A westbound Blue Island (Chicago) to Cedar Rapids train passes the old Rock Island RR station at namesake city Rock Island. That is the station's roofline and clock tower on the right. The power is sitting on what was once known as Terminal Junction and had numerous hand throw switches and multiple diamond crossings and tracks that hosted trains of the Rock Island RR, Davenport Rock Island & Northwestern Ry, Milwaukee Road and the Chicago Burlington & Quincy RR. Now days it is just the one track in the foreground connected by a single junction switch. But currently it is used by a variety of trains operated by the Iowa Interstate, BNSF and CPKC.

Piatra Neamț is a mid-sized city (80k pop.) în central-north-eastern România, where we spent the first week of our România-trip. The history of the railway here is quite interesting, because across the first half century years of existance of the trains here, it got many different iterations.
The first line reached the city in 1885 and was a meter-gauge line from Bacău. It was reconstructed to standard gauge a mere 8 years later, which seems to be the case with a lot of Romanian railway lines.
This line originally terminated at the station Veche in the eastern part of the city (roughly around the current street Gara Veche - meaning 'Old Station'). Nothing remains of the old station because already in 1913 the one currently in use was opened, closer to the city center. From there, the line towards Bicaz was constructed further with the works being finished by 1951.
And so, with the morning train 5472 from Bicaz to Piatra Neamț, with the coaches later being connected to a direct interregio service to Bacău, 60-1335 is seen arriving at the terminus, passing the beautiful semaphore signal.

the fountain creates a wall of white noise, a chaotic spectacle of water and light. it is a public performance. behind it, a figure walks through the mist, a ghost in the machine. in the foreground, another figure sits. he does not see the spectacle. his world is a small, glowing rectangle in his hands. he is physically present, but mentally absent. he is surrounded by the roar of the water, but the silence between him and the world is absolute.
