inspired by London and Park Crescent, although I see more of Finsbury Circus here, although the uppermost storeys give it away.
Built in 1909, this Classical Revival-style building was constructed as the post office for the city of Danville, with it utilized as a post office until the 1960s, when a new post office was built elsewhere. The building was then renovated for usage as a federal office building, with the federal offices eventually moving out, and the building has since been adaptively reused as a community arts center. The two-story building features a stone exterior with a hipped roof, a two-story recessed front portico with corinthian columns, decorative carved stone trim elements including pilasters, pediments, panels, and keystones, a balustrade around the base of the roof, a bracketed cornice, large windows with arched transoms at the three center bays, entrances with decorative broken pediments above, a flared stone base, sculptures, murals, and mosaics adorning parts of the grounds and the ramp along the 4th Street facade of the building, and replacement windows. The building is a contributing structure in the Danville Commercial District Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
The added accessories were a mixture of the clients and purchased items to create a classical but updated look.
Sam played classical & Flamenco, and he's top-notch. I even got to sing a little Flamenco with him. Hope to see you again in CO, Sam!
