One of the first photo shoots. It was very cold at the time of shooting, which added more atmosphere. The model doesn't smoke, so I had to give a quick lesson on cigarettes.

Tijdens de oefening Cold Response maken de Zr.Ms. Rotterdam, Zr. Ms. Johan de Witt en een Cougar detachement samen met de bootgroep en een raidingsquadron deel uit van de Nato Response Force. Tesamen beoefenen ze met diverse landen de inzet het landen op strand, inzet met de helikopter en verschillende scenario's voor het vlootverband om te oefenen met amfibische operaties.

Slechts een paar mensen die de kou trotseren op het 's avonds zo mooi verlichte plein in hartje Krakau, de Grote Markt (Rynek Główny). Het kleine kerkje op de voorgrond is de Sint-Adalbertkerk (in het Pools beter bekend als de Kościół św. Wojciecha). Interessant feitje over deze mini-kerk: het is bijna duizend jaar oud en is daarmee één van de oudste stenen kerken van Polen.

Only a few people who braved the cold in the evening so beautifully lighted square in the heart of Kraków, called the Main Square (Rynek Główny). The small church is called the Church of St. Adalbert, in Polish better known as the Kościół św. Wojciecha. Interesting fact: this church is almost a thousand years old and therefore one of the oldest stone churches in Poland.

About 20 below zero when I took this shot. The dark spots are shadows created by the steam generated by the power plant half a mile up river. steam and exhaust from the homes and businesses downtown make it look grey. The polar inversion keeps the air hazy. Away from the city the air is crisp and clear. There is still open water on the river. It doesn't freeze solid in this part of Minnesota but it will be months before there is enough open water for the shipping season to start. The first barge will come through in March or April
The cold aisle in SAP's data centre in its HQ in Germany. The aisle is sealed. Cold air comes up through the perforated floor tiles and goes into the front of the servers to keep them cool.

Canon just announced a ruggedized camera that's cold, shock, and water resistant. If I had one of those, I'd be almost tempted to do this just so I could get shots of the action from right down in it.
Pictures like this are a good argument either way.
A glass of white wine. I left the bottle in the freezer for a few minutes too long and when I poured it, these ice flakes had formed. Lovely.

Cold. Gloomy. Drive to work was awful because snow. Daylight savings ending means I don't ever get to see the sun.
Took a bunch of people over the Kaldidalur route today. Not much snow in the highlands yet, but we still had some great fun on the way getting through the snow.
From www.nat.is: The Cold Valley is the westernmost and the shortest of the three main routes across the interior from south to north. It lies between the mountain Ok and The Long Glacier and its highest elevation is 727 m. Usually it is passable for most vehicles three to five months of the year.
The Cold Valley route was much travelled in the past, especially between the inland located farms of the West and Northwest, and the Parliamentary Plains area. It was the first one to be made permanent with road building in 1830. The view from the highest lying point (727 m) enroute is excellent on a fine day. A few legends and Sagas are connected with this part of the country. A side road to the east from the main route leads to a hut at the edge of The Long Glacier, where adventurous glacier tours are on offer.
