Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. In the beautiful low winter sunlight I just loved the way that the stripes on his jacket followed the line of the railing. Enjoy!

Fonteinhof Castle farm

The Fonteinhof castle farm is connected by a centuries-old linden lane to the 13th-century St Nicholas and Dionysius church of Gotem. At that time, the lord of the castle had to build the church and appoint and pay the parish priest. This makes it the only place in Limburg where the gate of the church and the gate of the Fonteinhof are directly opposite each other, ideal for walking to the church with the family in suite as they used to do. The current gatehouse dates from 1729 and was then the revenue property of the mayors of Hasselt. In its heyday, Fonteinhof Castle covered about 1,500 hectares and they had about 30 farm horses. Kasteelhoeve Fonteinhof grew from a 17th-century core and evolved into the present complex during the 18th to 20th centuries.

At the end of the 19th century, a daughter of the Briers family married knight de Lamine de Bex from Liège, who was an engineer. This gentleman developed fruit presses and so the famous Looza fruit juice was born in 1914 on the castle farm Fonteinhof in Gotem. It was located here until 1936. In the 1980s, Looza was sold and then the decay of the Fonteinhof began.

Between 2003 and 2010, the farm complex was restored and repurposed as a hotel, banquet hall and event complex.

-------------------

(My hometown series)

When I left Ísafjörður many years ago my intention was always to come back. I live in Canada now and I have realized that I will probably never live in Ísafjörður again. All my childhood memories are connected more or less to this small town so this place will always have a place in my heart. I went to Ísafjörður this summer and because I don't have many photos from this town I made sure I would take some photos while I was there. I took photos of houses and the surroundings and my intention was to keep them in my personal folder but I decided to make an album with some of these photos and post them here on Flickr.

I've noticed Mistletoe growing increasingly in UK trees, so I read up about it and learnt that it's due in part to an influx of continental blackcaps from Germany that have started overwintering in Britain, with many thousands now spending their winters here.

'Blackcaps are migratory warblers that are becoming regular winter visitors to our bird tables. Berries, including those of mistletoe, are an essential part of their diet. On eating the white flesh of the mistletoe berry, the birds wipe their bills on twigs and branches, leaving behind the seed. If the seed is deposited on a host tree and manages to take hold, a mistletoe plant might germinate on the branch. It seems that blackcaps are more efficient at spreading mistletoe seeds than other birds, such as the mistle thrush, which also feed on the berries.' - www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2018/12/where-does-mistleto....

'According to the Anglo-Saxons, kissing under the mistletoe was connected to the legend of Freya, Norse Goddess of love, beauty and fertility. According to legend, a man had to kiss any young girl who, without realizing it, found herself accidentally under a sprig of mistletoe hanging from the ceiling.' www.thewhitegoddess.co.uk/articles/mythology_folklore/mis....

Today it was one of those sunny autumn days with a crispy air and bright blue sky. In days like this I feel always that it's a little gift from universe so I went out for a walk in a forest near my house.

One thing I love about photography is that It's an awesome way to connect with nature and to just enjoy the silence, the colours and the peace. ( even when it sometimes means freezing your fingers, muddy jeans and hair full of leafs)

I'm quite proud of how this image turned out because very little editing went into this one, only a slight contrast adjustment and little expansion was all I did, so It makes me feel good :) maybe I'm finally moving in some direction with my photography.

Have great weekend everyone! :)

“Hello Posh Bear, I’d stay out of Ellie’s way for a sleep or two if I were you, and that applies to any of you other bears. She is not a happy elephant.” Said Bertie shaking his head sadly.

“Really? Why, what is wrong?”

“Well, she says that when she went to the moon this time, it had been moved again.”

“That is not good I agree, but hoomans do daft things like that. I have heard that sometimes they even try and cover it up with the orange thing.”

“I know, but what made it worse was that by the time she reached to where it had been put, they had taken it away and hidden it again, so there was no moon there. All those chocolate drops in fuel wasted and she had to come back with no cheese, no popcorn, and no chocolate from the lake.”

“Oh, my word, that wouldn’t have pleased her at all. I dare say she also wasted decent sleeping time too making the trip.”

“Precisely. She is asleep now and said she intended to have words with the man after she had caught up with sleep.” Said Bertie.

“Do you think she will, Bertie?” Asked Barnaby.

“Probably not, for the chances are she’ll forget all about it by the time she wakes up.”

“Do you think it is the man’s fault, Bertie?” Asked Sky.

“Almost certainly, he is always moving things about. Plus, have you noticed that he has had his fur cut again. Why ever would any normal hooman or bear want to have their fur cut short? Bonkers!”

“I noticed that, Sky. He does move things about and then he can’t find them when he wants them. As for cutting his fur, I thought that was just a hot day thing but it seems not.” Said Bertie.

“Look at him now, there he is walking back and forwards to various rooms with bags and things just to take our picture and be disappointed yet again.” Said Barnaby.

“I never could understand why he didn’t just leave everything where it was from one try to the next. Always clearing things away, then sometimes he takes things off shelves and gets that stuff out and makes everything shine. What is that all about? He leaves it for a few sleeps to collect that nice dull and dusty look and then changes his mind and makes it all shine again. He is one confused hooman.” Said Bertie.

“Give him credit fellas, he has managed to get the box thingy connected to the three legs and it didn’t fall off. Here we go, watch out he’ll put us in place and then go back to his box thingy and stare at that only to return here and change things.” Said Posh Bear.

“Imagine, us put on a window sill. Super stars for his pictures reduced to this. I suppose he did try other places first.” Said Bertie.

“He does suffer for his art.” Giggled Sky.

“No Sky, it is us that suffer, but anything for a quiet life. Let us hope that when Ellie wakes up, she had forgotten all about the moon, so whatever you do, don’t mention it to her.” Said Posh Bear.

“No worries about that, we’ll not say a word…” Giggled Sky “Just to be sure though, perhaps a jar of honey each would make sure we forgot all about it, Posh.”
