Cocktail Hour: The GDL

It’s an Aviation. With tequila.
GDL is the airport code for Guadalajara.
I used butterfly pea flower instead of crème de violette. Soaked a pinch of the flowers in the tequila for about one Bob’s Burgers episode (about 30 minutes).
I did the cocktail twice and did different ratios. This was one of them.
1.75 oz. Blanco Tequila @volcantequila
0.50 oz. Maraschino Liqueur
0.50 oz. Lemon Juice
Shake with ice.
Express with lemon peel + garnish

This was a fine little cocktail, but I think the honey syrup probably could have been switched out for a 2:1 simple syrup for a slightly richer note and some balance to the acid. Saturday Cocktail Hour: The Reverse Manhattan #cocktailrobot -•- Really. One of my favorite cocktails these days. Take you manhattan and flip the rye and vermouth proportions. I prefer the reverse to the original. I like (good) vermouth. I like a slightly lower ABV. -•- 2 oz. red Vermouth (used Punt e Mes) 1 oz. Friday Night Cocktail Hour: Cocchi Rosa-Aperol Sour #cocktailrobot -•- @chill_sips made a clever take on an Aperol Sour and described it as low-ABV and easy to drink. I’m sold. The recipe calls for Cocchi Rosa (how do I not have a bottle?) but I had just opened a bottle of Cocchi Vermouth di Torino. So that is what we are doing. 1.0 oz. Aperol 1.0 oz. Cocchi Rosa 1.0 oz. Lemon juice 0.5 oz. Simple Syrup Egg whites (I flaked and forgot) Peychaud Bitters as garnish in foam (flaked) Dry shake. Shake with ice. Strain. Garnish. Will make again and again. I had a small amount of sherry left that I needed to use. So, here we are.
There seem to be two versions of this drink. One on KindredCocktails and the other on Difford’s guide. I did a merge.
1.5 oz. Gin @mulholland.spirits
3/4 fl oz Dry vermouth
1/2 fl oz Fino sherry
1/4 fl oz Orange Curaçao liqueur (used Creole Shrub)
1 barspoon Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
1 barspoon Simple Syrup
1 dash Absinthe
1 dash Orange Bitters
Stir, strain, up, lemon peel expressed and then plopped.
Also basil from the garden. Heirloom tomatoes. Mozzarella.

Monday Cocktail Hour: Charanda Daiquiri #cocktailrobot -•- This weekend was a bit bonkers so I’m finally getting around to actually doing something the bottle of charanda. Normally it’s served up/no ice, but c’mon. 3.75 ounces of alcohol? I may have also not poured it all into my glass. Tasty. Thursday Cocktail Hour: The Two Brandy Sour #cocktailrobot -•- Thursday? Already? Quick fact: Brandy is any spirit made from fruit. I’ve always liked the idea of having Apple Brandy (arguably the most American spirit) and Cognac (the most French) in the same cocktail. We had a free minute while putting dinner together so I made a quick sour. The Apple Brandy is the Laird’s Straight Apple Brandy. Not the Applejack. Applejack isn’t 100% apple brandy (they can use other neutral spirits - Laird’s Applejack is only 35% apple brandy). Apple Brandy is 100% apple brandy. Um. How about those apples? The Lairds is also a higher ABV than the Cognac I’m using so it’s not a 50/50 blend. The Hennessy VSOP is my go-to for Cognac and cocktails. -•- 1.25 oz. Hennessy VSOP 0.75 oz. Laird’s Straight Apply Brandy 0.75 oz. Lemon Juice 0.75 oz. ‘Triple’ syrup with some pineapple gum syrup in there as well. -•- Shake with ice. Then I did the ol’ reverse dry shake. So, strain the ice out. I added a fee drops of that Fee Brothers Foam and then did a dry shake. Strain onto ice. Express and garnish with lemon. Maybe some bitters in the foam.
