Monday Cocktail Hour: Tequila Lime Sour AKA I don’t need no stinking curaçao #cocktailrobot -•- The Margarita is a cocktail I’ve, naturally, enjoyed. I do live in the United States. At the same time, it is probably my least favorite tequila cocktail. I like them, but I don’t “like” like them. Also, orange curaçao or triple sec or whatever orange liqueur you are using: It seems unnecessary to my palate. We had a funny night. Tequila Lime Sour! 2.00 oz. Blanco Tequila @woodinvillewhiskeyco 1.00 oz. Agave syrup (dang!) 1.00 oz. Lime juice 0.25 oz. Leftover pineapple juice (why not) 3 dashes of orange bitters pinch of salt Shake with ice. Strain. Wednesday Cocktail Hour: Margarita con Montenegro #cocktailrobot -•- I had a weird little cold/baby-flu over the weekend and am now just waking up. (took COVID tests (all good (came back ‘positive’ (positive I didn’t have COVID))) During a recent sudafed-fueled sleep, I dreamed of this cocktail. Bloody Friday Cocktail Hour: Wee Beastie Bloody Mary #cocktailrobot -•- For the past decade or so we have retired to Los Angeles for a few days in the sun (usually) and Thanksgiving with some friends. On Friday, it’s the annual “BLOODY FRIDAY” which involves key things: - Coffee - Leftovers - Bloody Marys - James Bond movies So, we needed a little Bloody Friday action here in NYC. Fun Facts: (1) This may be the first time I’ve made a drink before 5pm since March. (2) This may be the first time I’ve actually made a Bloody Mary (really?). From the great Martin’s Index of Cocktails, I used the 1946 recipe from the ‘Stork Club Bar Book’ with some tweaks. Its distinctive yellow color comes from the presence of saffron.” I have this bottle of Strega and I thought it would make an interesting sub for the Green Chartreuse in the Last Word. Monday (?) Cocktail Hour: Smoky Zombie #cocktailrobot -•- THIS COCKTAIL ATE MY BRAINS. The original recipe had apricot brandy. I don’t have any. Blame pandemic. 1.50 oz. Ardbeg Wee Beastie 0.50 oz. rum (Hamilton Gold) 1.00 oz. Orange curaçao 0.50 oz. lime juice 0.50 oz. lemon juice 1.50 oz. pineapple 0.25 oz. Grenadine 2 dashes Angostura 0.50 oz. Honey Syrup I saw this recipe somewhere during the workday and copied and pasted it for cocktail hour. What “orange liqueur” do you use? I used a certain brand’s “dry” version that I think I have fallen out of love with. Alas. I added honey syrup because the orange liqueur was actually dry and I didn’t have any apricot brandy (am I assuming that it’s got residual sugar?). Shake. Strain. Usually you’d garnish it with a zillion things. Maybe this was my minimalist zombie. Tasty. Two Cocktails: Green Lady & Amaro Manhattan There was some buzz about the “Green Lady” which is a take on the Pink Lady/White Lady cocktails (I’m a fan of the ‘Pink Lady’). The “Green” of course is the addition of Green Chartreuse instead of Cointreau (“white”) or Applejack (“pink”). 1.5 ounces @mulholland.spirits gin 0.75 ounce green Chartreuse 0.50 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice egg whites Dry Shake. Shake with ice. Strain. I suspect a garnish would be nice. I realized, as we were sipping this, “Oh, it reminds me less of the Pink or White Lady and much more on a variation and gin-forward Last Word”. Second cocktail! The apartment is warm, even if it’s super-chilly outside, and I find myself wanting ice for the more spirits forward drinks. Especially after dinner while lounging on the couch. 2.00 ounces Rye Whiskey (@woodinvillewhiskeyco ) 1.00 ounces Averna Dashes of Orange Bitters Stir on ice. Strain neat or (what I did) onto a nice clear cube). Cozy. Wednesday Cocktail Hour: The Jungle Bird #cocktailrobot -•- “Dried pineapple rings soaked in Campari” In my notes folder was this screenshot from an article I had read at some point. I came across it today and realized that I had dried pineapple rings in the kitchen. Didn’t use Campari but used Contratto. Soaked the pineapple ring for about 6 hours. Then we used the pineapple-influenced Contratto in the cocktail. 1.5 oz. Rum (used @charanda_uruapan Blanco Rum) 0.75 oz. Campari (used Contratto) 0.50 oz. Demerara Syrup (subbed Agave Syrup) 1.5 oz. Pineapple Juice 0.50 oz. Lime Juice a bit of egg whites (still playing with that powder) Shake with ice.
Strain. Onto new ice (yay @truecubes ) Garnish with pineapple wedge! Spears by @stectormetals Tasty! #charanda

Pedro Infante (1917-1957) was a Mexican crooner and is the inspiration for this cocktail that was created at Dutch Kills by Giuseppe Gonzalez. My colleague @belvederebrian mentioned this cocktail as one of his favorites and I made a note to try it.
There’s a tsunami outside. Japanese curry and roast vegetables were on our menu tonight.
2.00 oz. Volcan X.A Tequila
0.75 oz. Lime Juice
0.75 oz. Orgeat (❤️😊)
3 drops orange blossom water
Shake! Shake with ice.
Strain (double strain) into glass. Garnish with lime wheel (sure?) and grate nutmeg on top.
First, orange blossom water. I’ve had a bottle for a while. It’s so so so strong.
Second, this is a great cocktail.
Third, lovely wife bought the nutmeg seeds so I was excited to grate those.
Fourth, Pedro Infante is on the spotify.
I’m also raising a glass to the lovely @dabew1 who is having a birthday tomorrow. ¡Happy birthday! 🎂

Saturday Night Cocktail Hour: Upstate Sour #cocktailrobot -•- South Hill Cider makes lots of charming ciders up in Ithaca. I was gifted a bottle of their Pommeau. Pommeau is apple brandy (eau-de-vie) added to apple cider and clocks in at around 16-19% ABV - originally found in NW France. @southhillcider makes theirs in the Finger Lakes. It’s lovely on ice. I did a whiskey sour with the Pommeau. I’m going to try it again with the ‘worlds greatest Amaretto Sour’ proportions (with the pommeau subbing for the Amaretto). 2.00 oz. Bourbon 0.75 oz. Tuesday Cocktail Hour: Butterfly Gin Sour #cocktailrobot -•- Oh, my. These new @kimuraglass_asia glasses are bonkers thin. Sooooooo elegant-y. We were in Rhode Island this weekend and some cocktails and snacks at the Industrious Spirit Company. Fun spot (although this was Saturday and it was somehow FREEZING COLD). I bought a bottle of their ‘Ornamental Gin’. Tasty. 2.00 oz. gin @iscospirits 0.75 oz. honey syrup 0.75 oz. lemon juice bar spoon-ish of Orgeat Shake. Strain. Garnish with something (we have cheeeeeeries). The gin had some butterly pea flower in it for about 30 minutes. Turned it blue. Then the citrus turned it purple. And then the honey syrup and dilution made it pink. Enjoyed this as I made some mapo tofu with faux-meat stuff (that turned out way better than expected). I did spot this one here on the Instagram and it had things I liked AND things I had. There’s a good Venn diagram. This cocktail was created by @spiritandspoon and was part of a fun video on the @volcantequila feed. I didn’t do any dancing while making this but I did make a tasty mapo tofu at the same time. Also, the kitchen is a mess. 1.5 oz. Volcan Reposado Tequila 0.5 oz. Campari (I used Royal Vallet’s Granada-Vallet instead (made in MX!) 1.5 oz. grapefruit juice (we had grapefruit!) 0.5 oz. lime 0.5 oz. Tuesday Cocktail Hour: Averna-esque Daiquiri #cocktailrobot -•- On one of the @creativedrunk “ask me anything” sessions he mentioned adding Averna to your next daiquiri. I tried that tonight. I planned on doing the Hemmingway daiquiri version but realized I didn’t have grapefruit juice. But, I do have grapefruit bitters and a little extra simple syrup. 1.25 oz. Rum (Hampden Jamaican Single Estate) 0.75 oz. Averna 0.75 oz. lime juice a whole mess of grapefruit bitters 0.50 oz. Maraschino liqueur 0.25 oz. simple syrup (should have just bumped the Maraschino up) Shake! Strain! Garnish with some lime wheel action. Eat chocolate. Tasty. Again: Shot with #lensbabysol45 lens. Saturday Cocktail Hour: Alpine Whiskey Sour #cocktailrobot -•- When I was a young pup, I was lucky to do a two month tour of Europe with two pals - one pal being George who I had known since I was 6 years old. We were in the Italian alps staying with a friend of George’s and I had my first Amari. Bitter and floral and made by someone a half mile from where we were staying. Sunday Cocktail Hour: Savory Summer Gin Sour #cocktailrobot -•- Last night we had a great dinner at Haenyeo in Brooklyn and I had a gin-based cocktail that had sesame oil in it. This was my wonky attempt to do something similar (but not similar at all). 2 oz. gin 0.50 oz. simple syrup 0.75 oz. lemon juice 1/4 teaspoon of sesame oil handful of basil 2 dashes of umami bitters Smashed up the basil with the gin. Added all the ingredients. Shook with ice. Strained in glass and topped with some bubbly water. Whenever we run errands on the weekend, we often find ourselves walking down 7th avenue in Park Slope and just happen to pass the snazzy wine/spirits shop @amaro.brooklyn - oh, darn!
Today I picked up a bottle of Amara Sicilian Blood Orange Liqueur and then we made two oddball cocktails with it. Lovely Wife™ wondered what a Negroni with it would be like (with it playing the bitter/Campari role) and we naturally thought a Margarita would be interesting with it in the role of Triple Sec/Curaçao.
Two cocktails!
On the left, the “Negroni” was tasty, but the Orange Liqueur got lost. It was more like a 50/50 as we used Dolin Blanc. The gin was the elegant (!) @mulholland.spirits gin.
The Margarita was tasty. It definitely worked there. It probably didn’t hurt that the @volcantequila Reposado is gorgeous.
Neat stuff. Also, handily had some dried blood orange wheels. Snazzy.

Cocktail Hour: Five Spice Cognac Daisy #cocktailrobot -•- Take some Chinese Five Spice and put in your Cognac and let it sit for a hours. Give it a shake from time to time. Then make a Daisy! (basically a sour with a liqueur added) 2.00 oz. Hennessy V.S.O.P Cognac infused with Chinese Five Spice 0.50 oz. Simple Syrup 0.75 oz. Stambecco Amaro (cherries!) 0.75 oz. Lemon Juice Egg Whites Dry shake! Shake with ice! Strain! Garnish! Don’t overdo it on the Five Spice. The timing seems a bit tricky. That said, I’d drink this again.
