For the record, Black 5 No. 45305, then N2 Class No. 1744, LMS Ivatt Class 2 No. 46521 & in the background, Southern Railways No. 30777 Sir Lamiel.

The Day Gas returning from Thompson Falls towards home base of Missoula. It will be a shame when this eventually someday becomes messed up by BNSF.

IAIS 513 leading SIBI solo across Bridge 407 which crosses over the Des Plaines River in Joliet, Illinois. Lift Bridge, Bridge 407, was built back in 1932 to replace an older trestle bridge that was built back in 1852-1853.

LAUBOZ entering Livingston on the mainline where they will bypass the yard and begin their assault of Bozeman Pass with an ole SD45 vet in charge.

Day Gas heading back to Missoula on the MRL 10th Subdivision as they snake alongside the beautiful Flathead River for a number of miles. Before the Flathead River, the 10th Sub snakes alongside the Clark Fork River from Thompson Falls to Paradise.

There is nothing that beats the views of the state of Montana. I've been there 3x and looking back at this past April's trip has me ready to go back.

IAIS 506 & 708 charging out of the river valley in Joliet as they head East with their train from Silvis for Blue Island. Even though the GP38 was trailing, it was a much-welcome sight as it put on a show at Joliet & New Lenox.

The MRL 841 local departing Livingston Yard for home base in Bozeman. BNSF 681 is seen pulling up in the background with a H-LAUSPO. They would have to wait for helpers to attach before they would attack Bozeman Pass behind the 841.

The Bozeman local heading up Bozeman pass after making their day trip to Livingston to gets cars to and from the yard there. There are a few industries they work in town as well. GP35s still rule the land out here on the Bozeman local.

Somerset and Dorset Railway (Midsomer Norton) 17th and 18th September - the Pines Express Remembered event:

The visit of Ivatt Class2 2-6-2T, 41312 was much anticipated as one of the "Pines Express Remembered" (60th Anniversary) events and two train services consisting of two Mk1 coaches (locals) ran over the weekend. In action was 41312 and Kitson 0-6-0ST 5459 "Austin1" with BR Class 03 0-6-0 shunter, 2022 at the rear of one of the trains. The former was a type based at Bath Green Park for use on local services as well as banking duties although this particular locomotive never actually worked on the S&D. Both steam locomotives carried wreaths on the smokebox door in respect of the recent passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Trains were timetabled to run at mainly 30 minute intervals with 41312 running on the hour and "Austin1" on the half hour. Unfortunately 41312 failed on the Sunday afternoon with a broken spring which resulted in several services being cancelled.

SIBI climbing out of New Lenox on an early Saturday morning across Metra trackage. The trailing GP38-2 put on a show climbing out of Joliet and New Lenox. It was a great sound & sight as they threw up clouds of black smoke! Here is where the former Wabash, now Metra Southwest Service line flies over.

SIBI making an early morning wake up call for the town of Marseilles at 0530 in the morning on a Monday. This was a great chase East and it started here with a nice blue hour past the depot.

The Day Gas making its return to Missoula from Thompson Falls alongside the Flathead River. There is nothing like the views of Montana!

February 2001, Ivatt class 2 46441 is seen at Burrs on the East Lancashire Railway. The locomotive spent a short time in british railways black

LMS Class2 Ivatt 46443 opens up on the climb off Victoria Bridge towards Arley Station.

SVR bought 46443 in 1972, but announced in 1983 that the locomotive had been sold as part of the deal that would have brought 45690 Leander to the SVR, and would be leaving the following year. However in 1984 a fund was launched to ‘buy back’ the locomotive, during which time it gained the nickname ‘The Peoples Engine’, and 46443 never left the SVR. Unfortunately 46443 is now a on static display in the Engine House at Highley.

SIBI making its way through Seneca in some of the very first sunrays of the day. Getting the Iowa out on the CSX in daylight is always a treat especially in Marseilles and Seneca.

A taste of summer for 46441 as she takes the 'Furness Flyer' of 21 August 1994, along the Cumbrian Coast route on her way to Barrow-in-Furness.

She was originally allocated to the famous Lancaster Green Ayre shed and is now owned by Chris Beet.

I believe she is due to operate trains on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway this year.

Running a little later than usual on a cool September evening, the Lake State's Y119 turn races south among soybean fields between Birch Run and Clio. With a long, heavy train this evening, this four-pack of six-axle units are working hard on the undulating terrain of central Michigan.

A pair of SD38's roar in notch 8 pulling PESI-08 towards Silvis into the sunset. This is along the old Rock Island and is a shell of its former self, but the Iowa Interstate has done well and keeps it well maintained. 152,153,702.

In former 'Steam Days' banking engines were deployed at Tebay shed to assist freight trains, especially, climb the steep, long and winding gradient to Shap Summit in Cumbria on the West Coast Main Line.

Could this early morning freight train on 8th March 2020, making the steep ascent from Haworth towards Oxenhope during the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway's 2020 Spring Gala, evoke those great memories? Perhaps.

Leading is BR Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78022 and banking is LMSR Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45212.

Iowa Interstate 719 brings the eastbound Des Moines Switcher past the 1901-built Rock Island Depot in Downtown Des Moines, IA.

The IAIS operates the former Rock Island mainline across Iowa, so it's only fitting they still roll past the old CRIP depot here. While the last train to call on the station was cancelled in 1970, the building itself has been nicely adapted to modern uses. This building now houses offices, and the adjacent freight house across the street now houses the excellent Hessen Haus German restaurant (and the Tipsy Crow Tavern as well).
