Completion of 8 new build apartments at Marion Road. 4 x 2 bed first floor apartments, and 4 x 2 bed ground floor adapted apartments.

The new SR 509 Expressway in SeaTac will first connect to 24th Avenue South. In this northwest view, the embankments to 24th Avenue are clearly visible. The expressway will pass under 24th Avenue South.

The SR 509 Completion Project is building the new tolled expressway in stages. This stage completes the first mile of the expressway to 24th Avenue. Stage 2 will build the remaining portion between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street, where SR 509 currently ends.

You may also notice, directly to the left of the overpass, is a closed off tunnel. That tunnel was a city of SeaTac project that is a forward compatible feature for a possible future direct link to Sea-Tac Airport.

The SR 509 Completion Project is part of the Puget Sound Gateway Program. The Gateway program combines the SR 509 Completion Project in King County and the SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County to complete critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.

The new flyover ramp that will provide a link from northbound I-5 to the new SR 509 Expressway in SeaTac is in construction.

The ramp consists of 24 concrete girders, ranging from 65 feet to nearly 200 feet long. The flyover ramp is slightly elevated on one side to accommodate the curve as it crosses over I-5.

Standing directly under SR 99 in SeaTac, the rough outline appears of where the future SR 509 Expressway will be. This August 2023 photo was taken in the same spot as where the northbound lanes will eventually be, although about 20 feet lower.

The new expressway is part of the SR 509 Completion Project which creates a new four-lane (two lanes in each direction) road between I-5 and South 188th Street near Sea-Tac Airport.

Four days in Spain! In the middle of our visit to France, we journey to Barcelona with our friend Lele and check out what this city is all about: a lot of cathedrals, great food, a very convivial atmosphere, and beautiful architecture and history in the capital of Catalonia.

Crews on the SR 509 Completion Project in SeaTac, WA clean up I-5 after tearing down half of the South 216th Street bridge in SeaTac, WA on Dec. 8, 2023. The bridge was torn down to make way for a new bridge, a portion of which is visible on the right side.

The older bridge was torn down to make way for a new bridge, which will be longer to accommodate new collector-distributor lanes that will be added to I-5 underneath as part of the SR 509 Completion Project.

The SR 509 Completion project is part of WSDOT’s Puget Sound Gateway Program, which completes SR 509 in south King County and SR 167 in Pierce County. These projects complete critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.

These photos are a bit ridged... Caesair has a neck problem which hasn't been fixed yet... but she is strung!

Caesair was my sixth Lishe and my fourth big girl.

Now go get some kegs - add branding bits and leather bags.

I'm going to have to find other stuff to waste film on -- they're almost done with this.

In late summer 2024, crews placed the final set of steel arches for the new Veterans Drive tunnel in SeaTac, WA.

Construction occurred in four phases. The first and second phases set the rings under southbound I-5. The third and final phases set the rings under northbound I-5.

The tunnel is a key element of the SR 509 Completion Project. It will create a link between the southbound I-5 off-ramp to SR 516 and the SR 516 on-ramp to northbound I-5. In turn, this will provide more direct access between SR 516, I-5 and SR 509 for freight trucks traveling to and from distribution and manufacturing centers in the Kent valley.

The SR 167 Completion Project in Fife includes a large and unique environmental mitigation program. While building the new SR 167 expressway, we've also begun work on a riparian restoration program, which will restore nearly 150 acres of wetlands and streams.

This photo, taken on Aug. 7, 2023, shows an excavator beginning work south of the Interurban Trail, where we'll create new channels for the Surprise Lake tributary.

Decades ago, areas on either side of I-5 at the Fife curve were converted to industrial and agricultural use, turning this area into a shadow of its former self. Hylebos Creek, for example, was diverted into ditches that followed straight lines and ran too close to I-5, allowing runoff from the road to enter the creek. Heavy rains resulted led to chronic flooding on I-5 because the wetlands that used to act as a storage area for floodwater were gone.

Our restoration work will realign Hylebos Creek on both sides of I-5, remove invasive grasses and other plants in both these areas. The Interurban Trail will remain. Old culverts are being replaced with bridges to allow the creek to flow more naturally and freely.

Native vegetation and trees will be added to encourage the return of wildlife. This includes things such as trees that will serve as perches for birds, sunning areas for turtles and aquatic habitat that will encourage growth in the fish populations that still use the area, particularly Chinook and coho salmon.

The SR 167 Completion project, along with restoring this vital habitat is part of our Puget Sound Gateway Program which completes critical links in Washington’s highway and freight network. It will build an important new connection to the Port of Tacoma, improve the movement of freight and reduce congestion on local roads and highways.

Two hours and 30 minutes from the end of the Tongariro Northern Circuit.

In SeaTac, WA, near Des Moines Memorial Drive South, workers begin the process of stabilizing the ground. A large shaft drills into the ground, creating a deep hole that will be filled with concrete. This process is repeated until the ground is firm enough to build on top of it.

After the ground is stable, the crew will begin building a foundation for a bridge. This work is a part of the State Route 509 Completion project, which connects SR 509 to I-5 and improves the I-5/SR 516 interchange and local roads.

The SR 509 Completion project is part of the Puget Sound Gateway program, which completes the missing links in Washington state's highway and freight network.

The SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County, WA requires a lot of bridges to carry the new SR 167 expressway over local surface streets. And bridges need abutment walls.

This abutment wall is for a bridge that will cross over 54th Avenue East in Fife, WA.

The SR 167 Completion Project extends SR 167 by 6 miles from its current end near Puyallup, WA to SR 509 near the Port of Tacoma. The project is part of the Puget Sound Gateway Program, builds the new expressway in stages. The first 2-mile section adds a connection between I-5 and SR 509. Later stages will add the connection between SR 167’s current end in Puyallup and I-5.
