The Classic Lego Astronauts wish everyone a Happy New Year!

I was about 10 years old when I went to my buddy Dre Langlois's house for the first time - the year was 1987. He had the most crazy lego setup I had ever seen, it was about 7 moonbase base plates full of space Lego, they were all laid out in a room next to his bedroom.. Not only did he have the Renegade, but he had the Message Intercept Base. That was the day I discovered Blacktron.

The black visor was the first bad ass minifigure accessory I can remember.

The guy in the middle has the original Blacktron torso - the others are my take on Neo Blacktron.

You better not make them angry…

Tried to build something not too futuristic that could fit into a landing craft.

Nova Team is a specialized group of Federation officers fulfilling the role of both explorers and defenders. Working out of Deep Space Outpost Arcturus, the team travels the galaxy in search of strange new worlds and civilizations and are ready to help and protect anyone who needs it.

Over the last couple of days I’ve been posting photos with stories ;-) of my custom LEGO Neo-Classic Space minifigure waterslide decals. Thank you all for the interest, favs and kind words. I really appreciate it! For those who don’t know, my idea was to come up with an updated take on the original Classic Space minifigure and of course making sure that wonderful logo was centerstage in the design. I took inspiration from Galaxy Squad, Batman's spacesuit and the Series 1 Spaceman Collectible Minifigure. To learn more about the in-universe story behind the new space suit, take a look at my description here: flic.kr/p/tN5MpG

The Team (by Color)

Gray: Captain Robert Knight (commanding officer and my personal sigfig)

White: Commander Lance Lane (2nd in command and copilot)

Dark Red: Lt Sydney Stargazer (tactical)

Blue: Lt Commander Samuel Steele (science officer)

Yellow: Chief Milton Mason (chief engineer)

Dark Blue: Sergeant Harris Hunter (security)

Black: Lt. Brett Briggs (spec ops)

Another flying wing MOC. I built the original MOC a while back but was never happy with the cockpit, I updated it this evening and am happy with it now.

Because why not.

These simple shots are from a roadtrip to the Finnish Lapland a few years ago. I had this guy as my travel companion. I never posted these photographs before, no particular reason why.

Or maybe it was because the helmet is ever so slightly crooked and it was an annoying thing to find out after the trip.

Atomium is my classic space contribution to Stijn's Blast from the Past round of the Starfighter Telephone Game, and Simon's Moonbase V collaboration.

I also made a high-speed construction video here on Flickr, and a construction walkthrough with commentary on YouTube at youtu.be/w1UFBmAib9A.

Febrovery starts in a few days. Where are you going to get some wheels from?

Mobile Intergalactic Rocket Command

My entry in the NeoCS event. It's a heavily upsized 6950 Mobile Rocket Transport, as is my style. Build big or stay home seems to be my motto.

The Rocket itself qualifies as a SHIP, measuring 106 studs in length.

Another photo taken during the TOY Safari in Cremona. An homage to Ballou34's Exploration series.

So yesterday I read the sad news that Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the father of the minifig as well as the classic space theme, had passed away.

I decided to build a little tribute to him in the form of a space hangar.

Shots of the whole thing coming later but I wanted to post this first as a little tribute to someone that had such a large influence on so many.

RIP Jens.

Mobile satellite links were extremely useful for relaying the findings of the Federation's various surface discovery vehicles straight to space stations and orbiting space craft. However, when dust and electrical storms made such communication impossible, the Heavy Communications Rover could send and receive messages seismically through a planet's interior. A network of four rovers would be enough to cover the entire surface of most planets, ensuring transfer of information from the planet surface to space without interruption. In the days of Blacktron raids, this tactic allowed the Federation to react speedily to attack.

I had this old dark gray radar dish sitting on the shelf for years and decided I had to make something with it. This was the result. It's not obviously visible on the main edit, but the stacked dishes behind the main cab are meant to be a device to create seismic pulses, and also provide a pivot point between the can and the trailer. Also pleased that I used three trans yellow windscreens I’d never used before - particularly fun to discover that the inverted windscreen can accept two SNOT studs. I also used three different lattice parts in old light gray to tie the build together.

Here are some more views of my Omni Terrain Juggernaut, and the smaller vehicles and mecha that accompany this beast. Enjoy!

Everybody knows that the best way to travel in space is neither by star ship across the galaxy nor by rover across a moon. The best way has always been and will forever remain to travel by monorail. But where did it all begin?

Unsurprisingly, the "creative" types in the notorious Vehicle Design Department of Llwyngwril Space Systems had a hand in the early development of the monorail. They decided that their various designs for rovers and buggies were far too practical and useful. It would be far more interesting for spacemen to travel on fixed narrow, tracks whilst delicate balancing a speeding vehicle.

These archive pictures show the early prototypes being tested. It was powered by two clockwork, "pull-back" motors. Fortunately the astronauts of Classic Space eventually award the contract to a rather more sensible design bureau.

If this video doesn't work here, it is also available on YouTube.

ā€žLIZARDā€œ XVS-10 Light Freighter

Because some of you have asked for detailed pictures of the ship.

The color scheme is inspired by the current City Space theme. The ship is called ā€ž The LIZARDā€œ XVS-10 and is a light freighter.

The LIZARD is the first ship I build for my CS-NextGen Team (Classic Space - The Next Generation).

LEGO Ideas contest entry: ideas.lego.com/challenges/2d3f47a4-66c9-4f41-92ee-87ccc9f...

My submission to an official LEGO contest to showcase music, futurism, and celebrations – thus, this creation encompasses all three. The Moon Rocks are a far-out cosmic rock band with a hypersonic sound totally out of this world!

This is based off a concept I tinkered with in 2015-2016 which featured a fictional LEGO rock band comprised of astronauts, known as The Highway Stars. Only unlike my previous build which depicted the spaceman band traveling in a flying rocket convertible car, this particular new concept features the band performing on a lunar base.

The ground begins with dark grey bricks to give the rocky appearance, which then has a simple structure of light grey to mimic the look of a space station, and uses numerous pipes and tubes for design effect. On the stage you can see the five members, each wearing outfits reminiscent of classic Space minifigures. The audience is a mix of various spacemen from different eras – including M-Tron, Blacktron, Space Police, Uitron, and even a bunch of Mars Mission green aliens. I started working on this in March 2022 and quickly finished the whole project by the beginning of April.

The stage was originally intended to be designed to resemble a giant boombox with cassette player, but instead I utilized the back wall to have a huge JumboTron screen! There weren't many engineering obstacles since the actual base is rather straightforward, but instead the major challenges were obtaining enough 1x1 plates of the proper colors to make the mosaics. The planet earth mosaic was difficult to map out in Photoshop due to my limitations with blue pieces, and I had to use pinks and lavenders instead.

Some of my Galaxy Squad redesigned minifigures

The dual windscreens in 10497 gave me the idea to try to create a classic space version of my favorite Star Wars ship, the U-wing. Overall I am pretty happy with this one. I wasn't sure if I would be able to keep the functions of the U-wing but managed to get the sweeping s-foils and opening troop compartment doors (this with the addition of 2 1L axle/pins and 4 2L axle pins). All other parts come from the set. The part count comes in a little over 900. Revamp of set 6861 X1 Patrol Craft

Another my own construction in the spirit of one of my favourites LEGO factions from childhood - the M: Tron. This time I built a space monorail, fragment of base, some rocky terrain and a mini fuel tank from the Blacktron II fraction.

Happy Christmas from Llwyngwril Systems.

I've had a hectic start to the ski season but will get back to Lego when things calm down in January (unless it snows...)

Second entry to Nerdvember.

Figured I'd combine two of my favourite things coming out of the 80s, classic space and star wars.

Han Solo slaughters a squad of Stormtroopers before enjoying a drink at Space Cantina LL928.

Before the colonisation of the Ice Planet, the Classic Space spacemen experimented with various designs for moving around on snow. The Ski Walker was gyroscopically balanced and carried a crew of two. Each wheel was made of 8 legs, which could be folded out for ease of maintenance.

A bit inspired by set 6952 of course. But bug-ified ^^

Despite their track record, Llwynwgwril Systems Vehicle Design Department were asked to design a 4x4 rover, with the inevitable result. This rover was a unicycle, with a rotating tripod of casters as stabilisers.

Hi

This is fun heavy old-school build from only old (30-40y) bricks (and digital).

I uploaded build instructions on my Rebrickable (links are in my profile).

The planet of Torus 1.5 was famous throughout the galactic disc for this strange structure. It appeared to defy gravity. Visitors came from far and wide to view and study the structure and made of the majority of the planet's economy.

Was the structure the work of a canny entrepreneur with a talent for structural engineering or an ancient alien artefact? Nobody knew...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

This a Lego tensegrity structure, inspired by Steve Mould's short video, over on YouTube. The video reminded me of a structure I built when tensegrity was a short-lived Lego fashion. Technically its predecessor was a series of stacked pendula.

There are more images on Instagram.

Futuron* was a peaceful and friendly population.

Their ground vehicles and spacecrafts were designed to explore new planets and new dimensions indeed.

But something is changing: a black menace is coming from the deep space, its name is Blacktron.

The black men want to attack the Futuron people probably to steal the sought after and valued Monorail.

To prevent the Blacktron attack a new armored vehicle is ready to fire: the "White Tiger".

This medium-class tank features 2 middle-range surface-to-air guns, a rotating turret and a crew of three (the commander, the driver and the gunner).

The nick name is a tribute to the invincible german "White Tiger" from WWII.

Will the "Tiger" be able to destroy the black menace?

Above the "Tiger" at the maintenance bay where Classic Space men are fixing and refueling it before a mission.

On the right close to the door the Futuron crew.

*Futuron was a subtheme of LEGO Space released between 1987 and 1990 to replace Classic Space series.

My first attempt at a spaceship! I had a lot of space sets as a child and I love the Neo Classic Space genre attempting to modernise these sets. My collection probably had more of the grey/trans-green style than the classic blue/trans-yellow, so I figured this was a good place to start. I'll probably modify this MOC in the coming weeks to the blue/trans-yellow scheme for some additional variety!

Eurobricks thread here

I can't be the only one who needed to see the XL-15 done in the classic space livery!

Minor changes were made to include RCS thrusters, nose antenna, and trans yellow cargo cover.

Some wedges and slopes are not available in blue, which, honestly, is just something TLG needs to get done.
