Rural Indian women do a surprising amount of hard physical labour in the hot sun, from before dawn to late at night. This woman and her three colleagues were doing hard construction labour at the site of new road building. Their colourful and delicate traditional dress seemed to jar with the dirty sweaty work, but they seemed happy enough and engaged in friendly banter with me. They were also at ease with being photographed.

This set of photos was taken in April 2015 not 2011.

you might wonder: did the architect or the construction workers have an optical deflection when planning/building this?

no. everything is fine here.

The bridge in the foregournd has just been rebuilt. It will soon be reopened. The monorail station (which you have to imagine just left of the bridge) is still in the process of reconstruction. When it's finished it will resemble the original structure.

If you are interested in cameras and lenses: I took this series with an old manual focus Vivitar lens from the mid-70s (a 35mm 1:1.9 Auto Wide-Angle) on a Nikon D3000.

As you can see from my photographs work has resumed on the multi-million Greystones harbour and marina development project, with the first of more than 350 new homes expected to be offered for sale by April 2016. Because of the weather I did not photograph the new houses. The project has already seen the old Victorian era harbour replaced by a new structure with south and north piers, a large marina and ongoing work on five new clubhouses for sea scouts, divers, sailors, rowers and anglers. Also included in the project is a coastguard station, a new town square, a 16-acre public park, a new beach and marine-related shops and leisure facilities. It should be interesting to see if the ‘Public Areas’ are truly public and if the remain so for more than a year or two … I say this because there are many signs indicating that Fishing, Swimming or Jumping was not allowed. I will visit again later in the year, assuming that the weather improves.

The area around my apartment has been effectively a building site for three or four years and I am really pleased by the fact the majority of projects will be completed by the end of this year.

The major project with the biggest impact on my living environment is the Luas Cross City project but the good news for me is that the working date for opening the new route to passengers is December 9th/10th. Of course I do not know if the service it self will have unexpected negative social impacts but I am hoping that if there are any they will be more than compensated for by the positives. It would appear that property prices are increasing but as I do not wish to move this is not really relevant to me [except for an increase in property tax]

There will be two tram stops on O’Connell Street.

The GPO Stop will be located within the median of O’Connell Street Lower, north of Middle Abbey Street and will be conveniently located to provide interchange with the Luas Red Line at the Abbey Street stop. This is an important description because it contains a bit of information that might surprise some people. The common belief is that the purpose of the Cross-City was to connect the Red Line and the Green Line services but this is not actually true from a service point of view because users will need to interchange between the lines near the GPO

So, I worked for a contracting company for about a year. Here are some shots from the one time I broke out the camera on the job. I really enjoyed learning new things and getting to know these folks.

I am always pleasantly surprised whenever I get a roll of Acros back. I'm at a loss as to why I don't just always have the stuff on me at all times. Love the stuff!

This station is not yet in service. (The trains pass it without stopping). When it's finished the large renewal project of Wuppertal's unique suspension monorail will (almost) be done.

The new station "Werther Brücke" resembles the original one very closely.

Close-up shot of some reconstruction work in Ghent city-center.

But only for a while. The major reconstruction work which is going on at the moment will reshape the the most central area of Wuppertal. Here we are looking east towards the Intercity Hotel (right).

Vilnius is one of the two European Capitals of Culture this year! However, my pictures are from the last two years before and give an idea of the work that has been done to prepare the city for this year long event. By the way, no massive interventions like in Liverpool have been inflicted on Vilnius, because the city did not invest in a culture-led regeneration, but in its image as a European city in the European Union. So, all theatres were renovated and streets cleaned up etc. Not all of the renovation and conservation might be what I would have liked to see (some streets now look like any German street due to the material that was used for the renovation), but the spirit of this ECoC seems to match more the idea of such a year. So, I am looking forward to see what happens in Vilnius this year!

Oh, the other ECoC is Linz in Austria. Unfortuantely I do not know this city yet. It might be a good year to change this!
