Locomotive Services Limited 47 828 makes an unscheduled stop at Lewes, working 1Z83, a Statesman Rail 'Sussex Coast Statesman' charter from Chesterfield to Eastbourne.

I was very grateful for this unscheduled stop as it allowed me to get a half decent photo of the Inter-City 'Swallow' liveried Brush type 4. I had attempted to get a front view of the train as it crawled to a halt in platform 1, but somehow my results were totally out of focus!

A poor quality image which hinted at our day ahead.

On what would prove to be a day of testing weather Mark and I set off to climb Beinn Mhanach. Our route would take us under this extensive viaduct which is tucked under the shoulder of Beinn Domain.

This brush 4 hauled special was a surprise and due to the poor visibility and perhaps my eyesight I wasn't able to identify it. Perhaps someone will be able to identify it from the date.

Later this day the weather turned really fowl and provided us with a real test of navigation and determination.

Trailing the train is the Union Jack 47 47580 as it goes under the Newport Road Bridge at the south end of Stafford station.
