(Sommers staff - suggest replacing the existing text submitted by Jim Haggart Aug 10, 2016 with this) Submitted by Jim Haggart and Dave Karthauser, June 17, 2017 Troop 68 of Arlington, Texas (Longhorn Council). Scoutmaster: Dave Karthauser Back row: Joe Miller, guide; Steve Smith, probably crew leader; John Pitstick; Dave Karthauser; Unknown Middle row: Kevin Grant; Robert Rau; Mike Hill; Unknown Front row: Jim Haggart (Dallas, TX); Ron Pricket; David Karthauser, son of Dave; Bill Loflin We traveled from Arlington to Ely on a bus with our sister crew, as well as some boys who were too young for the Sommers trip and who went on an independent trip with another outfitter. Our crew attempted to do the “Hunter’s Island” circuit, but had to head south once we got to Shelley Lake, at the northern tip of the circuit, as we were running out of time. When we were camped at Agnes Lake later in the trip, Dave got everyone up at 2 in the morning to look at the full moon. He then told everyone that there was plenty of light, so we might as well break camp and get going down Agnes Lake, as it was going to be a long day. There was lots of grumbling, but we did it nonetheless. Then, early in the morning we were paddling across a glassy Agnes with the fog sitting right on the water and the sun just above. In the early afternoon, we took a break for a couple of hours and then the wind came up, producing 3' waves. Dave reminded everyone that if we had slept in that morning until the normal time, we would have been battling the waves on Agnes that much longer!

"Mmm, in 1906, the Fire gutted the inside, the roof and the original windows, but the walls are still the original 1854 structure.. The sign (replaced, of course, it's wood...) below the clock still has the same saying (before 1906, there was a brothel across California Street) "Son, observe the time and fly from evil..."

Old St. Mary's Cathedral: Old St. Mary's is one of the most prominent buildings in the Chinatown area. The cathedral was built by Chinese laborers in 1854 using brick that was shipped around Cape Horn and granite from China. The first building erected as a cathedral in California, Old St. Mary's served the archdiocese of San Francisco in that capacity from 1854 to 1891. Once the city's most prominent building, much of its stone work was quarried and cut in China and its brick brought "around the Horn" in sailing ships. Old St. Mary's Church was established by Father Henry Ignatius Stark as a mission. The purpose was to teach the Chinese community about the Catholic faith. It was built by Chinese laborers in 1854 with brick brought around Cape Horn and granite cut in China. It was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and rebuilt in 1909. Across from this Catholic landmark is St. Mary's Square, where a 12-foot statue of Sun Yat Sen, founder of the Chinese Republic (1911-1913), is located. www.sanfranciscochinatown.com/attractions/oldstmary.html

Comments always appreciated, as long as you keep it clean - I love to hear your feedback! xx

I went for a brilliant comedy night with my dear friend Andrew to see the hilarious Nina Gilligan at Cottingham Comedy Club.

As you can see we sat right at the front in front of the microphone - very brave, ha ha!

I had seen Nina before with Gemma in Leeds back in December 2022 and we met her and got pictures back then. So I messaged her on Instagram to tell her I was looking forward to seeing her again.

Nina was the main act and hadn't arrived by the time the show started. She arrived during one of the breaks. When I saw her she was so lovely - she came straight over to me and gave me a huge hug! And when she had finished her set, she stepped off the stage and gave me another huge hug - and she featured me on her Instagram stories the next day. She is so, so lovely!

The other acts were brilliant too and I was even brought on stage to be a part of a mind-reading act. It was an awesome night!

Check out Nina's Instagram - she is absolutely hilarious! @gilligannina

Can't wait to see her again!

For a summary of the critic, see: www.artspace.com/magazine/art_101/art_market/what_did_cle...

Greenberg favored art that skillfully addressed formal problems, such as how to make paintings that are interesting up close as well as from a distance. When we move close to a late Titian painting, forms dissolve into brushstrokes that seem to make mysterious motifs of their own. This metamorphic effect (lacking in the paintings of Rubens, for example) was one solution.

Pollock's action paintings achieve the goal in a more completely abstract way. Rhythms and forms emerge from other rhythms and forms like eyes from the foliage of a forest. In space we see that the constellation has within it other patterns of stars.

At the spectrum's other end, the microscope reveals that 90% of the cells our bodies contain are actually something other than human. What is terrifying is revealed as the teeth of hitherto un-glimpsed depth. Within our own bodily form, there are other bodily forms seething within.

The complexities we can see through the telescope and the microscope are comparable to the potentially infinite richness revealed by Greenberg's close, zoomed-in, attention to the formal (purely visual) qualities of art.

But some artists and critics objected that art was being drained of meaning by Greenberg's tendency to value form more and to value representation less. They felt that Greenberg's approach encouraged art to become too aloof, too emotionally distant from the real world. They were similar to those who complained that society was being made lonelier and more alienating by the modern attitude which valued efficiency and marketability more than the human-ness of individuals.

Comment to Recieve the body

Anyone else notice this? Yet another change in the beta phase, but will come soon enough to ruin everyone's lives once again.

I'll admit, the initial changes were a disaster, but I did grow to accept them. The only real thing I liked was the changes made to the mobile app.

However I don't think I can handle this change. If I want to see photos this large, I'll click on it. I'd much rather keep what we got now.

For more information about the changes, click here.

i probably wont be uploading for a while... i dont know when i will have time to take photos, but i've already began scheming for ideas when the snow melts and the flowers expose themselves :)

until then comments off on this one its not my best

i'll probably clean up my thread when i return
