkering. De waterkering in de Nieuwe Waterweg wordt eenmaal per jaar, voordat het stormseizoen begint, getest. Tijdens het sluiten van de kering ligt alle scheepvaartverkeer naar de Rotterdamse haven stil.
De Maeslantkering sluit normaal gesproken alleen bij dreigende stromvloed en bij een waterstand van 3 meter of meer boven NAP. De kering, onderdeel van de Deltawerken, vormt samen met de Hartelkering de Europoortkering en beschermt Rotterdam en achterland bij extreme waterstanden.

Rainclouds towards Ludza. One of the central streets in Rezekne under construction. Very little people walks on this street in a hot summer day. However, there were people inside the red church, getting married. And there was this "Taaa-daaa-da-daaa-da-da-ta-taaaa" typical wedding melody which fulfilled this ghostly street. That melody altogether with the rainclouds and empty street with few construction workers made a perfect unforgettable cityscape.
I don't know about you, but I always find archaeologists an insufferably smug, jumped-up tribe. All the real archaeology has been known about for years and thoroughly investigated. You'd think then, that archaeology would be a declining discipline. You'd be wrong; it prospers as never before. The great problem of the archaeologist's life is the one that afflicts estate agents or local authority community relations co-ordination officers or anyone else whose occupation is essentially parasitic ...to convince the rest of us that their work is important and necessary. Thus a bogus importance is attributed to the most insignificant archaeological "finds". Ideally, from the modern archaeologist's point of view, just about any object uncovered in the ground should be regarded as potential archaeology. There'd be no end to the government grants and local authority funding...
19th-century archaeologists, with their destructively "unscientific" methods, and the modern construction industry are the twin bogeymen of the archaeologist's world-view. Nothing gratifies the digsman's self-importance and vindictiveness more than to be able to expensively delay a major building project. Here work on a new office building on the Redcliffe side of Bristol Bridge is held up while archaeologists work their way over it with their sieves, yardsticks and lengths of string. No doubt some "important" Victorian cellars had been uncovered. The photograph was taken on Thursday 12th November 1981.

Der Wuppertaler Hauptbahnhof ist eigentlich ein klassizistischer Prachtbau. Es stammt aus dem Jahr 1848 und ist eines der ältesten erhaltenen Bahnhofsgebäude. Leider wurde der Bau über die Jahrzehnte durch diverse An- und Umbauten immer mehr entstellt. Jetzt läuft ein Projekt, an dessen Ende die mehr oder weniger vollständige Wiederherstellung des ursprünglichen Zustands stehen wird. Meine Fotoserie zeigt den Abbruch der 60er-Jahre-Vorbauten.
Wuppertal's main station is a classicist marvel from 1848. It is one of the oldest surviving structures of its kind. Unfortunately it has been marred by ugly additions and alterations. Right now a reconstruction project has been started. When it is finished, the historic structure will have regained its original form (more or less, that is). My photo series documents the destruction of the awning from the 1960s.

Am 12. Juni 2016 war ich mit Freunden im Berliner Bezirk Mittezwischen dem Kupfergraben sowie der Baustelle des „Berliner Schlosses“ bzw. „Humboldtforum“ unterwegs und habe dabei diese Aufnahmen gemacht.

The bridge in the foregournd has just been rebuilt. It will soon be reopened. The monorail station (which you have to imagine just left of the bridge) is still in the process of reconstruction. When it's finished it will resemble the original structure.
If you are interested in cameras and lenses: I took this series with an old manual focus Vivitar lens from the mid-70s (a 35mm 1:1.9 Auto Wide-Angle) on a Nikon D3000.
