This capture was made prior to my wife's illness and was really the beginning of mating season for these behemoths! This is the time of the year to exercise a bit of caution as these gators begin trying to attract a mate!! It is a deep guttural bellowing sound and as you can see from the photo the vibrations made by the alligator are quite intense and make the water vibrate and dance when they are making these noises!! It's quite unnerving and a person had best keep his distance!!! This particular alligator way extremely active and was even trying to court our resident female alligator Dolly who is currently caring for her youngsters! I might also add that these displays are territorial with males fighting for mating rights!! You can also see a battle scar visible on his head in the area of the eye!! Photo was taken on Horsepen Bayou!!
It's time to exercise a bit of caution when this is going on keep your distance from the large males!

A cold snap has finally arrived. Being the start of February, that is not so bad. I'm not thrilled with it, but, it could have happened much sooner and more often.
Very cold this morning and the lake is starting to freeze. I liked all the ice formations at shore. I should get out there again with my macro lens.. Maybe?
Cold War Nuclear Attack Monitoring Bunker in the hills above Holywood, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. Manned by the Royal Observer Corps, who were expected to spend three weeks underground during a Nuclear Exchange. These bunkers are located all over the UK, in various states of decay and can be explored by the adventurous. A few have been restored. Eerie relics of a time when Nuclear War seemed a very real possibility.
