This is, by far, the most comfortable part of the couch. I remember when I was little I would always be in this position whenever I was sitting on my parents' couch. I would watch TV with my head dangling over the side of the couch thinking it all looked so much more fun upside down. I couldn't do this with our old couch, but now that I've found that I can... I'm always in this position. I fell asleep like this yesterday. Heh. I'm pretty hot, I know.
Today has been the first day since I don't even know when that I didn't nap. Woo! Granted, I chugged coffee and had some other extra help, but still... no naps. With that being said, I'm freakin' exhausted and am going to pass out... right... now.
The Despenser Retable in St Lukes Chapel is one of the rarest survivals of English medieval art, a complete five-panel altarpiece of late 14th century date hidden for centuries after the Reformation by being used as the underside of a table!
This especially beautiful piece now resides in St Luke's Chapel off the south ambulatory and is in remarkably good condition, with only a small strip along the top of each panel lost (restored in the central panel). The colours are delightfully vibrant, and give a sense of the huge volume of such wonderful things that once enlivened churches across the land, denied us by our turbulent religious history.
Images from a brief revisit to one of my favourite places, Norwich Cathedral, scene of some of my earliest memories and what inspired my interest in church architecture at an early age. There had been some changes since my last visit, with the new hostry building (an empty ruin previously) to the west of the cloister now serving as the main entry for visitors. The weather/lighting could have been better, alas!
Norwich Cathedral is one of England's finest buildings and greatest cathedrals; It is one of the most complete examples of Romanesque architecture in the country (arguably the least altered Norman cathedral), has the second tallest spire in Britain and it's vaulted ceilings contain the largest collection of carved medieval roof bosses anywhere.
Surprisingly for so grand a building it is relatively inconspicuous from the city itself, standing on low ground and concealed within the old Cathedral Close, an enclave of tradition and relative peace apart from the noise of the city beyond it's gates. It's monastic past is much in evidence, particularly the magnificent cloisters, the largest and some of the finest in the country.
As stated most of the building dates from the 12th century and therefore exudes that solid Norman aesthetic, massively built but still graceful and beautiful. The central tower is unusually designed with arcading and windows beneath a double row of oculi, the tapering spire above it is a 15th century addition, aside from this the only major alterations to the ancient fabric externally are the tall 14th century clerestorey and flying buttresses of the choir and the gothic enlargement of various nave and aisle windows, principally the great perpendicular west window that takes up most of the west facade.
The interior is predominantly Norman too, except for the elaborate gothic vaulted ceilings that cover nave, choir and both transepts with a uniform design (originally these higher celings would have been of wood, stone vaults were added in the late medieval period to protect against fire, a job they performed well when the transept roofs were hit by incendiary bombs in World War II). These vaults display an unrivalled collection of narrative roof bosses, carved and coloured with Old & New Testament scenes (mainly in the nave and transepts, the choir bosses are mostly decorated with the emblem of their donor, Bishop Goldwell).
The cathedral has surprisingly few major monuments and sculptures compared to most of it's peers, but does have more exceptional medieval art in it's 14th & 15th century painted altarpieces, the most important being the Despenser Retable in the south east chapel, a unique survivial, hidden from danger during the Reformation & Civil War by being converted to the underside of a table. Further altarpieces here are formed of salvaged panels from redundant city churches. The medieval choir stalls also survive with a full set of carved misericords.
The stained glass by contrast is mostly Victorian and quite mixed (very little medieval glass survives). Striking modern glass by Keith New and John Hayward was installed in the north transept to commemorate the Millennium.
The cloisters to the south of the nave are one of my favourite places, all four walks are covered by yet more vaulted ceilings with over 400 more carved and repainted bosses (lower down and much easier to study than those inside the main body of the cathedral) spanning the long period of the cloister's construction throughout the 14th & !5th centuries.
Norwich Cathedral is special to me as being the subject of my earliest memories, recalling having been taken around the cathedral and cloisters as a 3 year old, which left a vivid impression on me and lead me to pursue an interest in church art and architecture years later, ultimately towards my present career in stained glass. Norwich Cathedral will always therefore have a touch of that nostalgic magic to me.

Claire making light of her current condition by doing her best Walking Dead walker imitation.
Day 4. I hate how I feel a tiredness and slight shortness of breath ALL THE TIME. I'd settle for being able to control the flow of drool from my mouth to the floor and/or my panties. Would also be nice to have feeling in my forehead (which actually had some air in it that I squeezed out by accident, then it itched a lot for a min or 2) or in my lower lip. Molly Jane Powers said it will be around for months. All my lower teeth feel like after I had my radial cyst removals when the nerves reattach...I remember constantly rubbing my teeth with paper towels in order to make them feel SOMETHING. Nerve attacks, basically. Well this feels like that. But everywhere. Used a straw without holding my lips together with a hand! Woo!
Zombie apocalypse.

He had a lot of before and after pictures for Claire to look at, and a 6-day stay in their clinic to include food and board was included in the price. It was a really nice facility, and Carolyn was glad that Claire had chosen 2Pass over PriyaMed in India, after seeing CT scans confirming friends had paid for procedures that were never even done (PriyaMed suuuuucks!). Dr. Bart and the entire 2Pass staff, including the resident who lived at the clinic and took care of all the patients, Petra, were very nice and friendly. We absolutely have complaints about the experience -- the implants that made my mouth look worse for months, only to threaten my life, creating two more additional surgeries for me to undergo and recover from. The nerve damage on my chin, which I think could have been avoided if Dr. Bart didn't insist that CT scans are unnecessary while any upscale FFS place does CT scans. The complication under my eye which literally exploded out of my face, but only 14 months later. Letting me leave without my chin strap. Sending me home when I wasn't really fit to fly yet. Having a big wooden table with an irregular shape that people trip over, which is very easy when your eyes are sewn shut. Not shaving as much off my forehead quite as I'd hoped (but still an amazing forehead job!). Not doing as much jaw work as I'd hoped (and that nerve damage). Not including a neck lift in my package when it absolutely should have been (it's so saggy now & it has been indicated as something I should do by another FFS surgeon). The surgery was good -- I've had people tell me in private that my FFS is the best FFS they've ever seen (wow) -- but it wasn't A+ for us. It was more like a A- or B+ for results, B+ for price, C for choosing the right procedures to perform on me, and a C- for complications endured. We felt like there was a lot of room for improvement in our experience as well. Like they don't say what time of day to arrive, and only let you check into your room a few hours before your appointment. So we ended up being several hours late because of this -- they could simply let people in 6-8 hrs before their appointment, then we would have been able to aim earlier and not be late. But at the same time...no regrets. This surgery was the best thing to ever happen to me. I'm very happy with what 2Pass did for me. I just wish things had gone better.

All you need to make this DIY spot cooler is a bucket, some PVC pipe, a fan, and ice, reusable ice packs, and a frozen gallon jug of water—the homemade air conditioner was able to lower the temperature of a small room by only 2° to 3° F, and within 30 minutes the room temperature began to rise again.
The frozen jug of water was the best for cooling, apparently because it allows enough air to circulate around the jug to sufficiently cool it. And while the ice cubes initially produced the lowest air temperature, once they started melting the temperature measured outside the duct (pipe or cup) wasn’t much different than the room temperature. Again, the room temperature began to rise in 30 minutes.

The song was originally included on a Virgin Records sampler for the launch of Virgin Records America. In the spring of 1988 it was released as a single to test Abdul's commercial appeal. "Knocked Out" proved to be very successful for a low budget single: it became a Top 10 R&B hit.
