(just finished a long photo shoot with my friend Chantel. At some point I plan to actually edit my self portraits and pull them all up tomorrow :D . This series is going to have a lot of illustration incorporated with it, on the photo as a layer and off with matt board)
Comments in graffiti by asylum inmates include "It's a casual madness", "Get me out of here", and "They killed me", scrawled or carved on these bricks from the 1880s to the 1970s.
- "These patient-built walls are a testament to the abilities of the people whose unpaid labour was central to the operation of asylums in the colony of Upper Canada and the Province of Ontario during the 19th and 20th centuries. The asylum on Queen street first opened in 1850 and was overcrowded within a few years. The initial idea of work as therapy gave way to the reality of work intended to save the provincial government money through unpaid patient labour. Men worked outdoors on construction, maintenance and farm work, including building and repairing many of the structures behind which they were confined, including the still existing boundary walls on the south side of this property, built in 1860, and the east and west boundary walls built in 1888-89. ... Seen by many as the physical representation of prejudiced attitudes towards people with a psychiatric diagnosis, the walls which still stand today are historical monuments to the exploited labour of all psychiatric patients who lived, worked and died on these grounds since 1850." I find cars with many bumper stickers interesting and try to check out as many as I can. I'm usually behind them in traffic so there isn't much time. In any case, I've acquired enough photos now to start a new collection which I hope you'll enjoy.
Please note that I'm not encouraging comments about the content of the stickers. That could quickly get into nasty arguments and I don't need that aggravation. We live in a country where people can put this stuff on the back of their cars. Let's simply revel in that.
Finally, I've loaded larger-than-usual versions of the pictures so that you can give these works of art the detailed inspection that they deserve.

"Mmm, in 1906, the Fire gutted the inside, the roof and the original windows, but the walls are still the original 1854 structure.. The sign (replaced, of course, it's wood...) below the clock still has the same saying (before 1906, there was a brothel across California Street) "Son, observe the time and fly from evil..."

Old Saint Mary's Cathedral & Chinese Mission
A Missionary Community of Faith Served by the Paulist Fathers Since 1894
Old St. Mary's Cathedral: Old St. Mary's is one of the most prominent buildings in the Chinatown area. The cathedral was built by Chinese laborers in 1854 using brick that was shipped around Cape Horn and granite from China. Though the original was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1909. 660 California St. www.sfgate.com/neighborhoods/sf/chinatown/

The Site of Old St. Mary's
Cornerstone 1853
Dedicated 1854
The first building erected as a cathedral in California, Old St. Mary's served the archdiocese of San Francisco in that capacity from 1854 to 1891. Once the city's most prominent building, much of its stone work was quarried and cut in China and its brick brought "around the Horn" in sailing ships. California Registered Historical Landmark No.810. Plaque placed by the California State Park and Commission in cooperation with the Paulist Fathers and the Grand Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West, May 7, 1966.
Old St. Mary's Church was established by Father Henry Ignatius Stark as a mission. The purpose was to teach the Chinese community about the Catholic faith. It was built by Chinese laborers in 1854 with brick brought around Cape Horn and granite cut in China. It was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and rebuilt in 1909. Across from this Catholic landmark is St. Mary's Square, where a 12-foot statue of Sun Yat Sen, founder of the Chinese Republic (1911-1913), is located. www.sanfranciscochinatown.com/attractions/oldstmary.html

took a walk out back (where i take most of my pictures) and decided to do something a little casual in my new dress. i picked out this one, from the lady who my mom got my pink one from, it was her brother.
Beachchair flipped as parents jump up and look for child who had found new friends 30 feet away. Everything okay and now paying attention to little one.
Sorry, forgot to comment. I did play around with masking to try to bring the arm and hand out of the texture, but it made it look worse, the texture helped darken the photo. I would have liked the hand to be more precise.

Day 29 - Camp Jabez Open House
This was taken with my 50mm f/1.8 II and set to B/W in Lightroom. :)
Melody (Light hair) and Sue (dark hair). :) The Open House for camp was today! It was amazing. Even though it was pretty cold (around 45 degrees...brrr...compared to the upper 50's and low 60's we've been used to!!) , everyone had a good time.
Sorry this isn't as sharp as it should be. Taking pictures of Sue is really, really, really hard...since she thinks she doesn't look good in them and will only stand still for a half second to let you take one. :) So I had to be really quick, and didn't have time to put the dot exactly where it was supposed to be. This is actually a pretty good picture of Sue. Love her!! I can't imagine life with you, Lovely. :) I love how when I look into her eyes in this I can just feel her warmth and love. :D

Noted how the views , the comments, favs and interesting features reveal some similarities as well as very differing results. I appreciate the comments.
These are the most commented on in my stream in their current order starting w/ most upper left to lower right (least most). The arrangement is a cool one. All but #'s 2 & 3 were shot in our yard or in the house.
