Well I gave up on trying to fake concete with styrofoam and just used the real thing, although the aggregate is a little big for the scale...and he's a bit too close to the background back anyway, it's good to finally have it done.

35 days, 35 photos, 1 Explore, and one heck of a learning experience later, and my friend, Brian, and I are done with Project 35. The whole thing started because Brian bought a Canon 35mm f/1.4L, which is my favorite lens to use. I was so happy for him because I know what the lens is capable of, especially paired up with a full frame camera. So, I threw out a proposal to him to take a one-a-day photo challenge using the 35L for 35 days. I wanted to do it because my original intent was to use the 35L on my 40D and keep it there, just to see how it performed with a crop camera. But little did I know that I would learn quite a bit about myself as a shooter and this lens.
As much as I enjoyed having the 35L on my 40D, I kept wanting to put the lens back on my 5D2. I learned that I love the 35mm focal length on a full frame because of many reasons. First of all, I think it is the perfect focal length for me because I think 50mm is too close and the 24mm would be too wide, especially on full frame. Secondly, the 35L + 5D2 is just “magical” together. It’s like peanut butter and jelly, Sonny and Cher, and Bono and the Edge. I don’t know how to explain it and why that combo just goes so well together. I feel the same way about the 135L + 5D2 combo - magical! And thirdly, I like the 35mm on a full frame because I am able to tell a good story within a photo. It allows me more without having to step back too far.
Now that the Project 35 is completed, I feel a sense of freedom. I’m gonna play with my 135L or maybe my 50L now. It does feel good though to limit my lens choice for the last 35 days.
Task Completed, you can see the adjusting nut on the end of the anchor pin has been fitted, this squeezes the new top hat bush we had custom machined up against the side of the road springs and stops any lateral movement. The pipe going into the anchor pin is the auto lube which will keep the pin and bush inside fed with oil to limit wear. Graham will now descend on the whole area and touch up the paintwork.
54cm Surly Pacer complete with a few changes. Just got a thorough cleaning. fresh Gatorskins (skinwall matches the Brooks Swift nicely) and new tan bar tape with some shellac to change the look and protect it. Very happy with the bike.
Our new Porcher wall-mount sink and a free-standing cabient we picked up at Ikea. The cabinet is made to fit under sinks like this and has a cut out in the top.

This image was scanned from a glass slide or photograph in the Williamson Collection of some 450 photographic glass slides and other items, which was acquired by the archives section of the Auchmuty Library. The collection was assembled by Archdeacon A. N. Williamson, who served for many years in the diocese of Newcastle, as well as travelling extensively in the South Pacific area. The collection vividly portrays town and country life in Australia, particularly in Sydney and the Hunter Valley, soon after the turn of the century. The collection also illustrates life in Japan, Papua New Guinea, Nauru and Fiji, from the turn of the century until the mid-1930s.

Berthed at the Navaco ship demolition quay. In very poor condition - a former tanker.
Completed in 1971 by Zaliv Shipbuilding Yard, Kerch, Russia (442)
1,611 g.t. and 1,660 dwt., as:
'Kumbysh' to 1992, and
'Archangelos' until scuttled in deep water off Las Palmas in late 1999 or early 2000.

On 24 January 1995, acting on intelligence from various agencies, the SVA (Servicio de Vigilancia Aduanera - Spanish Customs service) vessel 'Petrel 1' ( flic.kr/p/DYD6H3 ) apprehended this ship some thirty miles off the Canary Islands, and a gun battle ensued between the crew and Customs.
The captain of the ship was a Greek national, Angelos Rigopoulos.
The alleged Chief Engineer of the ship, one Vicente Serrantes, caused moments of great tension when, armed and shooting, he sprayed the access to the engine room with gasoline. The ship has clear evidence of fire damage in my photos, so I assume this was done during the 'battle'.
The good guys won, and a search of the vessel revealed 3 tonnes of cocaine was hidden on board.
The vessel and crew were arrested, taken to Las Palmas and subsequently all received custodial sentences.
A joke that went around Las Palmas in the days following the arrest and seizure was that the cocaine shipment for Carnivale had finally arrived!
