The Scaled Composites Model 348 WhiteKnightTwo (WK2) is a jet-powered carrier aircraft which will be used to launch the SpaceShipTwo spacecraft. It is being developed by Scaled Composites as the first stage of Tier 1b, a two-stage to suborbital-space manned launch system. WK2 is based on the successful mothership to SpaceShipOne, White Knight, which itself is based on Proteus.

Virgin Galactic has ordered two WK2s.[2] Together WK2 and SS2 form the basis for Virgin Galactic's fleet of suborbital spaceplanes.

The first WK2 is named VMS Eve after Richard Branson's mother; it was officially unveiled on July 28, 2008, and flew for the first time on December 21, 2008. The second is expected to be named VMS Spirit of Steve Fossett after Branson's close friend Steve Fossett.[3][4]

WhiteKnightTwo is roughly three times larger than White Knight, in order to perform a captive carry with the larger SpaceShipTwo spacecraft. The WK2 is similar in wingspan to a B-29 Superfortress.[5] Despite that comparison, White Knight Two is a thoroughly modern aircraft - even the flight control cables are constructed of carbon fibre, using a new patented design.[6]

WK2 will provide preview flights offering several seconds of weightlessness, before the actual suborbital event. It is intended to have a service ceiling of about 60,000 ft (18 km), offering a dark blue sky to passengers. This will allow tourists to practice before the real flight.[7]

WhiteKnightTwo consists of a twin boom with two jet engines per hull.[8] One hull is an exact replica of that of SpaceShipTwo (to allow tourist training), and the other will carry cut-rate day-trippers into the stratosphere.[9]

The design is quite different from the White Knight, both in size, use of tail, engine configuration and placement of cockpit(s). The White Knight uses two T-tails, but the WhiteKnightTwo uses two cruciform tails. Engine configuration is also very different, with engines hung underneath the wings on the WhiteKnightTwo as opposed to engines on either side of the sole cockpit on the White Knight.

Yes this is a composite of an image that I took with an image that I found on a search. But this is what real life water bending would look like.

I thought the unique pattern of this composite siding on the side of this old garage in Taylor Ridge,IL made for an interesting shot.

Ive just noticed the spires a bit crooked.

I was getting a bit fed up of it by this time though.

It offers a unique perspective anyway.

With photographs of your site, we can create composites of your future building in its exact location, right down to the street corner. With this, you can visualize exactly how your building will look in its future location.

Composite imagery can be fun... Next time I'm adding a 'Stache! Even photos want their own special ice cream bar creation!

The Composite Boat Building Program instructs students in the construction of modern boats and related parts using composite materials such as fibers, resins and core materials.

Composite figure of late medieval fragments, set amidst pieces of seventeenth century enamelled glass.

The windows at Yarnton mostly contain fascinating 16th/17th century roundels and salvaged fragments of medieval stained glass (mostly collected from elsewhere and little else in situ, except for the 1611 glass in the Spencer chapel).

The glass was formerly in the collection of Alderman Fletcher, until he presented the bulk of it to this church (a few other pieces apparently went to Begbroke). It was installed in here around c1815.

Students work on mold parts that will be used to build kayaks

Friday, Chad and Jeff attended an advanced composite fabrication workshop at the Kreysler & Associates manufacturing facility near Vallejo, California. The day started with a broad overview of composite technology and its applications for architecture. Attendees were then taken on a tour of the facility and watched demonstrations of carbon fiber being infused with resin by vacuum and closed-mold methods. At the time of the tour, the facility was being used to produce the cladding for SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art)’s new expansion, designed by Snøhetta, and participants witnessed each stage of the fabrication process for the unique panel system. We are excited by the possibilities and potential uses of this strong and lightweight material because is stronger and lighter than steel and comes in any color, texture, shape, or size.

Ummm... 7 of me..... could it be a good thing or a bad thing

Lighting info:

Elinchrome strobes. Two large soft boxes on the sides with one overhead beauty dish for fill. Two black cardboard cards were placed just in front of the camera to the left and right to prevent lens flare.

The model was shot on a grey seamless. The background is a HDR image shot with three images, -2, 0 and +2. The images were tone mapped in Photomatix and combined in Photoshop.
