A shot from Dartmoor National Park from a couple of weeks back. Not the sharpest shot you will ever see, the wind and rain and poor ground saw to that. I was really captivated by this copse of trees in a little known area of the Park. I found their arrangement fascinating, and combined with the colors and textures, I thought it had something. I have played around with varying degrees of colour saturation and contrast, but kept coming back to a lower contrast and greater midtoned image. I liked the slightly eerie feel of the tree trunks, caught in a half light. It was raining at the time I took this, so the atmosphere was thick and heavy, but the colours of the Autumn leaves glowed and shone out. This might be a case of the memory of the place clouding my judgment of this shot. I remeber it as a truly magical moment.

Vintage 20"Composition Unmark Doll Miss Charming?Brite Star?Shirley Temple Style
1930'S EEGEE - HORSMAN OR IDEAL TOY CO
Height: 20in
Note from a seller: Here is a beautiful big 20" doll I believe to be a Miss Charming, Brite Star, Miss Movie or similar doll to look like and compete with Shirley Temple. Probably made by E. Goldberger Co (Eegee), Horsman, Arranbee or even Ideal Toy Co. as one of their knock-off dolls in the early 1930's. I'm not sure who she is as she is not marked but darling and a close ringer to Shirley Temple. She is all composition. She has a very nice dark blonde replaced wig still in the original Shirley type curly set and made by Monique. It is not glued on but fits her very nicely. Her original wig was stapled on as you can see by residue staple holes on her head. This little girl measures 20" tall. She does have a few flaws but being 80+ years old and a play doll she has held up well and in excellent condition. Her face is beautiful with an open mouth and little white teeth but her lips have some rubs with a little loss of color. She has very nice light brown real lashes with just a few missing from the center of the right eye, painted under lashes & brows and heavy eye shadow. Her big amber brown eyes are clear and function well. She does have a little glue residue from her old wig on her face and head, a tiny paint chip on her left cheek and a 1/2" split at the neck in the seam below her left ear. Her body is nice with all fingers and toes and just some very light paint rubs. I really don't see any crazing. She has some blackish rubs on her right wrist where a bracelet or similar item was attached and at her ankles where her socks rubbed.
She has on a vintage replaced dress of pale pink organdy in the Shirley "Baby Take A Bow" dance dress style with a little flower applique on the ruffled collar with a very full skirt trimmed with a pale mint green silk ribbon at the waist. It opens in the back and fastens with snaps. It fits perfect and looks adorable on her!
She is also wearing pink panties with relaxed elastic, a white cotton half underslip trimmed with lace, white rayon knit socks that do have a few holes in them but are clean and I believe original, vintage cream (may have originally been white) suede shoes with a gold medalion inset at the front which are all intact.

Compositionally Challenged Week 17 Silence. I went to Point Pelee for sunrise, and I spotted that the moon was low. I checked online, and I saw that the moon was about to set. I went over to the west beach and took some pics before going back to the marsh (facing east). I was the only person at the marsh and the only person at the west beach, so it was very peaceful and quiet.

The original - rather lackluster and anemic, tho the composition is ok. It does feature my carved olivewood vase, a gift from a friend in Israel.
One of a series of digital abstractions inspired by the Constructivist movement begun in Russia.
Constructivism was a post-First World War outgrowth of Russian Futurism, and particularly of the 'corner-counter reliefs' of Vladimir Tatlin, which had been exhibited in 1915. The term itself would be coined by the sculptors Antoine Pevsner and Naum Gabo, who developed an industrial, angular approach to their work, while its geometric abstraction owed something to the Suprematism of Kasimir Malevich. ....the theorists Alexei Gan, Boris Arvatov and Osip Brik would arrive at a definition of Constructivism as the combination of faktura: the particular material properties of the object, and tektonika, its spatial presence. Initially the Constructivists worked on three-dimensional constructions as a first step to participation in industry: the OBMOKhU (Society of Young Artists) exhibition showed these three dimensional compositions, by Rodchenko, Stepanova, Karl Ioganson and the Stenberg Brothers. Later the definition would be extended to designs for two-dimensional works such as books or posters, with montage and factography becoming important concepts.
These works are most influenced by Vladimir Tatlin's 'tower'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:TatlinMonument3int.jpg
"The canonical work of Constructivism was Vladimir Tatlin's proposal for the Monument to the Third International (1919) which combined a machine aesthetic with dynamic components celebrating technology such as searchlights and projection screens. Gabo publicly criticized Tatlin's design saying Either create functional houses and bridges or create pure art, not both. This had already led to a major split in the Moscow group in 1920 when Gabo and Pevsner's Realistic Manifesto asserted a spiritual core for the movement. This was opposed to the utilitarian and adaptable version of Constructivism held by Tatlin and Rodchenko. Tatlin's work was immediately hailed by artists in Germany as a revolution in art: a 1920 photo shows George Grosz and John Heartfield holding a placard saying 'Art is Dead - Long Live Tatlin's Machine Art', while the designs for the tower were published in Bruno Taut's magazine Fruhlicht.
