Built in 1908, this Classical Revival-style courthouse was designed by Richard Sharp Smith and Frank P. Milburn, and stands at the corner of Everett Street and Main Street in Bryson City. It was built to house the county government and courts of Swain County, and is one of several nearly identical courthouses built by the Fall River Construction Company of Louisville, Kentucky in the states of North Carolina and Georgia in the early 20th Century. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and has since been repurposed as a visitor center and the Swain County Heritage Museum.
