Tada!!
So that's how a layer mask works??!! Well I suppose that's why I like this group...you make me push my boundaries. I normally avoid a lot of "photo shopping" in this sense...it's not why I enjoy photography. But I guess it's not a whole lot different than being creative in an artsy kind of way and I really enjoy that.
So here's my first attempt at a composite. I really do wish that's what was on the other side of my fence right now. :)
p.s. I've just gone through the submissions so far...the ideas, the creativity...wow!! Well done.
A composite of 2 shots. The results were not much different than a regular shot :( I have a ways to go before I get to the HDR...

My photoshop skills are something I want to work on this year. This is a composite image, the object is a 3d rendering of a fractal by Tom Beddard.
Opening frame from my personal project. (Re-uploaded because of the over sharpening Flickr applied to the first one). You can read more about the project from my blog www.arimyllymaki.com/stash-eddie-composite-photo-series/
Composite using models that were acting their characters during the Montreal Zombie Walk last weekend.
What do you think of this photograph I took? It's one of my first and I still love it even compared to my most current work.
I had a compilation album to do and it involved about six bands, and didn't want to do the same old bandy type posed shots. So I took headshots of everyone, and for each band got an unusual facial feature from every member and used it as a composite. For the front cover I used a blend of everyone's face. It's amazing how attractive the average of all the faces looks compared to the composites.

Thought i'd do another Startrail pic, shame i took it from the same place as last ones so look the same ;-)
I was going to have to make a fantasy composite from the earlier image and that outstretched hand calls for something magical. Working on the little things like having the blue magic provide light and color cast to the parts of her body near it. But still Brianna's eyes...
Comments and constructive critique welcome

For the relatively rare full/ super/ blood moon trifecta, I went to Sedona to witness the event. After scouting various locations on the eve and morning of the event, I settled on a location opposite iconic Bell Rock. After going through the 1000+ pictures I took over a span of 6 hours, I selected 60-70 of them. What you see here is a composite of 20-25 pictures. Multiple versions of the same subject (foreground or various phases of the moon) were used to bring out details that would otherwise be lost in shadows or extremely bright areas. Obviously, the moon in the picture is bigger than what we would see in person, but this was done specifically to show the details and beautiful colours of the moon seen through the event. This is not meant to be scientifically accurate.

GAZ-AA
In 1929 the first trucks Ford-AA and cars Ford-A were built in Nizhny Novgorod from parts shipped from the USA. In parallel a new automobile plant began to grow in Nizhny Novgorod (since 1932 Gorky). The name GAZ stands for Gorky Automobile Zavod (Plant). In January of 1932 the first GAZ-AA truck (almost a copy of the Ford-AA) was produced in the new plant. At the very beginning their cabins were wooden. In 1938 the new model appeared. GAZ-MM was exactly GAZ-AA supplied with GAZ-M1 engine. But I didn't meet GAZ-MM name in all reference guides and Militia documents issued before 1948-1949, when this name appeared in enormous amount. This truck was the main automobile in the Red Army in the first two years of 1941-1945 war together with ZIS-5. The disadvantage of these two models was that they were more than 10 years old. But their advantages were doubtlessly in their simplicity, ability to run on pure quality fuel and also simplification of models in the Red Army: only having two truck models in all. So this GAZ-AA truck is a very famous and respected vehicle in the Soviet Union. For its 1.5 tonne cargo capacity, people called it "Polutorka" ("poltora" means one and a half).
GAZ-AA and all of their modifications disappeared from our roads at the beginning of 1960s. The Russian people were prohibited to own trucks and even pickups until 1986 and disabled "polutorki" were mercilessly used as scrap metal. In the 1970-80's it was fashionable to install them (and ZIS trucks either) everywhere as monuments. Of course this is better than destruction, but they were seriously corroded by the weather. Nevertheless the standard GAZ-AA is not too rare even now, because of the enormous amount produced.

This image was just my try at light matching and compositing.

With the gypsum empties in their later VAR path it was only a few minutes between them and the early-running Carlisle - Crewe engineers' trunk service so I decided to hang about.
A very short consist easily fitted into the plan I had for it and 66434 is seen in this composite picture made up of sections from 3 different images to keep everything in focus.
