The early Hawaiians used an adhesive gum from pāpala kēpau for repairing bowls.
The milky sap from pāpala kēpau was used for cuts. The cooked leaves were used to cure pāʻaoʻao (childhood disease with physical weakening) and for lepo paʻa (constipation).
Pāpala kēpau are truly fascinating plants with a sad, but interesting, cultural history. A sinistral use for the sticky fruit was to trap native birds. [6] The captured victims provided feathers for the strikingly colorful cloaks (capes), helmets, lei, images and kāhili. Birds such as 'ō'ō and mamo were plucked of their few moulting yellow feathers and set free to grow more for the next season. However, this was not the case with the 'i'iwi and 'apapane which were covered with red- or green-colored feathers and would not have survived the plucking. They were captured, plucked and eaten.
The former generic name Pisonia is named for William Piso (ca. 1611-1678), Dutch physician, pharmacist, botanist, and early writer on medicinal plants of Brazil.
The specific epithet umbellifera is from the Latin umbelliferum, umbel-bearing or shade carrying, from umbrella (altered from umbell), Latin for parasol, and named for the large leaves of this species.

So here's what I swear by: my morning smoothie ingredients which MUST include flax seed. Why? Now for my disclaimer: I don't buy the brand shown any more, although I did at first. Now I buy it in bulk in the supermarket and store the seeds in my refrigerator for a longer shelf life. Flax seed oil will go rancid very quickly, so I don't bother with that, and the seeds have additional healthful qualities not found in the oil. My other magic smootie ingredients are greek yogurt (so high in protein!, zero fat) and pomegranate juice along with blueberries (frozen usually) and whatever fresh fruit catches my fancy.

Your abdomen is made up of layers upon layers of different muscle groups, tissues, and organs. Of the inguinal hernias, there are type different types:
Indirect: Hernia that enters the inguinal canal
Direct: Hernia that does not enter the inguinal canal
Most people develop this type of hernia due to improper lifting mechanics when lifting weights or other heavy objects.
Inguinal hernias are more common in men, yet are not limited to adults either. The primary characteristic of an inguinal hernia is a lump or bulge located on either side of the pubic bone when the thigh meets the groin. You may notice this more when you cough, stand, or strain and may be painful during these activities. The lump may also disappear when you lay down.
It is important to note that one of the primary dangers of an inguinal hernia is strangulated. Although many hernias are asymptomatic and can be managed without experiencing much pain, a strangulated hernia can cause severe pain, nausea, vomiting, and may inhibit your ability to perform a bowel movement. If this ever occurs, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.
Femoral Hernias
A femoral hernia typically occurs through an opening in the abdominal floor in a space that allows for the femoral artery and vein to pass from the abdomen and into the upper leg. Femoral hernias are a groin hernia that tend to occur more frequently in women than men due to their wider pelvic structure.
Like an inguinal hernia, a femoral hernia may pose potentially life-threatening health risks. Femoral hernias are dangerous because they are often asymptomatic until you need immediate medical attention. If you notice a lump around the crease of your groin or in the upper thigh, it is best to have a doctor take a look at it.
Obturator Hernias
Obturator hernias are the least common of the three pelvic floor, lower abdominal hernias. However, they are commonly found in postpartum people who have experienced multiple pregnancies or in people who have lost significant weight. The obturator canal (another connection between the abdomen and the leg) may herniate causing the obturator artery, vein, and nerve to protrude into the upper leg of the individual.
Anterior Abdominal Wall Hernias
Your abdominal wall is made up of two sets of mirrored muscle groups on either side of your body. These muscle groups include the rectus abdominis muscles (your 6-pack), the internal and external obliques, and the transversalis muscles.
Umbilical Hernia
An umbilical hernia is the second most common hernia. They typically occur more often in children, but can affect adults as well. Umbilical hernias occur when fat or part of the intestine pushes through the muscles near the belly button.
Women are more likely than men to get an umbilical hernia. Your chances are also higher if you:
In adults, an umbilical hernia is more common in women. You may be at a higher risk of an umbilical hernia if you are:
overweight
experienced multiple pregnancies
have a chronic cough

Umbilical hernias are often asymptomatic as well and, in newborns, typically resolve on their own by the time the child is one. Surgical treatment may only be necessary if the hernia becomes too large or strangulated.
Epigastric Hernia
Epigastric hernias occur due to a weakness or compromised midline in the rectus abdominis muscles (also known as the linea alba) between the breastbone and the belly button. Often, the weakness goes unnoticed until later in life and may result in herniated pieces of bowel, fat, or omentum (fatty lining of the colon). Epigastric hernias may be mistaken as diastasis recti, another condition affecting the rectus abdominis and linea alba.
Spigelian Hernia
A spigelian hernia is very rare and typically occurs on the outside of the rectus abdominis muscles.
Incisional Hernia
An incisional hernia is another common type of hernia that may occur due to a prior abdominal surgery. Although during a surgical procedure the muscles are typically repaired, the stress of the surgery and the scarring may present as a weak spot in the abdominal wall, thus, allowing part of an organ or tissues to herniate through the incision.

A hiatal hernia is different from the aforementioned types of hernias. A hiatal hernia involves a weakening or compromised section of the diaphragm, a sheet of muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. In this same area of your body, your esophagus passes through into an opening in the diaphragm.
A hiatal hernia occurs when a part of the upper stomach herniates through the diaphragm. In most cases, a lump is not apparent, but you may experience several painful or uncomfortable symptoms: heartburn, chest pain, or you may even experience a sour taste in your mouth.
Hiatal hernias are more common in pregnant women or in people 50 and older. If your symptoms are causing you pain, lifestyle changes or prescription antacids or drugs may help ease symptoms of acid reflux. In some cases, however, you may never feel any pain or discomfort.
Paraesophageal Hernias

External Uses
The fresh juice of Dandelion is applied externally to fight bacteria and help heal wounds. The plant has an antibacterial action, inhibiting the growth of Staphococcus aureus, pneumococci, meningococci, Bacillus dysenteriae, B. typhi, C. diphtheriae, proteus. The latex contained in the plant sap can be used to remove corns and warts.
Internal Uses
Dandelion is also used for the treatment of the gall bladder, kidney and urinary disorders, gallstones, jaundice, cirrhosis, hypoglycemia, dyspepsia with constipation, edema associated with high blood pressure and heart weakness, chronic joint and skin complaints, gout, eczema and acne. As a tonic, Dandelion strengthens the kidneys. An infusion of the root encourages the steady elimination of toxins from the body. Dandelion is a powerful diuretic but does not deplete the body of potassium.
Research is revealing that the many constituents of Dandelion including Taraxacin, Taraxacoside, Inulin, Phenolic acids, Sesquiterpene lactones, Triterpenes, Coumarins, Catortenoids and Minerals, mainly Potassium and calcium, are very valuable in curing a number of disorders and illnesses. Dandelion is traditionally used as a tonic and blood purifier, for constipation, inflammatory skin conditions, joint pain, eczema and liver dysfunction, including liver conditions such as hepatitis and jaundice.
Other Uses
Dandelions can be beneficial to a garden ecosystem as well as to human health.
When placed in a paper bag with unripe fruit, the flowers and leaves of Dandelion release ethylene gas ripening the fruit quickly. A liquid plant food is made from the root and leaves. A dark red dye is obtained from Dandelion root. A cosmetic skin lotion made from the appendages at the base of the leaf blades distilled in water, is used to clear the skin and is effective in fading freckles.

Dandelion is a perennial herb thought to be introduced from Europe and Asia. It is now naturalized throughout the Northern Hemisphere. No one is sure exactly how the dandelion has spread so widely, and there is some debate on the origin of the plant.
Dandelion is found growing in pastures, lawns, waste ground, sand, rocks, even cracks in concrete. From a thick, long, tap root, dark brown outside, white and milky white inside, grow long jaggedly toothed leaves, shiny, dark to light green and growing in the shape of a rosette close to the ground. A purplish flower-stalks rise straight from the center, it is leafless, smooth, hollow and bears a single bright golden yellow, furry looking flower which blooms almost anytime of the year. When mature the seed in the flowers heads are round and fuzzy, carried by the wind to be germinated where ever they land.
How to Grow Dandelion
Dandelion is a very easily grown plant, it succeeds in most soils. It becomes quite large when cultivation, the leaves reaching a foot or more in length. Dandelion is often cultivated as an edible salad crop and as a medicinal herb plant.

In Derbyshire, the juice of the Dandelion stalk is applied to remove warts.

If there are Painful cramps occurring in your stomach it may also indicate that a tumor has perforate and it is a medical emergency. The most common symptom of the advanced stages is the development of an irregular abdominal mass with a hard texture. In some cases, such as in transverse and sigmoid colon cancers, the mass can cause pain even at light pressure.
Patients in the late stages of the disease may also experience anemia or the heightened absorption of toxins. These may be accompanied by edema, hepatomegaly, ascites, cachexia, and hypoproteinemia, among many others.

4.Blood Test for Thyroid Disease

If with other symptoms the quantity of hormones is less then thyroid gland is contracted and it is hypothyroidism
? Causes of thyroid diseases
It is due to deficiency of iodine in food. It is seen among those people who eat only cooked food and do not eat natural food. Natural food provides necessary iodine content which gets destroyed when cooked. Mental and emotional tension, hereditary, erroneous died and disturbed lifestyle.
? Treatment of thyroid diseases
1.For first 5 days only juices (coconut water, cabbage, carrot, beetroot, pineapple, orange, apple, grapes juices etc.) Should be taken.
2.Thereafter for 3 days fruits and sesame milk should be consumed.
3.Then adopt normal diet which should include green leafy vegetables, fruits, salad sprouts, etc. In ample quantity.
4.Atleast for a year half of the food should consist of fruits, salad and sprout foods.
5.Lotus seeds, makhana, water chestnut (singhara) are useful.
6.Sugar, roasted and fried product, tea, coffee, liquor, tinned products etc. Are very harmful and should not be consumed at all.
7.In a cup full of spinach juice one spoon of honey should be added and ¼ spoon of cumin seeds (jeera) powder be mixed and taken every night before sleeping.
8.In a glass of water soak two spoons of dry coriander and in the morning mash it and boil till the quantity is reduced to 1/4 and drink daily on an empty stomach.
9.Daily gargle with saline water.
? Physical Treatment
1.Mud pack, enema, hib bath, etc. Will detoxify the body.
2.On the throat apply wet sheet pack and mud pack.
3.Do not permit to get tired
4.Relax completely
5.Sleep as much as is necessary
6.Remain away from physical, emotional and mental tension.
7.To keep the endocrine glands healthy do yoga asanas.
8.Shavasana, Yog nidra, Suptpavanmuktasana, Matsyasana, Suptavajrasana and neck exercises must be done.
9.Pranayama are very important, do Ujjayi and bhramari Pranayama.

Decreasing your risk of heart attack. Exercise such as brisk walking for three hours a week — or just half an hour a day — is associated with a 30% to 40% lower risk of heart disease in women. (Based on the 20-year Nurses' Health Study of 72,000 female nurses.)
Boosting "good" cholesterol – the level of high-density lipoproteins (HDL). Physical activity helps reduce low-density lipoproteins (LDL or "bad" cholesterol) in the blood, which can cause plaque buildup along the artery walls — a major cause of heart attacks.
Lowering your risk of stroke. Regular, moderate exercise equivalent to brisk walking for an hour a day, five days a week, can cut the risk of stroke in half, according to a Harvard study of more than 11,000 men.
Reducing your risk of breast cancer and type 2 diabetes. The Nurses' Health Study also links regular activity to risk reductions for both these diseases. In another study, people at high risk of diabetes cut their risk in half by combining consistent exercise like walking with lower fat intake and a 5% to 7% weight loss.
Avoiding your need for gallstone surgery. Regular walking or other physical activity lowers the risk of needing gallstone surgery by 20% to 31%, found a Harvard study of more than 60,000 women ages 40 to 65.
Protecting against hip fracture. Consistent activity diminishes the risk of hip fracture, concludes a study of more than 30,000 men and women ages 20 to 93.

The Negro coffee or Stinking weed is found throughout India, growing abundantly on waste lands immediately after the rains. It is an offensively odorous undershrub with furrowed subglabrous branches. Leaflets are 3-5 pairs. Flowers are yellow, arranged in short peduncled few flowered racemes. Fruits are cylindrical or compressed, transversely septate glabrous pods containing 20-30 seeds. Seeds are ovoid, compressed, hard, smooth and skin dark olive green or pale brown.
The plant is useful in vitiated conditions of vata and kapha, cough, bronchitis, constipation, fever, epilepsy and convulsions. The roots are useful in inflammation, diabetes, strangury, elephantiasis, ringworm, colic, flatulence, dyspepsia, epilepsy, convulsions and scorpion sting. The leaves and seeds are used in leprosy, erysipelas, pruritus, wounds and ulcers, cough, bronchitis, hiccough, asthma, pharyngodynia, fever and hydrophobia (Warrier et al, 1994). A paste made out of roots is considered as a specific remedy for ringworm, eczema and other skin ailments (Aiyer amd Kolammal, 1964). Bark, roots, leaves and seeds are used in medicine. The drug is an ingredient of Surasadi taila (Sivarajan et al, 1994).
The plant contains emodin, physcion, chrysophanol, sitosterol and a xanthone- cassiollin. Seeds contain phytosterolin and 3-methyl-6-methoxy-1, 8-dihydroxy anthraquinone. Flowers contain physcion-b-D-glucopyranoside. Roots contain phytosterol, 1, 8-dihydroxy anthraquinone, a-hydroxy anthraquinone, quercetin, 1, 4, 5-trihydroxy anthroquinone derivatives, namely, islandicin, helminthosporon and xanthorin, a xanthone derivative-cassiollin. Leaves contain flavonoids- matteucinol-7-rhamnoside and jaceidin-7-rhamnoside. The plant is febrifuge, purgative, diuretic and tonic. Seed and leaf are bitter, sweet, acrid, thermogenic and depurative and used in skin diseases. Root is an antidote for snakebite (Husain et al, 1992).

Postpartum physical therapy can be a great way to restore function and strength in your core and pelvic floor muscles. Giving birth places a strain on your body and it is no surprise that many postpartum people experience pelvic pain and discomfort for weeks to months after delivery. Even after the typical 8 week recovery time, many women may require more time or a pelvic floor workout plan to help get them back on their feet, especially women who delivered via C-section.
Although you may never look how you did before your pregnancy, physical therapy post pregnancy can help relieve symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse, diastasis recti, and other postpartum symptoms.

What Helps with Postpartum Pain?
Physical therapy can be a great way to help women recover from postpartum issues. However, not all exercise routines or core training workouts are created equal. Restoring your body’s function is not something to do quickly or forcefully. Exercise is important, but resting and pacing yourself are far more vital to your recovery than rushing it. Postpartum recovery requires a specific re-training of your body to regain strength and integrity. Long-term functionality is better than getting slim fast.
Exercise
As you begin to exercise postpartum, it is important that your focus be on the major muscle groups affected by your delivery. Short spurts of slow, simple stretches and yoga poses are a great place to begin. Shoot for around 10 to 20 minutes a day of light exercise and stretching. Many exercises can be done during your recovery, but it’s important that you don’t overexert yourself before the 8 week mark is up (and for some women, even longer). As you continue to regain strength and functionality, you can gradually increase your workout time and intensity.
Rest
If I could have a dollar for every person who wished they had rested more in order to spare themselves injury. Rest is so important for healing your body postpartum and ensuring that you do not damage your core and your pelvic floor. We recommend getting back into exercise at least 8 weeks postpartum, but even then, easing into it is key. The “I want to get my body back” sentiment can be very harmful to a recovering body.
What’s the Best Pelvic Floor Exercise?
There is no one exercise that tops all of the others when treating your pelvic floor. However, one of the most important techniques you can implement in your recovery and in your physical therapy is breathing.
Breathing properly is one of the most beneficial techniques I teach my clients in RYC. This pattern of breathing uses ribcage expansion instead of belly expansion for an effective and efficient strategy in restoring pelvic floor function. breathing mechanics are the most important element to any exercise routine. Many people don’t realize that the way they breathe can greatly affect the effectiveness of their regimen. In some cases, improper breathing mechanics can cause a lot of physical harm. Upper lung and rib cage breathing can reduce DRA expansion, pelvic tension, and lower back pain.
What Exercises are Bad for Pelvic Floor?
There are many exercises that can be damaging to your healing body. While in recovery (for at least the first 6 months) avoid strenuous abdominal exercises that apply unnecessary pressure on your belly and midline (i.e. sit-ups, planks, crunches, squats, etc). It is also important that you avoid heavy lifting or twisting in ways that may affect your abdominal wall (i.e. oblique curls, roll-ups).
If yoga is a part of your physical therapy routine, try to avoid yoga poses such as backbends and other spinal extensions as they too increase intra-abdominal pressure.
It's a beautiful day at the local Star Wars Convention.
