well, i finally got the air suspension and the wheels on my new car. Wanted to do a pretty heavy edit so i could see how the color of the car reacted.
i'm really looking forward to photographing this car.
Finished some pre-work for the #swapaholicsretreat and excited about finishing the sewing book pattern that @amysinibaldi created. I still need to add a button for closing and I'm thinking about embroidering my name in the blank space under the bear. Getting more items checked off my to-do list. 🙌🙌🙌
The good points:
- Nice taper.
- Tight plaiting.
- Straight seams.
- Tight hitch.
- Tight binding.
- Nicely shaped cane.
- Firm TH foundation.
- Tight connection between handle and thong.
- It seems to crack well.
The bad points:
- Will have to think again about hide utilization in order to prevent strand stretching, and unevenness in the set.
- It is not a good idea to splice a bolster, at least not at this point.
- Neither it is a good idea to do a lot of splicing unless it is absolutely necessary.
- The keeper in the thong is a bit short and tight.
- The keeper in the handle is a bit long, giving a distorted appearance.
- Transition from checkerboard to four or six seam wasn't that neat.
- Some stitches were missing near the beginning of the thong.
- The lace for the TH wasn't of an appropriate size.
All in all, I think the problems had to do with aesthetical issues (due to very little experience) and not much about functional ones. I still need to make a video to show how it performs.
The paint and bodywork complete, the El Camino emerges from Mascar. Since my new garage was still under construction at this time, the car was sent to storage in a rented space on Newport Blvd.
The color is similar to a factory color available in 1966. I thought about what color to paint the car for a long time, since I didn't really want anything flashy, and I wanted a factory color or close to it. Then one day in the late nineties I saw a guy with a 1966 Chevelle sedan at the Long Beach Hot Rod Swap Meet and the car had the original factory paint, a shade called Cameo Beige. I decided that was the color I wanted. It seemed to be similar to the color of the head of a Guinness.
When it came time to paint the car, I poured some Guinness for Kenny so he could work out a paint formula to match the color of the head.
The result is a great color, but it doesn't look much like the Cameo Beige on this paint chip. But I'm not sure how accurate that chip is after all these years, or how accurate the color is as scanned or reproduced. My El Camino seems to be similar to my memory of that four-door I saw in Long Beach that day.
OMG! I love the finished top! Buttons will be added after quilting.
Thank you, Sara, for hosting this fabulous Quilt Along and thank you all who came up with the great blocks. I'd also like to thank everyone who has been participating and all the wonderful comments on everyone's work! Well Done!

I believe I'm never fighting cancer alone.
I believe this new chemo will work.
I believe in a positive attitude.
I believe!
Saturday morning I went to Kits Beach and as I saw the logs on the beach, I though about how trying something or making a significant change in one's life can bring challenges.
However, I know I overcome any challenge put before me, by drawing strength from those that believe in me and by continuing to believe in myself.
---
After consultation with my Myeloma Specialist/Hematologist, I've made the choice to add an additional chemo to my Pomalyst chemo treatment. My December blood test results show that my cancer levels have increased from 8 in November to between 10 and 11 now. It should be more effective to have 2 chemos fighting my multiple myeloma now, before my cancer levels get too high. Multiple myeloma has severe symptoms that hopefully I can minimize with lower cancer levels.
M protein (g/L) (0 = cancer undetectable)
Dec = between 10 and 11
Nov = 8
Late Oct = 9
Early Oct = between 5 and 6
Sept = under 7.7
Aug = value missing
July = 3.0 (ended Dexamethasone)
Feb 2015 (began chemo) = 36.1
The details are still being worked out, although I hope to start soon. I'm staying positive that my cancer levels will drop - and stay down for a long time.
To recap: On Sunday, December 31st, I completed Cycle 38 Week 3. I have Multiple Myeloma and anemia, a rare cancer of the immune system. It is incurable, but treatable. Since February 9th 2015, I have been on Pomalyst and dexamethasone chemo treatment (Pom/dex). On July 16th, my dexamethasone treatment ended, due to eye damage, as reported by my Glaucoma Specialist, from long-term use.
Right before I popped the case side panels on. This is the cleanest build I've ever done and the NZXT Phantom case is amazing to work with. Fantastic Quality. Amazing cable management. They give you tons of screws & ties and things. The built in fan controller lets it run dead silent at its lowest setting, but seriously pushes air when you max it out.

In 1927, a young man by the name of Wilson Miller, from Oneida, NY designed this unique experimental mid-wing aircraft to the surprise of Aviator and engineers alike.
Miller, who had studied airplanes since his was a young child, developed the machine as part of a "Modern Mechanics" LightPlane Contest while attending Oneide High School as a student. Given 1st prize in the international contest, Miller competed against aviators and designers from the United States and Canada, and was awarded a grand prize of $100 for both the completeness and originality of his designs.
Featuring a twenty-foot wingspan, a fusclage length of 14 feet, and a 50" wing cord, the machine is powered by a 1928 Harley-Davidson twin-cylinder engine, with which Miller replaced the original 1922 engine two years after its creation. Producing 18-20 horsepower, the engine has the ability to propell the machine to top speeds in excess of 75 mph, with cruising speeds in the area of 65 mph.
The machine took over three years for Miller to create, and was built from start to finish in the family garage. Featuring detachable wings, the machine was easily transportable to airfield in the Oneida area.
Millers design and expertise not only captured the attention of "Modern Mechanics", but of the entire airplane industry in the North-east United States. Literally dozens of newspaper and magazine articles also document the creation of the Miller Light Plane, and before the machine’s first flight, Miller even invited Col. Charles E. Lindbergh to pass judgement on its merits.
Miller took the light plane for its initial flight during the summer of its completion, in 1927.
Wilson Miller went on to have a successful career in aviation, using his expertise in flying to acquire positions such as Assistant Manager of the Oneida Airfield, Oneida County Air Distributor, Oneida Air Traffic Controller, and head of sales for Ace Monoplane — one of America’s first light-plane producers.
The rare, homebuilt machine was found in original condition by Wheels Through Time Museum curator, Dale Walksler, in 1992. With the plane, Walksler was able to acquire all of the original documentation from its build, including blueprints, newspaper articles, and original pictures.

One of the great aspects of the Lego system is that a stack of 5 plates is exactly the same height as the width of a 2 x N brick! This makes it possible to build smooth-sided rectangular prisms with a square cross-section, which is critical to recreating the puzzle in Lego.

On July 29, FirstEnergy completed demolition of the 854-foot concrete stack and 171-foot tall boiler house at its former coal-fired R.E. Burger Power Station in Shadyside, Ohio, paving the way for future development.
Today’s activities were the culmination of more than three weeks of preparation. Excess concrete and rebar were removed from the structures to direct the angle of the buildings’ fall. A professional explosives demolition team from Tulsa, Ok., set charges in the structures for the explosives. Dust suppression systems consisting of large fans and water sprayers surrounded the buildings to help contain the concrete and dirt particles that result from the structures’ fall.
Today’s demolition is an important milestone that supports future development of the Burger facility. FirstEnergy is working with state and local officials, JobsOhio and PTTGC America to support use of this property for a proposed cracker plant that will bring a vital manufacturing base to the county and many employment and business development opportunities to the region.
This is a photograph from the second running of the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon ("The Flatline") was held at Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Saturday 14th September 2013 at 11:00. There was beautiful weather for the event which started and finished at St. Aloysius College near the Canal Banks area of the town just slightly west of the River Shannon. This event was professionally organised and the very flat course meant that many runners both seasoned and new to the scene achieved season or personal bests. Almost 1,000 participants successfully completed the event in the beautiful September sunshine. Everyone involved must be congratulated for the flawless running of the event. This event is sure to go from strength to strength over the coming years. The "Flatline" also included an option for a full marathon which was fully supported by the Marathon Club of Ireland and the East of Ireland Marathon Series. This allowed participants to run the Flatline twice for the qualifying marathon distance. About 80 people took part.
This is a photograph which is part of a larger set of photographs taken at the start and finish of "The Flatline" 2013. The URL of the main set is www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157635495089498/. There are some photographs of the finishers of the marathon.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Such is the popularity of the race this year that registration closed for the race in mid-August 2013. There were well over 1,000 participants who took to the start line.
Weather: The weather on the day was almost perfect for running. The runners were bathed in warm September sunshine for the duration of the race and into the early afternoon. In the sections of the race out towards Clonown and around the Bord na Mona areas there was a stiff breeze but nothing major.
Course: "The Flatline" ceratinly lived up to its name. It is as flat a course as one is likely to find. A garmin connect gps trace of the route is provided here [connect.garmin.com/activity/199678412] Geographically the course spends much of the race in County Roscommon with only the first and last kilometers actually in County Westmeath. This gives geographically inclined runners the novel opportunity to race in two Irish provinces in one race. The course had distance markers at every kilometre and mile along the way. There were official pacers provided by the race organisers.
Location Map: Start/finish area and registration etc on Google StreetView [goo.gl/maps/8qCes] - Ample parking was supplied with some over-flow car-parking options also available.
Refreshments: An Alkohol Frei bottle of Erdinger was provided to every finisher as they crossed the line. Light refreshments were served.

Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

This is a completed commission for midwinterwriter, who asked me to re-create the 'Mirror' nightgown ensemble worn by Emmy Rossum in the 2004 'Phantom of the Opera' movie.
Here you can see the trained muslin robe which was made to go over the rest of the ensemble. The robe is made from lightly teastained cheesecloth and finished with broderie anglaise (both straight and ruffled), peach ribbon, and tiny ribbon roses.
The rest of the outfit includes a lace split skirt and camisole, and a late Victorian style satin corset.

The Mandarin's House has the characteristics of traditional Guangdong's residences. Yet, it also features a fusion of architectural influences from western cultures, making it a unique product of Chinese and western cultural interchange. The Mandarin's House has high humanistic values. Zheng Guanying , a late-Qing celebrity, completed the acclaimed masterpiece Shengshi Weiyan (Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity) in this house.
Zheng Wenrui, the father of Zheng Guanying , initiated the building of the Mandarin's House . Following the couplets inside the house, the construction work might have started by the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Tongzhi, i.e. year 1869.The expansions were done by Zheng Guanying and his brothers, from which the complex gradually enlarged. In the past, the Mandarin's House had an unobstructed view towards the Inner Habour and the hills across the river; the hustle and bustle of boats and ships coming in and out of the habour was the picturesque scene inhabitants here once enjoyed.
The Mandarin's House is very large, occupying an area of 4000m2 on which are buildings and open spaces designed in various architectural styles. The entire complex has more than 60 rooms in total. A private residence for one family of such scale is rare in Macao. Around 1950's to 1960's, the descendents of the Zheng's family moved out to live in different places. The Mandarin's House was then rented out. At one time, there were more than 300 tenants packed inside the complex, constituting to poor living conditions. The carrying capacity of the complex was pushed to limits. Building modifications, on top of everyday wear and tear began to cause damage to the architecture. The lack of daily maintenance and fire attacks brought further destructions. When the government got proprietorship of the property in 2001, more than 80% of the architecture was suffering from different degrees of damage. Alterations done by tenants also brought challenges in recovering the original appearance of the mansion.
About Macau
Macau, also spelled Macao, along with Hong Kong, is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China. It lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangdong province to the north and facing the South China Sea to the east and south.
The territory's economy is heavily dependent on gambling and tourism, but also includes manufacturing. The world's most densely populated country, Macau is best known as Asia's largest destination for gambling taking in even more revenue than Las Vegas.
Macau was a Portuguese colony in 1887, and is both the first and last European colony in China. Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 16th century and subsequently administered the region until the handover on 20 December 1999. The Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration and the Basic Law of Macau stipulate that Macau operates with a high degree of autonomy until at least 2049, fifty years after the transfer.
Under the policy of "one country, two systems", the PRC's Central People's Government is responsible for the territory's defense and foreign affairs, while Macau maintains its own legal system, police force, monetary system, customs policy, and immigration policy. Macau participates in many international organizations and events that do not require members to possess national sovereignty. According to The World Factbook, Macau has the second highest life expectancy in the world

The last of the hampers. Unfortuneately they are not in the usual baskets as I made an error in the size of the cake. They should have been 7" not 8". Had to improvise this year. Trays and plastic containers decorated with crissy ribbon. Came up rather good I thought. Must look round for something different for next year.
